4 4 Pneumatic offer for use in industria and exposive atmospheres This guide has been designed to hep you quicky identify the appropriate products for your requirements.most of our pneumatic components are avaiabe in a standard range and a range for use in exposive atmospheres (ATEX): this information is given in the righthand coumn on each page. Industria range The standard range of pneumatic components is designed to meet requirements for industria appications. The operating characteristics (pressure, fow rate, service ife, etc.) have been optimised to best meet these needs. Range for use in exposive atmospheres The range for use in exposive atmospheres has been deveoped specificay for appications requiring compiance with European Directive 94/9/EC, the fu detais of which can be found on pages 30 and 31 of this guide. The user is responsibe for ensuring the compiance of his instaations. A new instaations must be compiant, and repacements in the event of breakdown or maintenance must compy with this directive. of our ATEX components v ATEX products are specificay marked in accordance with the atest versions of harmonised standards v Every product is suppied with a guide specifying the usage restrictions in exposive atmospheres v A copy of the approva certificate can be provided if requested at the time of order v The order entry must state the usage conditions Crouzet states the usage restrictions on acknowedgements of receipt of order, deivery notes and invoices Crouzet has produced a separate cataogue for Pneumatic products for use in exposive atmospheres. This cataogue gives detais of the entire Crouzet range of ATEX pneumatic products aong with associated standards, certifications, directives, markings and order conditions.

5 5 ATEX Directive 94/9/EC: genera information Principes of Directive 94/9/EC: The directive aims to harmonise the egisation of European Union member states in order to ensure free circuation of equipment intended for use in exposive atmospheres (gas and dust). Since 1 Juy 2003, this directive has appied to eectrica, mechanica, hydrauic and pneumatic products. It concerns the assessment of protective devices and systems (manufacturers) as we as the design (design office), instaation (instaers, panebuiders) and maintenance (maintenance depts) of instaations. Definition of an exposive atmosphere: An exposive atmosphere is defined as a mixture of fammabe substances (in the form of gas, vapour, mist or dust) with air under atmospheric conditions in which, after ignition, combustion spreads throughout the entire unburned mixture. Sparks Heat source Appication since 30 June 2003: Manufacturers must offer products, which compy with Directive 94/9/EC and must have a Quaity Contro System that has been approved by a notified body. Users are responsibe for using equipment correcty according to the zones they have defined within their instaations based on the potentia risks. Existing instaations must be brought into conformity with the ATEX Directive before 30 June A new products commissioned must compy with Directive 94/9/ EC. In the event of breakdown, instaed equipment that cannot be repaired must be repaced with equipment compying with Directive 94/9/EC Cassification: Potentiay exposive environments are cassified by zone in compiance with Directive 1999/92/EC. This directive is aimed at users. It detais the minimum requirements for increasing protection of the heath and safety of workers exposed to exposive atmospheres. ATEX Directive 94/9/EC defines categories of equipment and protection systems, which can be used in the corresponding zones. Categories M1 and M2 reate to mines (group I) Categories 1, 2 and 3 reate to other ocations (group II) often referred to as "Surface industries" Oxidiser Oxygen (air contains 21% oxygen) Some reevant areas: Fue Fammabe substances in the form of gas, vapour, mist, dust Documents and recommendations/products: ATEXcertified products must be suppied with an EC decaration of conformity and a user manua. At the time of sae, the saes representatives must check the zone in which the product is to be used. On the order, the customer must inform the manufacturer of the conditions of use. Manufacturers and distributors must ensure that their saes of ATEX products are traceabe (so that customers who have been sod an ATEX product can be ocated in reation to the product's date of manufacture). In the case of an assemby, the product with the owest certification eve determines the eve of the whoe assemby. Sios Water treatment Refineries Paper industry Ports Gas storage Paint factories Vehices (if used in ATEX conditions) Chemica factories

42 42 Genera characteristics Operating fuid Compressed air or inert gas. Conditions of use Operating pressure 2 at 8 bars (except for specia conditions). Fuid: Fitered air to 50 microns non ubricated. Operating temperature from 5 C to + 50 C (under + 5 C the dew point must be beow 10 C for the appication). For optimum performance, the eements shoud be interconnected by air suppy tubing with an interna diameter at 2.5 mm. Mounting recommendations The eements shoud be mounted and piped in a cean atmosphere in order to prevent any form of poution entering the system. Minimum torque for eement fixing screws: 5 cm/kg. maximum torque for eement fixing screws: 10 cm/kg. common to a eements in the moduar system The characteristics have been obtained with a suppy pressure at 6 bars. The fow in NI/min is the number of itres of air at norma atmospheric pressure obtained with the output open to atmophere and the suppy pressure at 4 bars The consumption in NI/min is the number of itres of free air necessary for the unit to function. kv = the fow coefficient of the equipment. Mechanica ife > 10 7 operations. fow graphs Ø of passage (mm) P. suppy pressure : 4 bars P. suppy pressure: 6 bars Fow (NL/mn) Sequencer modues Operation resuts from the combination of a sequentia cyce. A system comprises individua modues which are joined together by means of a subbase. Each modue has a memory which deivers an output signa and receives an input signa. An indicator on each modue aows the operator to monitor the progress of the cyce and identity quicky and easiy any faut which may occur. Modue with auto reset Operation resuts from the combination of three functions (memory, AND and OR) which constitute each modue. The memory activates the output and gives priority to the reset signa. The AND eement ensures the transition to the next modue but ony if an input signa is present. The OR eement ensures the resetting of a previousy operated modues Function diagram Brake This returns the memory spoo to the reset condition ony when the suppy is ost Shift register The genera principe is to advance the sequencer step by command impuses to the inputs of the even steps, aternating with the command impuses to the inputs of the odd steps.
