1 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview

2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview Electricity demand totalled 47.6 TWh (+3.7 TWh compared to the previous month) due in particular to average temperatures that were 1.5 C lower than the previous month. In addition, December was particularly windy. A fall in gross domestic demand (8.1%, -4.2 TWh) compared to December 218 and an increase compared to the previous month (8.6%, +3.8 TWh) An increase in nuclear generation compared to December 217 (+4%, 1.5 TWh) and an increase compared to the previous month(+19.1%, +6.2 TWh) A fall in thermal fossil fuel generation compared to December 217 (-25.1%, -1.5 TWh)andafallcomparedtothepreviousmonth(-19.8%,-1.1TWh) An increase in wind power generation compared to December 217 (+6.5%, +.2 TWh), and compared to the previous month(+29.2%, +.8 TWh) An increase in solar production compared to December 217 (+17%, + 5 ) A fall in solar generation compared to the previous month (+19.1%,-134 ) The regional wind load factor exceeded 3% in the north east regions of France. French prices moved back with the end of the year holidays. It totalled 54.9/MWh on average, down almost 13/MWh compared to November. The French balance of trade remained in favour of exports(5,7 ). 33 new installations went into service in. Monthly Overview - 2

3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview DEMAND Gross domestic demand totalled 47.6 TWh, down compared to December 217 (-8.1%, -4.2 TWh), this being related in particular to a warmer average temperature (+1.8 C). Corrected for climate factors, electricity demand was slightly higher (+.2%). Gross domestic demand increased compared to the previous month, due in particular to a fall in the average temperature of 1.5 C. GENERATION Nuclear generation totalled 38.9 TWh, up by 4% compared to December 217. It increased from +6.2 TWh compared to the previous month. Hydraulic generation totalled 5.2 TWh, down compared to the generation of December 217, but up compared to the previous month (+1.2 TWh). Fossil-fuel thermal generation totalled 4.56 TWh, down compared to December 217 (-1.53 TWh) and also down compared to the previous month (-1.13 TWh). Greater nuclear generation, marked wind power generation and the use of hydraulic reserves explains this general overall downward trend in 218. WIND AND SOLAR Wind generation was up compared to December 217 (+.22 TWh) and markedly higher compared to last month (+.81 TWh). December was characterised by the strongest winds of the year, close to those observed in January. Strong generation at the beginning of the month resulted in this increase in generation (8 and 9 December were marked by gusts of wind over the whole country). It should be noted that generation was also strong in Europe, especially in Germany which attained record generation. TERRITORIES AND REGIONS The consequence of the strong winds in December, the average regional wind load factors were between 24% in Provence-Alpes- Côte d'azur and 35% in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. They also exceeded 3% in the Grand-Est, Normandie, Hauts-de-France, the Pays-de-la-Loire and Centre-Val-de-Loire regions. The average regional wind coverage fraction reached almost 2% in the Grand-Est and Hauts-de France regions. ELECTRICITY MARKETS European prices fell back, in particular in Belgium and in France where the price peaks in November were the strongest. French and German wind generation were abundant over the month, which contributed to the fall in prices. In Germany, the price became negative in 21 hourly periods. TRANSBORDER EXCHANGES The export balance totalled 5,7. France exported more than the previous month. Exports to Spain were greater than the previous month (+.7 TWh), as for Great Britain (+,3 TWh), Italy (+.7 TWh) and Switzerland (+.7 TWh). However France was a net importer from the CWE area. This is related in particular to strong power generation of wind origin in Germany. NEW INSTALLATIONS Among the installation that were put into service, we can mention those related to high voltage constraints (SOISSONS- SAINT-PAUL), the rehabilitation of a line (BAGATELLE - CASTELNAUDARY - BRAM - VALGROS), a terrestrial wind connection (GARRIGOU - MONTAHUT), and the installation of lines to host potential renewable energies in the Occitanie region. In addition, the connection of a 4kV sub-station went into service in December at Bois-de-Serves (AIN). Monthly Overview - 3

This revision completes the process of compliance of the mechanism with the European Commission s decision of 8 November 216 relating to State aid. Explicitly considering cross-border capacity and a long-term call for tenders for new capacity are the main changes. The new rules also provide for a simplification of the mechanism on the obligation, certification and operation of the market parts. France is always represented in white, the other areas are coloured based on the difference in price compared with France (blue: lower price, red: higher price, the deeper the colour, the greater the difference). Glossary Spot price: Wholesale price of electricity, determined by the power exchanges the day before fordelivery thefollowing day, foreach houroftheday. Spread : Price differential between two price areas (here between each price area and France). Price area: Geographic area inside which the electricity price is identical and where exchanges are done with no allocation of capacity. A price area may combine several countries (for example: Germany, Austria, Luxembourg) and a country may be subdivided into more than one price area (for example: Italy, Norway). Daily spot price changes Changeofthespot pricein Franceand in thecoupled neighbouring regions, over a month in daily average, (NB: for Italy the price of the northern area is shown, for Nordic countries the average of the areas displayed on the map is shown). Type of installation Name of installation (or substation) Département Nature of work Why can the data displayed in real time be different from that published in the Monthly Overview? The data published by RTE changes several times before becoming final. It is, in fact, refined according to the information that RTE receives at several moments: 1-Atthetimeofreal-time publication, thedataistaken from telemetry carried outcontinuously byrte.it isthisdatathatcan beviewed inéco2mix and communicated during peak demand. 2- In the following month, this data is consolidated, i.e. refined using metering data from the various electricity distribution networks. This consolidated data is published in the Monthly Overview and updated in éco2mix. 3- During the first half of the following year, it becomes final by being refined with the latest metering data from the distribution networks.
