2 A Message From The President The 4th Annual Concours in the Park on May 21st was fantastic! We had over 60 registered Porsche's with lots of awards given away. Pictures are now posted on our website under Gallery. Thanks to Bruce and Carman Sweetman for the great pictures. If you want to order a professional photo of your car enlarged, go Bruce's website at Thanks for all workers, judges, sponsors (posted on front page of our website) and everyone who made this another great event! Congratulations to all award winners! Even though I couldn't make it, I understand the trip to the north GA mountains and a visit to the Porsche Experience Center along with dining at Restaurant 356 went exceptionally well. Thanks to John Hudson, Joe Questel, Dan Martin, JC and anyone else who helped plan and execute these drives and visits to everyone's enjoyment! Besides club dinner meeting, next club event is a June 18 tour of Williamson County over towards Fairview and Centerview and then up to historic downtown Dickson for lunch at Lugo's, a great little Italian restaurant run by husband and wife team. I have eaten there once and Shirley has eaten there twice and food was excellent both times. Lots of antique shops within walking distance if you need to walk off lunch before heading home. Anyone going to Parade up in VT? Let me know as I have a President's Reception invitation you can have and use while there. Note the Bellissimo! advertisement in this newsletter. We will visit the Frist Museum Aug 28 to see the nice Italian cars and motorcycles, so if you want to join us, send your check in today along with your meal selection. We will definitely sell-out for this event before Aug 7, as we did when the Sensuous Steel was there a couple years ago, so mail your check for $25/pp plus meal selection to Randy today. If you think about only 50 people can go on this trip, that is only 25 cars or slightly more and we get free parking in back. 5 Porsche Experience Center By: JC Costarakis On Wednesday, April 27 th, a special group of Musik Stadt members began a pilgrimage starting in Nashville, Tennessee and driving through to their 1 st destination for the day Dahlonega, Georgia. Of course, no Porsche took a straight line! Their leader, John Hudson, made sure that his group would go down many roads that were made for sports cars and motorcycles alike. And, that was only the 1 st day of this journey! Thursday, the groups drove more curves and twisty s, to arrive in Helen, Georgia for lunch. The roads between Dahlonega and Helen usually hold no straight lines and John made sure he took them on a course that would have felt like an extended autocross! Sharp left turns, sharp right PAGE 5

6 turns, up the mountain, down the mountain, decreasing radius turns, increasing radius turns and great views for passengers! However, the Thursday trip through the wonderful mountains did have stops for the passengers (mostly) to take in some great vineyards and wineries! All in one days time, the group had seen maintains, drove hair-raising curves, and took-in local establishments and cocktails! What more could you ask for on a trip?! Well, John had other ideas on Friday, before making his way to the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) to meet up with the Friday group that left Nashville. If you were not up to drive more curves, then you had the option of shopping in Dahlonega or wait for lunch at the Wolf Mountain Winery; the owner of the establishment owns a 356 Speedster (which belonged to Olivia Newton John), a 356A coupe, and a Boxster Spyder! After lunch, the group left the winery and drove the infamous route GA-9, which is also known as Thunder Highway or Thunder Road for its use by moonshiners heading to Atlanta. This is also where the 1 st group met up with the 2 nd group that left that morning. Group 2 also had a nice winding drive from Jasper, TN to Chattanooga due to an accident on I-24. The group did not mind, of course, taking on a nice sweeping detour. In fact, it broke up some of the monotony of the drive! With both groups meeting at the hotel within an hour of each other, some decided to relax in their rooms before dinner and some at various other places in the hotel. However, many left early to arrive at the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) for dinner. As each car got their pass through the secure gate, they entered and had their choice of covered parking under the PEC or out front of the building. If you parked underneath the building, your first sight was a neon-light green, dark blue Porsche 918 named, Meredith! Why a 918 named Meredith? Well, we were later told by our personal tour guide and Service Director, Ray Shaffer, that 918 s were named and this particular car had its named stamped underneath its rear spoiler. PAGE 6

7 That Friday night, some members ate early (at 6:30) and others waited at the bar within the 356 Restaurant. Then as each person s reservation came, they were seated at their tables for some fine dining which also overlooked the beautiful Porsche track! The next day, some people had a quick breakfast at the hotel and immediately checked out and left to go back to the PEC. Some people, like me, couldn t sleep that night waiting to get back to the facility to gaze at the new, and classic, cars within its realm. Some people had simulator times lined up, while others had drive times on the track lined up. And as that went on, Ray Shaffer offered the club a personal tour of the facility. As the tour went on, we saw classic 911 s from the Ingram Collection (based out of North Carolina), the new car delivery center, where you can pick up your new Porsche from the PEC, the Classic Porsche Service area, and an overview of some GT4s and Boxsters. There was even a Cayenne on the track! If you have never been to the Porsche Experience Center, it s something you should look into! You may not get the personal tour like some of our club members did, but you can walk around and see some magnificent cars throughout Porsche history! Or maybe while you are there, get your classic Porsche worked on in the service center! Plus, see the building that Marvel Comics filmed the Captain America movie! PAGE 7

12 Bellissima! the Italian Automotive Renaissance, The Frist Center for the Visual Arts Sunday, August 28, 2016 Sunday, August 28, 2016, will be Porsche Car Club Sunday at the Frist Center as members of Musik Stadt Region PCA will be the Frist s special guests for Bellissima! the Italian Automotive Renaissance, Bellissima! celebrates the visual dynamism and spirit of innovation characterizing Italian coach-built cars, concept cars and motorcycles produced during the post World War II economic revival. Returning to the Frist Center after the 2013 presentation of Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles, automotive authority and guest curator Ken Gross has chosen 19 automobiles and 3 motorcycles from private collections and museums that are among the finest examples of Italian automotive design, including vehicles by Alfa Romeo, Bizzarrini, Ducati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lancia and Maserati. With the ultra-rare Alfa Romeo BAT models 5, 7 and 9 from the 1950s and a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, this all-star assembly offers surprises for even the most knowledgeable car aficionados. These powerful and extraordinary cars exemplify the sexy and streamlined Italian design language that propelled Italy to the forefront of automotive design internationally. The Nashville Section has arranged for early admission and a private lunch prior to the tour for only $25 per person. Because seating for the lunch is limited, this event is restricted to only 50 members and their guests. We expect that this will be a sell-out, so please make your reservations early. You can reserve your place by sending a check payable to MSK PCA for $25 per person to Randy Lynch, 1308 Haber Drive, Brentwood TN The Frist requires that we notify them as to the number of guests attending at least 21 days in advance, so we must cut off reservations on Friday, August 5, 2016, or as soon as we hit the 50-person limit. Lunch includes a sandwich, chips, cookie and a choice of bottled water or soda. The lunch choices are: 1. Turkey Club Sandwich; 2. Chicken Salad on Croissant; 3. Vegetarian Mediterranean Wrap. 13 The parking lot for the Frist Center is located behind the Frist Center, 919 Broadway, Nashville. The lot will open at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, for the Porsche Club, but will not open to the general public until 11:30 a.m. In order for the Club to be able to park our cars together in the lot please plan to gather in the parking lot behind the Frist no later than 11:15 a.m. At 12:00 noon we will enjoy lunch in the Rector Room of the Frist for lunch (on the left as you enter through the rear entrance of the Frist.
