3 w a b o Introution VS II General information This publiation is meant for ommerial vehile workshop personnel with knowlege of automotive eletronis. It provies assistane in the installation an ommissioning of a VS II trailer AS system. Further etaile information about this system an also be foun in the publiation "VS II system esription" uner the WAO number VS II is a vehile safety system. Installation, retrofitting, repairs an moifiation of the system settings may only be performe by traine an qualifie speialist personnel. WAO offers the training require for installation an ommissioning of the VS II system both iretly on-site at our premises an on the Internet at efore you perform any work on the vehile (installation, repairs, parts replaement, iagnosis, et.) you must ensure the following: Always follow the speifiations an instrutions of the vehile manufaturer. Always omply with the ompany an national aient prevention/health an safety regulations. Wear suitable protetive lothing as the situation requires. The workplae has to be ry an suffiiently lit an ventilate. The gearbox of the towing vehile, if present, must be in the "neutral" position an the han brake must be ativate. Seure the vehile against rolling away using brake weges. Attah a learly marke note on the steering wheel of the towing vehile, stating that work is being performe on the vehile an that the brake must not be applie. 1.2 Diagnosis an ommissioning of the VS II The iagnosis is arrie out using a P or notebook onnete to the vehile eletronis. WAO iagnosti software must be installe on the notebook. You an fin out the urrent status on the Internet ( via the "Downloa" menu. All available language versions of the WAO iagnosti programme are shown on the iagnosti software subsription pages. The iagnosti memory an urrent measuring ata an be obtaine through the iagnosti programme. Errors are esribe when malfuntions our. ommissioning of the VS II system is also performe via this iagnosti programme. The programme guies users through the menu. After suessful ommissioning, the AS system is reay for operation. Note: The onnetion between the iagnosti onnetion soket (with blue protetion over) on the trailer an the iagnosti P requires a iagnosti interfae allowing for use of both the serial interfae an the US version. VS II allows for straightforwar fault iniation in the towing vehile via a warning lamp on the instrument panel an, if present, via a green warning lamp on the exterior of the towing vehile. The system is available in 2S/2M, 4S/2M an 4S/3M onfigurations with integrate or separate EU. 4 2 VS II System proposals 2.1 Sensor alloation AS onfigurations for semitrailer vehiles, entral-axletrailers an rawbar trailers Lifting axles 2S/2M system: Lifting axles are not allowe to have sensors fitte All other systems: Lifting axles may be fitte with AS sensors e an f. Steering axles Fore steering axles an be treate like beam axles. WAO presribes AS onfigurations 4S/3M or 2S/2M+SLV for vehiles with self-steering axles. If 2S/2M or 4S/2M AS systems are to be use in vehiles with self-steering axles, tests performe uring the type test must establish that there are no abnormal axle vibrations or ourse eviations. It is not possible to investigate all axles on the market to hek how they respon when AS is triggere. * These types of vehile (see p. 6 an p. 7) are not liste in the "Type approval report no. 25 Installation instrutions VS II 5 5 Installation of the Vario ompat AS 2n generation 5.1 General information The Vario ompat AS 2n generation (VS II) is simple to install. Only a few han movements are neee to ativate the system. The VS II version (Premium version) an be onfigure to up to maximum 4S/3M. The onition as elivere is 2S/2M, higher onfigurations (4S/2M or 4S/3M) are reognise automatially. The VS II version (Stanar version) is onfigure to 2S/2M an annot be moifie. The VS II version (separate eletroni ontrol unit) an be onfigure to up to maximum 4S/3M. The onition as elivere is 2S/2M, higher onfigurations (4S/2M or 4S/3M) are reognise automatially. 5.2 Installation of the Premium version 1. Attah the system to the vehile The eletronis/valve unit, onsisting of the eletroni ontrol unit an the oxer relay valve, shoul be installe near the entral axle of semitrailers. For trailers, this unit may be optionally mounte in a position lose to the rear or front axle. In any ase, the able lengths leaing to the brake yliners shoul be as short as possible. The evie is srewe on via both flanges, right/left, of the oxer relay valve. Use M8 srews with appropriate washers. The evie must be installe in suh a way that the exhaust faes ownwar. 2. onnet the pneumati line of the AS relay valve(s) Attah the eletronis/valve unit: Supply port 1 (M 26x1.5) ontrol port 4 (M 16x1.5) Up to six isharge ports 2 (three 2.1 an 2.2 for eah sie of vehile, M 16x1.5) For a 4S/3M onfiguration, attah the external relay valve: Supply port 1 (M 22x1.5) ontrol port 4 (M 16x1.5) Two isharge ports 2 (M 22x1.5) 3. Eletrial abling For the eletrial abling, please use the iruit iagram (4S/3M) or (4S/2M). 3a. 2S/2M onfiguration onnet the iagnosti able (where appropriate, or ) with the moulator onnetor MOD RD (X6) 3b onnet the sensor extension ables with onnetors U1 an YE1. Start the P iagnosti programme onnet the iagnosti P using the iagnosti interfae an the iagnosti able Ativate the ommissioning sequene Start the iagnosti software, press the ommissioning button an follow the instrutions.
