1 ch 214

2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview ch 214 ch marked the end of one of the mildest winters for electricity consumption since the winter of The demand trend for SMIs / SMEs has moved from growth to stagnation, whilst the demand from heavy industry is higher than the first quarter of 214. Hydro power remains high, whilst fuel based thermal power suffers particularly from lack of demand due to rather low demand during the quarter. Benefiting from growth due to very favourable sunshine conditions for a month of ch, photovoltaic generation reached a level close to that of the best month in 212. Moderate national demand and good levels of production from renewableenergy sectors enabled France to maintain a high export balance. The export balance with Italy is the highest since ch 29. However, import balances remain in place with Germany and Spain. Four installations entered service in ch 214, with, in particular, three to strengthen the network and one to improve safety of operation of high voltage. Monthly Overview ch 214 2

3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview ch 214 CONSUMPTION For the third month in a row, the average monthly temperature is much higher than that observed during the same period in 213 (up by 3.1 C). Accordingly, gross demand is strongly down with respect to ch 213, with weather conditions enabling a demand saving of 1.7 TWh with respect to the reference conditions. Winter has ended, and it is possible to observe that peak demand for the period was reached in ember with 84.9 GW, the lowest winter peak observed since the winter of Growth in demand from SMIs / SMEs and the private sector has experienced a continuous slowing down for almost one year, reaching a stagnation point during the month. Conversely, demand from heavy industry is up for the first quarter, borne along, in particular, by the chemical sector. That contrary trend is not enough to fully compensate the first phenomenon, with national demand showing a downward trend. GENERATION At 35.8 TWh, nuclear generation is down by almost 1 TWh with respect to ch 213, being at its lowest level for a month of ch since 26. Monthly hydro generation is above 7 TWh for the third consecutive month. Generation by renewable sectors except hydro power is the lowest for the last six months, due to falling wind power generation. Fossil fuel fired thermal generation is, during this month, strongly down once more with respect to 213 due to low demand. However, it is benefiting from the fall in wind power generation to reach a level higher than that of ruary. WIND & PV After several months of strong generation, the wind power sector has reached a load factor close to the average values observed over the last few years. On the other hand, the photovoltaic sector has benefited from particularly favourable sunshine conditions for a month of ch. The level of generation is high to those of and tember 213, and is close to the monthly record for 212. INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES France has a high export balance, more than twice as high as that of ch 213, which was at a particularly low level. There is an overall import balance every day during ch, but a spot import balance was noted on four days. Exchanges with Germany showed an import balance, as for the previous six months; it has remained stable with respect to the previous month due to sustained photovoltaic generation and more moderate periods of wind power generation. Exchanges with Spain show an import balance, though it is down with respect to ch 213, due to fluctuating wind power generation. The export balance of exchanges with England is down with respect to the previous two months, but it remains almost twice as high as in ch 213. The export balance of exchanges with Italy is high, with a higher level having been noted in ch 29. NEW INSTALLATIONS Four installations entered service in ch. Three installations were to strengthen the network with, in particular, a 225 kv underground cable in the Rhône département following refurbishment of a station, a 9 kv overhead line in Seine itime département following a client station being brought into service, and a 63 kv overhead underground line following partial renewal of conductors in Les Yvelines département. A reactance entered service at the Argœuves 4 kv station to ensure safety of operation of high voltages in the area.
