2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview July and August 218 Heatwave conditions in July and August led to an increase in demand compared to the same period of 217. The sunshine has led to record solar production. Corrected for climate factors, electricity demand was slightly up (+.5%) compared to July 217 and stable in August. Hydraulic generation rose sharply by more than 24% compared to July and august 217. Remarkable sunshine allowed a new monthly solar production record of more than 1.4 TWh to be achieved in July 218. During the heatwave period from 23 July to 8 August, the increase in electricity demand was 5.2% compared to the same period of 217. Market prices were high throughout Europe during the summer. The French price, which averages 51.4/MWh in July and 58.4/MWh in August, remains lower than those of neighbouring countries (Germany and Switzerland excepted). The French balance of trade remains in favour of exports during July and August installations went into service in July and August 218. Monthly Overview - July and August 218 2

3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview July and August 218 DEMAND Summer weather conditions saw a heatwave, with average temperatures higher than normal by 2 C in July and 1.3 C in August. Gross demand amounted to 34,578 in July and 32,361 in August, namely an increase of 2.2% in July and 1% in August compared with the summer of 217. Corrected for climate factors, electricity demand was up by.5% compared to July 217 and stable in August. GENERATION Hydraulic generation increased by 24.1% and renewable generation excluding hydraulic increased by 2.9% compared to July and August 217. Non-renewable thermal generation increased slightly (.8%). WIND AND SOLAR Solar generation, up sharply by 27.9%, reached a new record level of 1,438 in July and reached 1,32 in August, due to excellent sunshine conditions. Wind generation fell (-15.2%) due to low wind levels compared to 217. TERRITORIES AND REGIONS Regional demand during the heatwave period, between 23 July and 8 August, increased compared to the same period of 217, except in the Normandie and Sud regions, where it was stable. This increase is particularly significant in the Occitanie region, where it exceeds 11%, as well as for Ile de France, Centre, Nouvelle Aquitaine, Auvergne Rhône Alpes and Grand Est, where it exceeds 5%. ELECTRICITY MARKETS Prices rose sharply in Europe during the summer, up nearly 2% between June and August. This increase is due, in particular, to heatwave temperatures on the continent, leading to an increase in demand, as well as reduced nuclear generation and limited wind generation. Fuel and CO2 prices increased as well. INTERNATIONAL TRADE The balance remained in favour of exports across all borders in July, except to Switzerland. It reached a maximum value of more than 15 GW on 17 July. In August, the export balance of trade was 4,142 with 6,157 of exports and 2,15 of imports. NEW INSTALLATIONS The installations commissioned in July and August 218 have, in particular, the objectives of strengthening the electricity supply to several zones Toulouse, Perpignan, Haute Durance, the coastal zone between Marseille and Toulon, central Alsace the partial renewal of conductors, the rehabilitation of connections, the creation of a new supply to industrial customers, the connection of a 63/2 kv substation and the connection of renewable generation. Over this period, regional demand increased in all metropolitan regions except Normandie and the Sud region, where it was stable. The regions where the increase was most significant were Occitanie (+11.2%), Ile de France (+8.3%), Centre (+7.6%), Nouvelle Aquitaine (+7.2%), Auvergne Rhône Alpes (+5.9%) and Grand Est (+5.4%). A monthly solar production record in July 218 Solar energy generated in July 218 reached 1,438, a monthly record. The sunshine in July, with a load factor of 23.7%, as well as the increase in installations, of 1,145 MW over one year, enabled production to increase by more than 32% compared to July Monthly Overview - July and August

France is always represented in white, the other areas are coloured based on the difference in price compared with France (blue: lower price, red: higher price, the deeper the colour, the greater the difference). Glossary Spot price: Wholesale price of electricity, determined by the power exchanges the day before for delivery the following day, for each hour of the day. Spread : Price differential between two price areas (here between each price area and France). Price area: Geographic area inside which the electricity price is identical and where exchanges are done with no allocation of capacity. A price area may combine several countries (for example: Germany, Austria, Luxembourg) and a country may be subdivided into more than one price area (for example: Italy, Norway). International exchanges Daily extrema : Extrema of the half hour mean power value of the global international commercial exchanges, observed daily.
