Porsche Club Of NSW Concours d Elegance Rules Wash and Polish Class Objective To recognise effort and skill in the preparation / preservation / restoration of a Porsche motor vehicle. Background to the Event The Concours is primarily a social event, run and manned by volunteers from PCNSW and approached in a professional manner. Concours judging is subjective by nature and is carried out on a best endeavours basis. PCNSW supports the rewarding of effort where it has been made in the presentation and preservation of Porsche vehicles. Venue Change to reflect the type of venue normally used by PCNSW Date A Sunday to be nominated usually during the month of October following the regular monthly club meeting Time Competitors will be advised of the time judging is to commence. This will be determined jointly by the Concours Director and or the current PCNSW Committee. Entries cannot be permitted for cars arriving after this time. Divisions This will be determined by the Concours Director and will largely be determined by the cars that are entered / present on the day. A separate class may be formed at the discretion of the Concours Director. In broad terms they will be: 356 Early 911 ( ) Small Bumper 911 ( ) Big Bumper
911 ( ) 964/ /944/ Boxster Cayenne Modified/Special Interest Porsches This category is open to all factory origin Porsche model types and would be judged to Full Concours Rules (refer below) The Concours Director may move a car between classes, after having spoken to the owner and explained the rationale. Once the car has been moved it cannot then be swapped back. Commencement of Judging Judging will commence at the time advised in pre-event marketing. The Concours Director will also announce this on the day. All preparation work will cease when the Concours Director announces that judging has commenced. All cleaning materials must have been removed from both the vehicle and the vicinity of the vehicle. When the Concours Director announces that judging has commenced, all competitors shall move away from the vicinity of their vehicles, and shall not approach their vehicle, nor approach any judge unless specifically requested to do so by a judge or the Concours Director. PENALTY for a continuous breach of this rule Disqualification from the event. Late arrival Entries cannot be permitted for cars arriving after the commencement of judging under any circumstances. Judging
A car or any part thereof may be re-judged at the discretion of the judges or the Concours Director Wash and polish cars will be judged in the following areas: Interior of cabin (not underneath carpets) Luggage compartment (not underneath carpets) Exterior. The intention with the wash and polish is to encourage more entrants and to encourage social interaction a social day out with a nice clean car to see how it stacks up in others minds against similar nice clean cars Basis of Judging Vehicles Wash and Polish Will be judged on the basis of preservation (originality) and preparation only. Will be judged, against one another, on the basis of Originality and Preparation in all of the detailed areas nominated in the scoring sheets. Originality in this instance is defined as - a) Is the vehicle completely as it was when it left the Porsche manufacturing plant? If so 100% of available Originality points apply. Exemptions will be made for safety equipment (such as seat belts) and anti-theft systems (alarms). For additional exemptions see below. b) Has the vehicle been modified significantly since manufacture if so the available Originality points will be reduced to reflect the significance of the modification in the specific area being judged. c) Cars converted from LHD to RHD will not be considered as an original example of the vehicle. These originality points will be lost in the luggage compartment, and in the interior in so far as it can be discerned that the car has been converted. Judging Teams
Will be resourced and allocated according to the needs of the day. The number and allocation will be at the Concours Director s discretion. Judges are not permitted to judge their own car or that of a relative. Repairs Repairs conforming to original factory specifications and standards for that model shall not be penalised. Optional Equipment Factory options available for a model will not be penalised if fitted to factory standards. Factory options not available for a model, if fitted shall be penalised as non-original, even if fitted to factory standards (for example a 3.3 Turbo whale tail on a 3 litre Turbo, RS flares and duck tail on a 2.2 or 2.4). Safety Equipment and Accessories Safety and statutory equipment and electronic accessories including registration plates, frames, labels, tyres, Porsche club badges and stickers, dealer stickers, e- tags, secondary bonnet restraints (for race cars), seat belts, fire extinguishers, roll cage, radio / tape decks, CD s, telephones and alarm systems are free except where they exhibit lack of preparation or cleanliness. This applies except where a difference between cars may come down to a defining difference. (eg. One has original style tyres and the other has not). Removable Tops Convertible tops, hardtops, targa tops and sunroofs shall be in position for judging. Sunroofs shall be closed. Sunroofs and tops shall not be removed or opened for judging. Failure to comply with the above will result in penalties which are restricted to the sunroof, targa top, hard top, cabriolet roof area. Scoring
