2 A Message From The President Porsche has enjoyed great success with their GT cars and the beat goes on. The GT4 sellout in 2016 has led to a second generation GT4 for 2018 production. This version will remain a flat six but it expands its displacement from 3.8 L. to 4.0 (non-turbocharged). The 4 liter motor will be a detuned example of the GT3/GT3 RS motor that is expected to crank Word is that the new GT4 will offer 6-speed and PDK versions. Why do we need a 4.0 liter GT4? Rumor is the 781 Cayman S equipped with the tires from the current GT4 model can turn identical Nurburgring lap times as the present GT4. WHAT? Now that doesn t look good does it? A word of warning: Fall is finally here! Halloween has come and gone, the frost is on the pumpkins and my tires feel like bricks even though they reside inside a garage. I checked my tire pressures at sub-50 and found I was down 4 pounds of pressure in all four P-Zeroes. Achtung! Time to turn on my handy air pump (purchased from John Hudson s Garage Sale for $20 - thanks John!). Minutes later I was back up to a comfortable 30 pounds of bonejarring but not teeth-rattling discomfort. I don t even think of switching on the Sports Chrono at temps below 50. new members for PCA and our region. Speaking of member recruitment, do you have any of our PCA membership recruitment cards? Keep them in your glovebox or wallet/ purse. They will do no good left at home. Help our efforts to grow our club. You can always pick up some of these cards at a monthly meeting or drop me a note and I ll put a small stack in the mail to you. Thanks. We had one tour in October. Don Wirth led 13 us on the backroads from Lebanon to Gainesboro for a fun lunch at the Bull & Thistle. Don had a great route with some terrific twisties. We travelled two roads that I don t believe any of our group had been on before. If you can find Swindell Hollow Rd. or State Route 290 (runs between State Routes 53 and 56) you re in for a treat. Very nice driving for a Porsche. In October Musik-Stadt had a great turn-out for the last German Cars and Coffee of As usual MSK member showed up early for what will probably be the last C&C at The Factory at Franklin. A new venue is definitely needed if we continue to grow but I fear we ll miss The Factory and the seclusion it offers. While the great majority of Porsches on display belonged to MSK members we did have a couple of cars driven by folks who were not members. That s something we need to develop moving forward. Including non-pca members in the Cars & Coffee offers an excellent opportunity to recruit PAGE 2

3 Coming soon, Joe Questel is leading a weekend driving tour of the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky on November You re still welcome to come along but we may be oversubscribed on our special hotel rates at the Candlewood Suites in Lexington. Presently we have 11 cars confirmed for the tour. If you re interested make your own reservations at the Candlewood Suites at Our November meeting will be our annual New Member Mixer at Porsche of Nashville on November 14, 6:30 PM. 6 PCA Member Tested Member Approved By: JC Costarakis When it comes to cleaning any kind of automobile, taking care of the wheels is one of the most important things. Just imagine yourself; after washing your body but forgetting to clean your dirty and sweaty feet. Doesn t sound good, right? Today, you have the option of purchasing tire cleaners, wheel cleaners or a tire and wheel cleaner all-in-one. These products can help to bring out the shine of your rims, and remove imbedded dirt, dust, and other debris that can eventually cause permanent damage. As for the tires, the things that receive the most pressure and usage at all times. They, too, need heavy duty cleaning and hydration to avoid dry rotting. Though I know MOST Porsche owners usually do not let their wheels get caked-on, built-up brake dust on their wheels; some of us do (I am guilty because I HATE cleaning wheels!) And with that said, I searched long and hard to find the BEST wheel cleaner with minimum effort. Now to be honest, if you let your wheels build up with brake dust, you WILL have to do some scrubbing. NONE of the wheel cleaners I tested are a 100% touch free clean. Even the critically acclaimed cleaner, that so many members told me is the best to use, still was not the best! I wanted a cleaner to be the best with minimum effort to clean. To get the proper tire and rim cleaning process completed, you need the right tools. With the right tools, you ll be able to bring your rims back to their factory look and even keep your tires lasting a bit longer. Below I put together a list of the 7 best wheel cleaners and tire cleaners that can help you get a professional detailing job done. 7. Mothers Wheel and Tire Cleaner When it comes down to basic automotive detailing, you can t go wrong with Mothers products. This wheel and tire cleaner works for your vehicle s entire wheel, just use a simple brush to agitate the product and wash away. You are safe to use this cleaner on all factory/oem wheels and hub caps. Anything that may be painted over, clear coated, color coated, steel, modular or even chrome. Although this isn t a super heavy-duty product, in most cases where basic cleaning and detailing is involved... using the Mothers Wheel and Tire Cleaner will do just fine. 6. 3M Car Care Tire and Wheel Cleaner Although 3M is known for their adhesive products such as tape, they are also quite good at making products that can be used to clean and polish. In this instance, I have their Wheel and Tire Cleaner which comes in a simple 16oz spray bottle. For a go-to product that doesn t require any kind of diluting, this is one darn good wheel and tire cleaner. Using it with a soft bristle brush will help you remove brake dust, grass and grime right from the wheels. From there you simply need to wash it off with pressurized water and you ll have much betterlooking wheels than you did before. 