2 DIRECTIONAL GROUND TYPE CFPClGA P The Type CFPClGA relay an be used as an instantaneous overurrent r slay or as a urrent polarized diretional ground relay. This is made possible by having two separate urrent iruits whih an either be left separate for diretional relays or onneted in series for a overurrent relayṫwo of these relays may be used together to produe a diretional ontrolled overurrent relay ombination by having the diretional unit ontats ontrol the floating iruit of the overurrent unit. CONTACTS RATINGS The urrent-losing rating of the ontats is 30 amperes for voltages not exeeding 250 volts. The urrent-arrying ratings are limited by the two different ratings of target and holding oils as listed in the following table: Target and Holding Coil e (o.125a% ) (%z) T=W~ing D ~Y 30 Carry Continuously 2.5 i.5 TARGET AND SEAL-IN COILS The 0.2 amperes oil is for use with trip oils that operate on urrents ranging from 0.2 up to 1 ampere at the minimum ontrol voltage. If this oil is used with trip oils that take 1 ampere or more there is a possibility that the 7 ohms resistane wilf reduethe urrent to so low a &that the breaker will not be tripped. This oil an safely arry urrents as high as 5 amperes. The 1 ampere oil should be used with trip oils that take 1 ampere or more at the minimum ontrol voltage, provided the urrent does not exeed 30 amperes at the maximum ontrol voltage. If the urrent exeeds 30 amperes, a auxiliary relay must be used to ontrol the trip oil iruit, the onnetions being suh that the urrent does not pass through the ontats or the target and holding oil of the protetive relay. When it is desirable to adopt one type of relay as standard to be used anywhereon a system, relays with the 1 ampere oil should be hosen. These relays should also be used when it is impossible to obtain trip oil data, but attention is alled to the fat that the target ma not operate if used with trip oils taking less than P ampere. Immediately up reeipt of the relay, a examination should be made for any damage sustained during shipment. If injury or damage resulting from rough handling is evident, a laim should be filed at one with the transportation ompany and the nearest Sales Offie of the General Eletri Company notified promptly. Reasonable are should be exerised in unpaking the relay in order that one of the parts are injured or the adjustments disturbed. If the relays are not tobe installed immediately, they should be stored in their original artons in a plae that is free from moisture, dust, and metalli hips. Foreign matter olleted on the outside of the ase may find its way inside when the over is removed and ause trouble in the operation of the relay. 3 .~ GEH-2023 Mretional Ground Relay Type CFPClBA DESCRIPTION DIRECTIONAL UNIT This unit is an indution ylinder devie for alternating urrent iruits. The priniple bywhih torque is developed is the same as that employed in an indution disk relay with a watthour meter element, through an arrangement of parts, it is more like a split phase indution motor. The stator has eight laminated magneti poles projeting inward and arranged symmetrially around a entral magneti ore. In the annular air gap between the poles and entral ore is the ylindrial part of the up-like aluminum rotor, whih turns freely in the gap. The entral ore is fixed to the stator frame; the rotor alone turns. This onstrution provides higher torque and lower rotor inertia than the indution disk onstrution, sensitive. making these relays faster and more CONTACTS The ontats are espeially onstruted to suppress bouning. The stationaryontat(g, Fig.1) is mounted on a flat spiral spring (F) baked up by a thin diaphragm (C). These are both mounted in a slightly inlined tube (A). A stainless steel ball (B) is plaed in the tube before the diaphragm is assembled. When the movtng ontat hits the stationary ontat, the energy of the former is imparted to the latter and thene to the ball, whih is free to poll up the inlined tube. Thus, the moving ontat omes to rest with substantially no rebound or vibration. All eight poles have urrent windings. There are two groups of four oils onneted in series. The four orner oils have an additional winding whih onsists of many turns of fine wtre. A apaitor is onneted aross these fours oils in series to produe a phase shift in the flus so as to produe torque. This flmttng iruit is brought out to two studs so that the relay an be ontrolled by another devie if desired. Whenusedasa diretional relay, maximum torque is obtained when the urrent in studs 5-6 leads the urrent in studs 7-8 by approximately twenty degrees. Fig. I Stationary Contat Assesbly LOCATION The 1oatSon should be lean and dry, free from dust and exessive vibration, and well lighted to failitate inspetion and testing. MOUNTING The relay should be mounted on a vertial surfae. The outline and panel mounting diagram is shown in Fig. 2. *CAUTION: Every iruit in the drawout ase has an auxiliary brush, this is the short one in the ase (not on the radle) whih the onnetion plug or test plug should engage first. On every urrent iruit