2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview uary 216 Thanks to good weather conditions, two new records were achieved in uary: that of the highest monthly level of wind generation and the highest monthly level of RE generation. This month was warmer by 1.1 C compared to uary 215 and so gross demand fell by 4.6% compared with uary 215. Corrected for vagaries of the climate, demand continued to grow by.5%. Demand by industrial sites connected to the public transmission network record a slight increase of.4%. RE generation excluding hydraulic was up and this month broke a new record with monthly average power of 5176 MW. Wind power generation reached a new record with monthly average power of 3792 MW, i.e. 23% greater than in uary 215. The recent connections of wind and solar farms are contributing to the regional development goals of 22, with a contrasting picture depending on the regions. French prices were lower in uary, apart from the third week where sustained consumption explains higher prices. There was a monthly export balance. The instantaneous export balance reached a new record on 31 uary with 15.8 GW of power, i.e..2 GW more than the previous record set on 13 y 215. Five installations were carried out in uary. Monthly Overview - uary 216 2
3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview uary 216 DEMAND Temperatures in uary 216 were up by 1.1 C compared to last year, which resulted in a slight fall in gross demand compared to uary 215 (-4,6%). Demand from the industrial sector showed a slight increase of +.4%. Corrected for vagaries of the climate, demand from PMI/SMEs and professional and private customers continued to growth by +.6%. GENERATION RE generation excluding hydraulic attained a new historic record with average monthly power of 5176 MW, strongly buoyed by wind generation. Lower demand led to moderated use of thermal production of fossil origin, whose level was slightly lower than in uary 215. The hydraulic sector grew by 56% compared to the last two months of 215. For the third consecutive month, nuclear generation was slightly down. WIND AND SOLAR For the third consecutive month, monthly wind generation exceeded average monthly power of 33 MW. A new record was reached with monthly average power of 3792 MW, thanks to the growth of the installed base and highly favourable wind conditions generating an average load factor of 37%. This monthly production was sufficient to cover over 5% of national demand for the second month in a row. TERRITORIES AND REGIONS This overview looks at the regional objectives for the development of wind and solar energy by 22. The Nord-Pas-de- De-Calais Picardie region has thus already reached 56% of its 22 wind objective and plans even to exceed it (18%) with the projects in preparation. The regions of Aquitaine Limousin Poitou-Charentes and Languedoc-Roussillon Midi- Pyrénées have crossed the 4% threshold for completion of the regional solar objectives. ELECTRICITY MARKETS Changes in market prices were mixed depending on the countries in uary. Although they were lower in France, Belgium and the Netherlands, conversely, they were higher in Germany due to wind generation that was lower than the previous month. INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES In uary, France reached its highest level of instantaneous export on 31 uary, with more than 15.8 GW. Moreover, the instantaneous balance switched to imports on two occasions, on 2 and 21 uary. The import balance with the CWE was the highest since implementation of the coupling. The export balance with Spain reached its lowest level for ten months. Exports to Italy remained greater than 2, for the third consecutive month. NEW WORKS 5 installations were commissioned in uary 216, particularly in the south-west with a 4 kv shunt capacitor of 15 MVAr as part of work for securing the electricity grid near Toulouse, as well as a 225 kv series reactance of 8 ohms and 225 kv overhead/underground line (15 km) to strengthen the electricity supply to the Bordeaux conurbation. Also of note is the commissioning of a 63 kv underground cable near Apt (17 km) to improve the electricity supply to the town. Monthly Overview - uary 216 3

These plans, according to the old regional demarcations, will be integrated by 219 to new plans created in accordance with the territorial reform(*). This should allow improved coherence between national targets and the total of the regional ambitions. While awaiting for the targets to be adapted to the new areas, the graphs show the SRCAE targets aggregated to the new scopes with the connected loads and those awaiting connection (FA). For example, the aggregated wind target for the new Aquitaine Limousin Poitou-Charentes Region was reached at 44% whereas the ex-poitou- Charentes region reached its wind target of 67%. Spread : Price differential between two price areas (here between each price area and France). Price area: Geographic area inside which the electricity price is identical and where exchanges are done with no allocation of capacity. A price area may combine several countries (for example: Germany, Austria, Luxembourg) and a country may be subdivided into more than one price area (for example: Italy, Norway). Daily spot price changes Change of the spot price in France and in the coupled neighbouring regions, over a month in daily average, (NB: for Italy the price of the northern area is shown, for Nordic countries the average of the areas displayed on the map is shown).
