Register at: and search for Musik-Stadt events Event Details Awards Concours Tee Shirt This PCA Musik-Stadt (MSK) Concours event is designed to recognize the best maintained Porsches, and participation points will be applied toward the Enthusiast of the Year Award. Entries will be grouped into 13 classes, and awards will be given for first-, second-, and third-place class winners in each category, as well as the People s Choice and the Judge s selection for the John Hudson Award. There also will be a Dealer s Choice Award for the car judged exceptional by Porsche of Nashville. You will receive your event tee shirt with your car documentation at registration. The event tee shirts will be available for sale at the Concours for $20 each. Cars will be evaluated based on specific criteria established by the PCA and published in the Parade Competition Rules (PCR) for the interior, exterior, storage compartment, and engine. Points will be deducted from 100 (perfect) against a standardized score sheet. Judges will be restricted to a standard time limit per car. Scores from the four areas will be totaled and the car with the highest score will win. MSK Concours judging is based on the assumption that the Porsche to be judged should be in the same state of fit, finish, and repair as the day it left the factory. The best maintained cars will be those whose owners have repaired, replaced, and/or touched up items and areas that have deteriorated from as new condition. Participating Classes Mix cotton/poly vintage navy shirt. Club crest and event on the front and image and Porsche on the back. These tee shirts will only be available for sale at the 2018 Concours d Elegance in the Park event and only while supplies last. Group 1: Type 356 Group 2: 12-current Type tee shirt Group 3: Type 911, 912 Group 4: Type 914, Group 5: Type 911, 912E It is the owner s effort to maintain the car in pristine condition that will be judged not perfection. Group 6: Type 924, 944, 968, 928 The number of cars entered in each class will determine second and third place awards. Should more than one car have identical scores, the car(s) with the highest mileage will prevail. Group 8: Type 996 The Concours opens at 8:30 a.m. Judging begins at 10:00 a.m. Awards will be presented at 1:00 p.m. The entry fee is $30 and preregistration is encouraged. 4 A Message From The President This message from me is likely to be short. It s sunny and 63 and I m sitting in front of the TV but aching to go for a drive with my top down. Yeah I m going to keep this one short. First of all thanks to member Joe Questel for hosting an Open House at My Other Garage on April 14. The weather was miserable, but the company was great (as was the pizza). Due to low turnout from Musik-Stadt Craig Flamme had to cancel his concours preparation tech session. Craig did have a concours judges training session at his home on April 21 and is conducting another session on May 12. This training will also be at his home, 8213 Spring Ridge Dr., 37221, from 10-11:30 AM. We really need at least 10 more judges & timers to participate. With less than 16 judges & timers we will likely run into the middle of the afternoon getting everyone s entry judged. A suggestion: if you come and get trained as a judge you will know exactly what the judges expect and therefore should be able to prepare your car to a higher level to show. Just sayin. GREAT NEWS REGARDING OUR CONCOURS! Mike Gillespie reports that Bridgestone Tires once again is donating a set of four tires to raffle off at our event. The raffle is only open to paid entrants. THANK YOU BRIDGESTONE!! While Bridgestone is our major sponsor for this event we also have sponsor support from Porsche of Nashville and D&M Supply. You may need PON for some worn or broken parts as well as Porsche brand products to put the shine back on your ride. Remember it s time to get serious about getting your Porsche whipped into concours condition as we are only two weeks away from our big day of May 19. Our Concours d Elegance in the Park takes place again in Edwin Warner Park, Picnic Area 11. Want a new Porsche? Entries are now being accepted for the Fall Members Only Raffle of a 718 GTS (Cayman or Boxster) PLUS $25,000! These have been so wildly popular with PCA members that six cars were awarded in each of the last two raffles. If you re feeling lucky you may want to buy a ticket or two. Visit pca.org to purchase raffle tickets. Have you seen the video of the 2019 GT3 RS setting a new record for production cars at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife? The latest version of the GT3 RS travelled the mile Nordschleife in only 6:56.4 minutes. That s faster than every street car except the Porsche GT2 RS and the Lamborghini Huracan. That s right it s faster than the 918 Spyder by over 30 seconds. It was 24 seconds faster than the last GT3 RS. According to Porsche the new version is very similar to their GT3 R racing model. 7 The Golden Age Is Now By: K Maurer I know the title is far from unique, but bear with me. This past weekend as I was watching a re-run of the race broadcast of the 12 Hours of Sebring (IMSA has a great free channel on Roku now by the way), it struck me how often we hear of that elusive Golden Age of sports car racing. It s just as true in various car marque circles as it is in racing, or auto enthusiast circles in general. Yet, I think we re always in a Golden Age. Take right now as an example. Is turbo torque and power your thing? Well, you re in luck! There s a huge variety of offerings on the market, just waiting for that signature on the bottom line. From family haulers to sports cars and everything in between, getting your forced induction fix is easier now than it s been in a long time. What s that? No turbos for you, you want old school natural aspiration? You re in luck too! There are still some fire breathing V8s sitting new on dealer lots, and if you expand your search to some pre-owned vehicles, the world is your oyster (especially in the Porsche world). But what about the high tech folks? What do they have? Only the most serious hybrid and/or all electric vehicles the world has ever seen. And all that tech caries over to the inside as well. I personally can t think of a time when technology trickle down was occurring faster than it is today. Near entry level cars are even bringing impressive levels of tech to the masses. Yet, despite all the above, I don t think our times are particularly unique. Even in the dark days of the 1970s and 1980s when manufacturers were struggling with emissions controls, there were bright spots in the automotive world. Need proof? How many 911s of this area are sought after today? 914s? We ve not even touched on models that came later like the 928 and 944 and even the 924s are beginning to catch on again. And that s just one marque. There s definitely a lot of hand wrying in auto enthusiast circles over self driving cars and how they will spell the end for the automobile as anything more than a tool to get from point A to point B. Yet, I can imagine similar arguments were made any time a new disruptive idea came to the auto industry. From power steering to computer controls on engines and beyond - I think each one in some way was supposed to spell the end of the romantic era of the automobile but that s never happened. It s never happened in my view because while we enthusiasts sometimes resist change, we also won t let this hobby die. A car is more than bits of glass and rubber and steel - it s a bit of us in there as well. From the day we purchase it, to the day we sell it on to a new home. Lets not fret over what self driving tech may or may not do. Lets look to the future as we take a page from the past, and realize that our hobby is far from over. Most important, lets not let any of this affect our enjoyment of the age we are in today. PAGE 5