or other iruit with a shorting bar, make sure these auxiliary brushes are bent high enough to engage the onnetion plug or test plug before the main brushes in the ase do, as otherwise the CT seondary iruit may be opened (where one brush The relays are adjusted at the fatory and it is advisable not to disturb the adjustments. If, for any reason, tbey have been disturbed, the following points should be followed in restoring them. 4 Denotes hange sine superseded issue. Typial external wiring diagrams are shown in Figs. 4 and 5. When using the relay with external ontrol, remove the jumper from studs 3-4 andonnettbese studs aross the ontats of the ontrolling devie. Thus when the ontats of the ontrolling devie lose, the floating iruit is now losed and torque is developed. One of the mounting studs or srews should be permanently grounded by a ondutor not less than No. 12 B&S gags opper wire or its equivalent. PICK-UP The pik-up urrent is adjustable over a range whih depends on the relay rating. Adjustment is

To hange the level of pik-up urrent, loosen the hexagonal-head loking srew loated toward the rear of the adjusting ring guide at the top of the relay. Moving the adjusting ring lok&se (as viewed from the top) dereases the spring restraining torque, and hene lowers the pik-up urrent. When the desired pik-up is obtained, the loking srew should be tightened. If a test of the pik-up time is desired, it is neessary to use an osillograph or an eletroni timer beause the speed of the relay is suh that a mehanial timer is unsatisfatory. The timeurrent harateristis are shown in Fig. 7. CONTACTS To adjust the wipe of the stationary ontat, remove the ontat barrel and sleeve as a omplete unit after loosenihg the srew at the front of the ontat blok. Unsrew the ap (E, Fig. 1). The ontat and its flat spiral mounting spring may then be removed. The spring should be ad usted so that a ontat wipe of approximately inh is obtained when fully assembled. This may be measured by rotatin the ontat barrel 45 to 90 degrees (l/;it;;~~~*) after initial onnetion with the The ontat gap may be adjusted by loosening slightly the same srew at the front of the ontat blok. The srew should be loose enough only to allow the ontat barrel to rotate in its sleeve. The right stationary ontat barrel or the stop srew fastened with a loknut, whihever is used, should hold the moving ontat arm in a neutral position, i.e., with it pointing diretly forward. Then bring the left stationary ontat up until it just touhes the moving ontat by rotating the ontat barrel. Next, bak it away 2/3 turn to obtain approximately inh ontat gap. Last, tighten the srew whih seures the barrel. When a rear normally open ontat is present, it should be adjusted to make at or just after the front left ontats have made, but before they have wiped in. The moving ontat may be removed by loosening the srew whih seures it to the ontat arm and sliding it from under the srew head. CLUTCH ADJUSTMENTS Cluth adjustment is made with testonnetions shown in Fig. 6 with the adjustable resistor apable of ontrolling the urrent in the urrent oils between 5 and 35 amperes. A srew on the side of the moving ontat arm ontrols the luth pressure. (d) Avoiding any disturbane to the top bearing plate, remove the enttre top molded struture and rotor assembly from the stator assemby by removing the four orner srews. This will give aess to both the rotor and stator assemblies and all parts will be aligned by the dowel pins when PSplWed. (e) To remove the rotor assembly from the top molded struture, remove the small pin from the groove at the upper end of the shaft and bak off on the luth srew loated on the right side of the movable ontat arm. Use are in handling the rotor while it is out of the relay, and see that the air gap and rotor are kept lean. In reassembly, the rotor will go into the air gap easily without foring if the parts are held in line properly. BEARINGS The lower jewel srew an be removed from the unit by means of an offset srew driver or an end wrenh. The jewel may bs tested for raks by exploring its surfae with the point of a fine needle. CONTACT CLEANING For leaning fine silver ontats, a flexible burnishing tool should be used. This onsists of a flexible strip of metal with an ethed roughened surfae, resembling in effet a superfine file. The polishing ation is so deliate that no srathes are left, yet orroded material will be removed rapidly and thoroughly. The flexibility of the tool insures the leaning of the atual points of ontat. Fine silver ontats should not be leaned with knives, files, or abrasive paper or loth. Knives or files may leave srathes whih inrease aringand deterioration of the ontats. Abrasive paper or loti may leave minute partiles of tnsul%ting abrasive material in the ontats and thus prevent losing. The burnishing tool desribed is inluded in the standard relay tool kit obtainable from the fatory. PERIODIC TESTING An operation test and inspetion of the relay at least one every six months are reommended. A hek of minimum operating urrent is suffiient to insure orret operation.
