2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview ober 214 Interconnections were particularly called upon during ober, for imports and exports alike. High temperatures led to relatively moderate demand for a month of ober. After a fall over several years, demand from large-scale industry appears to finally be stabilising. For the first time since ch, thermal fossil-fuel generation overtook renewable-energy generation (except for hydro power). On 22 ober at 16: hours, a record for spot wind-power generation was beaten, with a peak of 6,994 MW. The export balance with Italy was at its highest recorded level: 2,2. On the other hand, the import balance with Germany was at its highest recorded level since ch 213. Twenty network installations were put into service in ober 214, with, in particular, three new installations being brought into service. Monthly Overview - ober 214 2

3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview ober 214 CONSUMPTION The temperature observed in ober 214 was particularly mild (14.9 C), slightly above the value for ober 213 (14.5 C), and 2. C above the reference temperature. The gross average monthly demand for ober 214 was slightly lower than for ober 213. The fall in demand relating to the mild temperatures at the start of the winter period is estimated at about 1,2. Demand from SMIs / SMEs and residential remains slightly down. Conversely, demand from large-scale industry has continued to rise since ember 213, driven by the chemical, metallurgy, and steel-making sectors. GENERATION The nuclear sector provided over 79% of the electricity generated in ober 214. For the second consecutive month, monthly hydro-electricity generation was under 4,, due to sub-normal rainfall in the mountainous regions of the Alps and the Pyrenees. Thermal fossil-fuel generation is above renewable-energy generation (except hydro power) for the first time since ch 214. However, it remains almost 25% below the monthly level of ober 213. WIND AND PV Monthly wind power generation was above 1, for the first time since 214. It reached a peak value of 6,994 MW on 21 ober at 16: hours, the highest level ever recorded in France. Good sun conditions combined with the increase in the installed generation base enabled the photovoltaic sector to reach a monthly generation level in ober 214 that was almost 5% higher than in ober 213. INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES The overall volume of monthly imports into France was the highest since the start of 214. However, the balance remained largely on the export side for the month and for each day in ober. Nonetheless, the instantaneous balance became an import one for a few hours on Thursday 23 ober, something that had not been seen since il 214. The export balance with Italy reached its highest ever recorded level, going over 2, for the first time. The export balance of exchanges with Belgium was almost twice as high as in ober 213, given the unavailability of two thirds of the country s nuclear power plants, whilst the balance of exchanges with Great Britain remained largely high for a month of ober, due to nuclear units being unavailable. The balance of exchanges with Germany became an import balance for the second time in five months, and reached its highest import level since ch 213, as a result of good wind conditions. NETWORK DEVELOPMENT Twenty-two new installations were brought into service in ober with, in particular, three new installations being brought into service to strengthen the security of electricity supply: one for 4 kv, with the two 4-kV Domloup-Oudon and Oudon- Taute overhead lines, following the tapping of the Oudon substation in connection with the Cotentin-Maine project; one of 225 kv, with the bringing into service of a transformer-dephaser at the Bacalan 225-kV substation, to meet the transit constraints of the Bordeaux agglomeration; one of 63 kv, with an underground cable to strengthen the security of supply in the Landes. There are also eight open work sites for renewing conductors, two client substations were brought into service, two substation reconstructions brought into service, and finally the bringing into service of two shunt reactances and three shunt capacitor banks to improve voltage-stability management.
