6 7 Prepring for instlltion Trnsporting modules to the instlltion site 7.1 Hndling leo modules Storing modules Frmed modules Modules in pckging units: Store the leo modules upright in the pckging units. Mke sure tht ech module hs sufficient support. Do not stck the pckging units. This could dmge the modules. Individul modules: Store individul leo modules in n upright position on wedges with suitble pdding. Use dequte pd ding between the individul modules. Avoid stcking individul modules, s well s the pllets they rest on Unpcking modules Frmed modules Using n underly, incline the pllet (e.g. with bem, height pprox. 10 cm for 5 inclintion), so tht the opening on the front of the box is elevted. The modules then len bck in the box which mkes it esier to remove them. Use n underly for inclining which supports the whole side of the pllet (e.g. bem). This keeps the modules supported in the box long their entire width. Remove the module from this side only. Remove the module with the help of nother person, if possible. Observe the unpcking instructions on the module box Checking modules Before instlltion, check ech leo module formechnicl defects. Py prticulr ttention to possible dmge to glss pnels nd insulted bck sheets. In ddition, check the insultion on the cbles, connectors nd junction boxes. If you discover ny defects, report them to the supplier or trnsport compny immeditely. Frmed modules Alwys crry the leo module with one other per son. Tke hold of the module on its long sides. When trnsporting individul modules, mke sure tht you do not put ny strin or pressure on the junction box nd cbles. 7.2 Sfety precutions DANGER! When instlling on roofs or other elevted sites, objects my fll down. Severe or ftl injuries re possible! Block off the dnger zone for people nd nimls before beginning instlltion work. If possible, remove ll objects from the dnger zone. DANGER! Electric rcs form when electricl connections re mde or disconnected incorrectly. Severe or ftl injuries from electric shock or severe injury from burns! Disconnect the photovoltic genertor before you crry out ny work on the electricl components of the photovoltic genertor. DANGER! High DC voltges, even when the photovoltic genertor is disconnected, if the genertor is erthed. Severe or ftl injuries from electric shock! If the circuit of your photovoltic genertor is erthed, remove the erth before crrying out electricl work on the genertor. WARNING! Exposed live prts on dmged modules. Dnger of electric shock! Only use components which re in perfect condition for use in photovoltic systems. Do not instll solr modules with visible dmge to the glss pnels, the insulting bck sheet or on the insultion of electricl connections. Work in dry conditions. Mke sure tht the electricl connections on the solr module, the cbles used for instlltion nd the tools, re dry Inclintion Incline the surfce of the modules t n ngle of t lest 10 horizontlly, so tht precipittion cn drin off which supports the modules self-clening. For optimum self-clening, we recommend n ngle of t lest 15 horizontlly Helth nd sfety CAUTION! Risk of slipping due to wind, rin, snow or ice. Risk of injury due to flling or colliding with objects! Avoid unfvourble wether conditions, such s strong wind or rin. Also void working on the instlltion site in ice nd snow. Use the sfety equipment required or recommended by locl regultions, such s hrd hts, steel-cpped shoes with rubber soles, protective goggles, gloves or fll-protection systems. CAUTION! Hot module prts in strong sunlight. Risk of burning! Protect yourself from burning by wering gloves nd suitble clothing. 7.3 Electricl connections For modules connected in series, only leo modules with sme current rting must be use together For modules connected in prllel, only leo modules with the sme voltge rting must be some together The module must be not operted t higher voltge thn the permissible system voltge 8 Mechnicl Instlltion 8.1 Mounting orienttion for modules Verticl (portrit) mounting When mounting the module verticlly, mke sure tht the cbles re fcing towrds the ground nd the junction box is fcing upwrds Horizontl (lndscpe) mounting When mounting horizontlly, mke sure tht the exit holes for the cbles on the module or the junction box re positioned on the inside of the photovoltic genertor. Avoid the lterl outer edges of the photovoltic genertor to minimise the effect of mbient conditions, such s wind or rin. Fig.1 Recommended position of the junction boxes for horizontl mounting (fcing the middle of the genertor) 8.2 Sfety precutions Do not drill ny dditionl holes in leo modules or their frmes. 8.3 Improper mounting Do not ttch the modules using nils. The vibrtion creted in the process cn cuse micro fissures nd loss of yield, nd results in loss of wrrnty rights. Do not ttch the modules by welding. The tempertures creted in the process cn cuse delmintion, micro fissures nd loss of yield, nd results in loss of wrrnty rights. 8.4 Intervls Intervls between modules with stndrd frmes Leve minimum clernce when mounting modules. This prevents mechnicl tension due to therml expnsion. When mounting t intervls Leve clernce of 3 mm or more between the individul module frmes. 