2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview ober 215 ober saw an increase in demand as a result of temperatures that were well below seasonal averages. To meet this demand thermal production was required, as weather conditions were not very favourable to renewable energy generation. European solidarity was also called upon. French demand increased under the combined effect of the continued recovery in demand by heavy industry and SMIs/SMEs, professionals and individuals. Nuclear capacity represented 78 % of the French electric mix in ober. The 1 GW threshold of installed capacity of the wind park was achieved. Renewable energy generation, however, was relatively low, due to the fact that there was very little wind during the month and the seasonal drop in photovoltaic generation. In the Champagne-Ardenne and Picardy regions, the rate of coverage of demand by the wind and photovoltaic sectors exceeded 2%. Seasonally very cold weather drove demand for electricity in France, which led to an increase in market price. For the first time in 6 months, France showed an import balance, caused by the cold spell in the middle of the month. 34 installations were completed in tember. Monthly Overview - ober 215 2

3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview ober 215 CONSUMPTION Temperatures in ober 215 were on average 3 C lower than in 214. There was, in particular, a difference of - 6 C compared with the mid-month norm. Consequently, demand for ober 215 was 8% higher than in the previous year and the monthly peak was the highest for ober since 212. One year after the upturn in demand in heavy industry, the recovery is still in place. Demand by SMIs/SMEs, professionals and individuals continued to climb for the fifth consecutive month. GENERATION In response to the increase in demand, nuclear and fossil-fired thermal generation rose in ober. Nuclear generation reached its highest level in 6 months. Hydraulic generation, which has risen slightly over the last 3 months, remained below its levels in y 215. As for generation from renewable sources, it was at its lowest level for 11 months. WIND AND PV The wind installed capacity exceeded 1 GW. However, after a month marked by strong wind generation, this month's generation was relatively low, due to weather conditions being unfavourable. Photovoltaic generation continued its seasonal fall, settling at a level slightly higher than in ober 214, in particular thanks to its park of over 6 GW. TERRITORIES AND REGIONS This overview deals with the development of the wind and photovoltaic sectors in the regions. The wind installed capacity in Champagne-Ardenne exceeded 1,79 MW and the photovoltaic park in Aquitaine reached 1,14 MW. ELECTRICITY MARKETS Seasonally very cold weather drove demand for electricity in France, which led to an increase in market price. Belgium again recorded exceptionally high prices from Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 ober, reaching /MWh for certainly hourly periods. For 216, RTE is launching a consultation with extraction sites for the contractualisation of demand response capacities. INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES For the first time in 7 months, the monthly balance fell below 5 TWh. The balance changed to an import balance in the morning of 16 ober, during the cold spell in the middle of the month. The balance with the CWE zone was reversed compared with last year. Balances with the UK and Italy fell compared with ober 214, but they nevertheless remained a significant export balance. The exchange balance with Spain remained an export balance for the seventh consecutive month and the balance with Switzerland jumped more than 15% compared with last year. NEW INSTALLATIONS 34 installations were completed in ober, including: 1 x 225/9 kv transformer, 2 overhead cables and 9 underground cables as part of the enhancement of the 63 kv network, as well as 5 partial renewals of conductors to improve network safety. Three client stations were also commissioned to secure the electricity supply for certain conurbations and railway development in the South-West. Monthly Overview - ober 215 3

7 Aperçu mensuel sur l'énergie électrique tembre 215 Distribution of regional generation Distribution of regional consumption Development of Renewable Energies The development of wind power continued apace over 215 for the six regions that, as early as uary, had wind parks greater than 6 MW. In particular the Champagne-Ardenne and Picardy regions saw increases in installed capacity of 7 % and 11 % respectively. Similarly, on 1 st uary 215 six regions had an installed photovoltaic capacity in excess of 3 MW. The Aquitaine and PACA regions continued to develop their parks with an increase in installed power of 18.5 % and 14 %. On 31 ober 215, the combined power of the wind and photovoltaic parks was greater than 16, MW. For the Champagne-Ardenne and Picardy regions, this rate was in excess of 2 %. The rates of coverage of regional demand by the wind sector remained higher than those of the photovoltaic sector - on the one hand due to a greater installed capacity, and on the other hand due to higher charge rates for wind power, as the latter is able to generate energy for a longer time. * The highest regional coverage rates among those of the 12 regions highlighted for their wind or photovoltaic park.