5. Maguire s Hot Rims and Wheel Cleaner If you re at all familiar with Maguire s car care products (and you very well should be), you ll know nearly everything they make is of good quality. When it comes down to wheel cleaners, they make a few different products. In particular, I picked the Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner by Maguire. This is by far the least expensive product I found, and you get a whole 24oz of it. The easy to use spray bottle is great for go-to detailing/cleaning, targeting dirt, dust, grime, and grease from your wheels. Use a wheel brush to work the cleaner into the wheels then rinse off. Doing this for all 4 wheels will give you a finished product that makes the whole car look 2x better. It s worth mentioning that this isn t a super heavyduty product like some others I will mention below. However, if nothing too heavy is to be cleaned, I recommend getting at least 2 for less than 10 dollars. Two should last you for at least 5 full wheel cleaning sessions. PAGE 6

7 4. Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED PRODUCT that I mentioned earlier. This is a specialty detailing product that is to be used on even the most exotic vehicles, Sonar Wheel Cleaner Plus is just that. Designed to be acid-free and ph balanced, it s environmentally-friendly when being rinsed off. Break down embedded metals, brake dust, dirt, grime, and grease from your wheels and tires with total ease. Whether you have painted, anodized or cleaner coated wheels, you ll be able to safely apply this cleaner. Using a soft brush to work the cleaner into the dirt and grime, you ll see instant results after rinsing the product off. Compared to their previous cleaner, this one is about 30% stronger. 3. Chemical Guys Signature Wheel Cleaner When it comes to stylish products that are made for today s younger audience, Chemical Guys is one of the top companies. You ll recognize their products right away from the very slick labeling and YouTube videos. In this example, I have their Signature Series Wheel Cleaner. This product comes in a 16oz spray bottle, that is quite easy to use. As you d expect from a premium product like this, you ll be able to use it on premium wheels such as chrome, painted, polished, or even powder-coated. As you spray this product into the rims, you ll be able to work the cleaner into the wheels using a soft brush. From there, simply rinse off and see the difference it s that simple. You can dilute this product for various strengths, but right from the bottle will be its strongest form. Being an artificial chemical, you ll only smell a citrus scent which makes the using process a bit easier. Whether you are targeting brake dust, oxidation, grease or dirt you won t have a problem using this product. Whether you re using this during the summer or even winter, its will help to eliminate harmful salt and winter grime. Most people don t know just how corrosive road salt is to their vehicle, unless your vehicle is made of all plastic, rust can start to happen very fast. Unlike most other cheap products that can harm the environment, the CarGuys cleaner is made in the United States and is acid free, non-toxic, and ph balanced. 1. TriNova Wheel and Tire Cleaner From my list of the best wheel cleaner to get, the TriNova wheel and tire cleaner gel is by far the best one I found. Made 100% in the USA, it will without a doubt, remove unwanted grime, dirt, brake dust, grease and much more that can cling-on to your wheels and tires. In the event that you have stains on your wheels, this cleaner will fight them like OxiClean. With this product I used MINIMUM effort in brushing to clean off my wheels. And anyone who has seen my wheels when I don t clean them know my wheels get bad! While you can dilute this product from its original bottle, the factory mixture is the strongest, giving you the absolute best stain and dirt fighting power. Whether you have aluminum, chrome, white-wall tires and a whole bunch of other different types of wheels, this cleaner IS in fact safe to use for everything. Acid-free formula ensures there s no stains left behind on your previous wheels. Lastly, this cleaner is 100% non-toxic right from the factory. If you are doing any kind of professional detailing for Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, or any other high-end vehicle purposes, you can t go wrong with TriNova. 2. CarGuys Wheel and Tire Cleaner My #2 pick for the best wheel cleaner and tire cleaner, is the CarGuys All Type Wheel and Rim Cleaner. This product is definitely designed to be more than just your ordinary cleaner. You see, this product is 100% safe on chrome, aluminum, clearcoated, painted, polished and even plasti-dipped rims. 8 Octubberfest 2017 By: Mike and Shirley Moody This year s event presented by Martin Fogelmann in Huntsville AL was another great event! Martin, a member of Heart-of- Dixie PCA Region, started this event after the TN Tubbs annual car show was discontinued and I believe Martin said this was his seventh year of hosting. Shirley and I took our new used in Amaranith Red Metallic down and met several old friends and some new ones. Like the TN Tubbs event, the focus is on 356 Porsche s and there were about 10 at the event, but there was also lots of other Porsche s, other European brands including an MGA open top, and even American cars including a 67 split window Corvette. It was a fun event with brat s, class trophy s, door prizes, Apple Strudel, and of course the Porsche s to stare at. Martin also has quite a collection of Porsche s and other cars inside his barn (man cave). I won 3rd place in water-cooled, Nate Greene won a trophy for his 356 and of course Lee Fowler won a trophy for his beautiful 912. Shirley and I had a great time and plan to attend again next year.