8 The recommended mximum clernce is 30 cm, bsed on the modules stndrd cble length. leo solr recommends mounting t intervls. Also note the informtion from the mounting equipment vendor. This could specify lrger intervls Clernce under the modules Minimum clernce Rooftop or freefield mounting Ensure clernce of t lest 4 cm between the rer edge of the frme nd the mounting surfce (e.g. the roof tiles) for the rer ventiltion ofthe leo module. Roof-integrted mounting Ensure n pproprite intervl, for exmple, to the trough of the mounting system. Also ensure dequte ridge ventiltion, for exmple, with roof ridge ventiltor. Mximum clernce The lrgest permissible clernce is defined by ntionl stndrds. This is used to design the instl ltion on the ssumed effects of wind nd suction. The ctul mximum clernce of n instlltion is determined by the sub-structure. Ensure tht your sub-structure dheres to the permissible clernces. 8.5 Avoiding sels Avoid the use of sel between leo modules nd their mounting surfce. Dry nd cool opertion cn hve positive effect on the performnce s well s the service life of n leo module. Also for roof-integrted mounting, ensure good rer ventiltion to minimise loss of output which results from higher module temperture. Ensure dequte ridge ventiltion, for exmple, with roof ridge ventiltor. 8.6 Clernce under the modules Keep the spce behind the lminte free of ny objects. This prevents dmge to the insulting bck sheet nd the junction box. Ensure tht shrp or conductive prts (e.g. screws or nils) do not protrude into the spce behind the module. If possible, tke mesures to prevent foreign objects (e.g. snow, ice, leves, twigs, brnches from being ble to get behind the module. 8.7 Shdowing Avoidnce of shdowing Avoid shdowing of solr modules. This pplies lso nd especilly for shdowing of smll res due to close smll objects like ntenns or lightning protectors. If there is systemticl shdowing in the course of the dy or yer becuse of djcent objects t the site nd you do not hve ny opportunity to ffect the shdowing, then: - tke nother site into considertion - only pln with the non-shdowed prts of your site when you configure your photovoltic-genertor Effects of shdowing Even shdowing of single module or solr cell cn pprecibly ffect the power output of your photovoltic plnt. If shdow flls on single solr modules of photovoltic genertor or on single solr cells of solr module, the shdowed prts generte less or no electricl power nymore. This my ffect the yield of the whole module string nd therefore the whole genertor. Furthermore, shdowing often cuses the solr cells to consume the otherwise in the module generted electricl power. This my cuse wrming of the shdowed cells in comprison to the not shded cells, which in extreme cses cn rise the risk of fire. Constnt or systemtic shdowing cn cuse serious yield loss nd my ccelerte the ging process nd therefore cuses power loss or filures of the photovoltic genertor. Avoid shdowing e.g. cused by building prts, depending on dy time or seson (esp. in winter) to optimize the yield nd durbility of your plnt Protective devices of the modules Aleo modules re equipped with bypss-elements to limit the temperture rising becuse of the internl power consumption induced by shdowing to non-criticl grde nd thus protect the module. Avoid systemtic shdowing lso becuse the bypss-elements re not suited for constnt, long lsting lods. 9 9 Electricl instlltion 9.1 Connectors WARNING! Incomptible or unsuitble connectors cn overhet. Fire hzrd! Only use connectors tht re the sme type nd from the sme mnufcturer. Avoid using different types of connectors or ones from different mnufcturers, even: - if connecting is possible - if the connectors hve the sme bsic designtion (e.g. MC4 ) or - if they re designted s comptible. You cn find more detils on this in the next two sections Module connectors The vrious module types cn be fitted with the following connectors: Originl Multicontct MC4 (with locking) PV-JM601 (with locking) You cn find the specific connectors in the module dt sheet Connector peculirities Originl Multicontct MC4 connectors Only plug originl Multicontct MC4 connectors into originl Multicontct MC4 connectors. 2 PV-JM601 connectors Only plug PV-JM601 connectors into PV-JM601 connectors. Avoid ny tensile nd pressure lods on the junction box when mounting. When mounting, void hevy tensile lods on ny connectors lredy plugged in. Bend the cbles from the connector t lest 4 cm fter they exit from the connector. Bend the cbles from the junction box s well, t lest 4 cm fter they exit from the connector. This keeps the cbles wterproof t the cble outlet. Observe the guidelines on lying the respective cbles. Ly ll cbles ensuring tht: You dhere to the minimum bend rdius (e.g. 5-fold cble dimeter3). You void lying ner shrp corners nd edges or protect the cbles ccordingly. cbles must not ly between module bckside nd mounting system prts. You protect them from direct sunlight nd precipittion. You secure the cbles with UV resistnt cble clips 4 or other suitble cble fsteners which protect the cble insultion. Modules mounted verticlly do not usully need ny dditionl djustments Replcing the connectors You cn remove the connector on module nd replce it with nother connector, if necessry. You retin the mnufcturing wrrnty if you remove nd mount with pproved tools in the proper wy nd ccording to the connector mnufcturer s instructions. 9.2 Lying the string cbles CAUTION! Brittle frctures in junction boxes due to contct with unsuitble connection cbles: Risk of fire!
