Rising iquid eve ifts the foat, siding the attraction seeve up inside the encosing tube and into the magnetic fied to actuate the eectrica or pneumatic switch (signaing iquid presence). Subsequenty, faing iquid eve owers the foat, drawing the attraction seeve out of the magnetic fied to deactuate the eectrica or pneumatic switch (signaing iquid absence). Foattype eve switches are generay abe to hande hightemperature appications, and sometimes prove usefu for cose interface detection. Foats can operate up to three switching eements. 5 Mechanica Leve Switches Principes DispacerOperated Leve Switches Mode Series 700, 730, 740, 750 and 800 Dispacer contros offer aternative features to the foatoperated contro. The sensor is a weight (dispacer), heavier than the iquid, that is suspended by a spring. When iquid contacts the dispacer, a buoyancy force is produced, which causes the effective weight of the dispacer to change. This causes the spring to retract sighty to a new equiibrium position. When the spring retracts, the attraction seeve aso moves upward into the fied of the externa magnet, thus overcoming the force of the bias spring and actuating the switching eement. This principe provides for narrow or wide switching differentia, and aows switching point ateration by moving the dispacer(s) up or down the suspension cabes. Dispacers may be arranged in combinations of narrow and wide differentia to operate up to three switching stages. Dispacer contros operate under higher pressure conditions than foatoperated switches. Interna Trim A sensing eements (foats and dispacers) are constructed of either 316/316LSS or porceain as a minimum. Attraction seeves are avaiabe in 400SS as a standard, with 316/316LSS or other exotic metas as an option. A other wetted interna parts are or better. A stainess stee construction no auminum or brass. Temperature ratings avaiabe from 65 F ( 54 C) to 1000 F (538 C) on dry, non condensing services. Condensing service (steam) temperature ratings avaiabe up to 800 F (427 C), and up to 1200 F (649 C) with protection (see page 52). Avaiabe switching mechanisms incude hermeticay seaed, standard open contacts, or pneumatic contacts. Agency istings are avaiabe on most switch mechanisms: UL, CSA, ATEX or SAA (Austraia). Switch Housings A SOR switch housings are made from rugged castings. Materias are copperfree auminum or cast iron. A wide range of exposionproof ratings and agency istings are avaiabe. Quaity Assurance SOR maintains a high eve of quaity throughout our corporation. Many quaity assurance features are buit into our products. ISO 9001 certified engineering design and production system (certified since 1993). Leveweded chambers designed to the guideines of ASME B31.1 and B31.3 (inspection certificate avaiabe see page 55). A weders and wed procedures are quaified and maintained to ASME Section IX. A ASTM grade materias used Certified Mi Test Reports required on a raw materias. These temperatures may be safey reached by a proper combination of chamber materia, switch mechanism and temperature extension. ET Accessory The straight temperature extension provides physica distance between the process and the switching mechanism. It is constructed of a straight piece of pipe weded between the chamber and encosing tube connection. How It Works The straight temperature extension is designed to remove the switch from direct radiant heat in dry heat processes. Consut the chart on page 52 for appication. How It Works The finned temperature extension condenses process steam and reduces its heat before it can reach the switching mechanism. The design reduces steam to its saturation temperature in the encosing tube, protecting the switching mechanism from deterioration due to high temperatures. 52 Mechanica Leve Switches High Temperature Seection There are two sections to the chart, Steam Heat and Dry Heat. Fundamenta differences in condensing (steam) and noncondensing (dry) heat require different methods of protection. Steam Heat processes carry it s heat with the vapor. These processes effectivey heat every portion of their encosure. To reduce the heat effects of condensing processes, we must either condense or physicay bock the vapor. SOR uses a condensing system to avoid the seaing probems associated with bocking the steam. Dry Heat processes transfer heat through direct conduction. Heat is ony passed to the areas where they touch the encosure. Therefore, radiant heat is the ony concern with these processes. Designator CY CZ Certificate of Conformance to ASME/ANSI B31.1 Power Piping ASME/ANSI B31.3 Petrochemica Piping If certification to B31.3 is required, SOR must know the fuid category per the chart beow. Refer to the ASME/ANSI B31.3 Fuid Category Section to determine the appicabe category. ANSI/ASME B31.3 Fuid Category Norma A fuid service not subject to the foowing four categories. Category D A fuid service in which a of the foowing appy: 1. The fuid handed is nonfammabe, nontoxic, and not damaging to human skin. 2. The design gage pressure does not exceed 150 psi. 3. The design temperature is between 20 F and 366 F. Category M A fuid service in which the potentia for personne exposure is judged to be significant and in which a singe exposure to a very sma quantity of a toxic fuid, caused by eakage, can produce serious irreversibe harm to persons on breathing or bodiy contact, even when prompt restorative measures are taken. Severe Cycic A fuid service with highcyce rates that cause extreme stress on components. High Pressure Pressure in excess of that aowed by the ASME B16.5 Cass 2500 rating for the specified temperature and materia group or any piping so designated by the customer. Wed Examination When CY or CZ is specified, SOR performs examination to meet these codes. This incudes visua inspection and utrasonic, Xray, magnetic partice or dye penetrant testing as required by ASME B31.1 or B31.3. If CY or CZ is not seected but examination is required, accessories UT (utrasonic), RT (Xray), MT (magnetic partice) or PT (dye penetrant) can be added to the mode number to incude this testing. Hydrostatic Testing SOR performs a hydrostatic pressure test on a weded chambers at 1.5 times the design pressure for three minutes. CY and CZ options and Hydrotest Certificates incude a hydrostatic pressure test at 1.5 times the design pressure for ten minutes as required by ASME B31.1 and B31.3 codes. The standard 30foot stainess stee chain aows manua actuation from the tank base, eiminating potentiay hazardous trips to the top of the tank. Specify either an MC or TC option by pacing the designator in the accessory section of the mode number.
