2 A Message From The President This is my last President s Message as I have great news for Musik-Stadt. We begin 2019 with a new host of officers that I m certain will continue to grow and improve our club. While I pledged officer elections in 2018, in the end the only nominees for office came from the nominating committee. There were no nominee names put forward by our members. As prescribed by our charter the nominees met December 8 and elected their officers. They are: President - Harald Melson Vice-President - Josh Swayze Treasurer - John Shaw Secretary - Mike Moody Membership Director - John Harbor Events Director - Craig Flamme Driving Tours - Don Wirth Safety Officer - Jerry Fink Dealer and Industry Liaison - Cherie Beatty Communications Director - Alex Hollis Kent Kersten - Webmaster Ken Maurer - Newsletter Ed. I am very confidant that this team will do an outstanding job of leading our region. They are already leaders. Most attend every meeting and make the majority of drives and other events we offer. They have been critical in the success of Musik-Stadt. than maintain our banking records. Randy with his superb organizational skills has been instrumental in creating our concours registration and classification process and the entrant kits that are used. He manages all of our payment processes for the concours, our annual awards banquet and special events like the Beechcraft Heritage Museum trip. Thanks Randy! While the weather is not dependable enough to schedule drives during January & February you may want to join your MSK friends for breakfast at the Puffy Muffin in Brentwood, on the first Saturday of January, February and March. We meet at 8:00 AM. Please don t forget to register for our 2019 Musik-Stadt Awards Banquet. You can register via a link on musikstadtpca.org. We will once again have our banquet at the Brentwood Country Club, 5123 Country Club Dr., Brentwood at 6:00PM on January 26, Cost is $50 PP with a choice of filet of beef, chicken or vegetarian. While we have great new leaders I have to thank the officers and other leaders that have worked so hard and given their time during the last two years as I served as president. They include Rick Arnemann, Ken Maurer, Kent Kersten, Craig Flamme, Erik Lund, J.C. Costarakis, Joe Questel, Mike Moody and Don Wirth. 7 If This is Tuesday, It Must Be Stuttgart.Part II Text and Photos By Craig Flamme The day after our Porsche Factory tour was the day that we were going to check out the museum and all its offerings. I could hardly wait to get on the S Bahn heading towards Porsche Platz! The day before we got a little taste of the displays as we had lunch at the Christophorus restaurant. Compared to my last visit on 2004, the number of exhibits had basically expanded exponentially. The original museum was located on a side-road near the Porsche factory. It was a relatively small museum, only big enough to hold around 20 exhibits (in rotation). The new museum is, in my humble opinion, a beautiful structure; very modern in its appearance and aesthetic. Kim and I purchased our tickets (PCA members get 50% off!). Kim optioned for the self-guided tour which she told me was very impressive in its presentation. There is also an app, Porscheplatz that contains an audio guide too. I just wandered around drooling in amazement at all the historic cars that we all have read about, dreaming about driving the 917Ks around the 24-hour Le Mans circuit or the Nordschliefe at the Nurburgring. The layout was impressive. All the displays were upstairs from the main floor. There is the Coffee Bar near the windows looking into the Classic Workshop, the Boxenstopp Bistro on the main floor and the Christophorus Michelin rated restaurant on the top floor. You will also find the Museum store on the main floor. Once you buy your ticket you can take a long escalator up to the display area (or take the stairs). The cars are arranged on two floors and a ramp that leads between them. You start on the lower display floor and walk counter clockwise through the cars and up the ramp to the top floor. Then you can take a longer escalator back down to the main floor. All around you will see signage that celebrates the 70 th anniversary of Porsche. Neon 70s hanging from the ceiling and painted on the walls. Very well done. As you get to the top of the escalator the first exhibit practically hits you in the nose! Porsche Number 1!! A beautiful car, I can t say enough about this car. The pre-cursor to the 356, the car which first drew me to the marque. The displays continue from there with the early days (pre-1948), continuing through the following decades of product history along the outer wall. The interior displays feature Porsche s rich racing history, engineering achievements and design studies. The top floor displays details Porsche s evolution into the hybrid and the upcoming electric future. So, enough of me beating the keyboard onto some pictures!!! PAGE 7

13 Germany Christmas Markets, Porsche Factory & Museum Tour By M. Moody Yes I finally persuaded my wife Shirley to revisit Germany after many years we lived there , so she agreed to go back if she could revisit the biggest and oldest Christmas market in Germany, which is in Nuremberg. Of course I got what I wanted which was in Stuttgart. Since Craig Flamme will be posting Porsche Museum pictures, I thought you might be interested in a few trip highlights starting with the Atlanta International Terminal. We stayed 4 nights in Nuremberg in the same hotel we stayed at in 1974, right in front of the Christkindlemart (Nuremberg s famous Christmas Market), and inside the ancient walled city.