Scoring shall be carried out on score sheets as agreed by the full committee of the PCNSW Scoring will be by the deduction of points from a theoretically perfect score derived from the total possible points available in each of the judging categories. Distance bonus points shall be awarded on the following basis: (1kilometre = miles) 0 to 5000 klms deduct 100 points klms add 1 point per 5000klms. (eg klms = 5 points) Over 30000klms add 5 points PLUS 1 point per 1000klms over 30000klm up to a maximum of 250 points. Age bonus points shall be awarded at the rate of 5 points per completed year since manufacture. In wash and polish age and mileage bonuses are only applied if it is impoosible to discern the winner from normal judging. It would be used a tie-breaker only. The Concours Director on the basis of the manufacturer plate affixed to the vehicle, or the Australian vehicle compliance plate shall determine the model year of manufacture. If neither of these is available some documentary evidence attesting to the age of the vehicle or such other evidence as is satisfactory to the Concours Director should be provided. Restorations Distance bonus points for fully restored cars shall be awarded only from the date of completion of the restoration. If an entrant does not provide satisfactory proof of the restoration completion date, the Concours Director shall make an assessment For restored cars aged bonus points shall be awarded at the rate of 2.5 points per completed year since manufacture. Restoration is the remanufacturing of a car back to new condition where: The body is stripped and repainted.
The interior is refitted. Mechanical and/or suspension components are replaced or remanufactured to new condition. Distance and age bonus points for partially restored cars shall be awarded on a prorata basis form the date of restoration of any of the three previously mentioned areas of the car. If the judges are not provided accurate information, or are suspicious of information provided the Concours Director shall make an assessment. If expert opinion is required the Concours Director is free to seek it. Completeness All cars should have their spare wheel, and tool kits available for inspection. An owners manual (or reproduction thereof) is also preferable. Missing areas, in areas to be judged for the class in question may be penalised. Travel If a registered vehicle is trailered to or in the vicinity of the Concours venue, a penalty of 50 points will be applied in the judging of the vehicle. Access Vehicle must be left unlocked to enable access for judging. Failure to observe these requirements will result in the deduction of all points of the areas concerned. Damage If a vehicle is damaged on its way to the concours (ie. In transit) the Concours Director needs to be advised. If the damage is legitimate and the vehicle is driveable, the Concours Director may make allowance for this in the judging. This waiver does not extend to fair wear and tear such as road grime and or stone damage, but it may cover grass and or sand brought into the interior by judging teams. Scoresheets
Scoresheets remain the property of PCNSW and will copies will be made available to competitors after the event to allow for improvements to be made to the vehicle prior to the next years Concours. Sample copies follow. Results Will be made available on the day of the competition ONLY where time and the availability of personnel enable final scores to be compiled and thoroughly checked. Results when posted will be final, no correspondence will be entered into by the either the event staff or the committee of PCNSW. Protests Protests may be lodged in the full Concours category only. Protests must be addressed to the Concours Committee within one week of the conclusion of the Concours and must be accompanied by specific details of the reason for the protest and accompanying evidence supporting the protest. Protests will not change the result of the Concours but will be used to improve the judging process in the next Concours. Unsportsmanslike behavior Like all other events presented by PCNSW the Concours de Elegance is arranged and run by a group of volunteers. Judging is completed on a subjective basis and is very much open to interpretation by the individual judges and the vehicle owners. If a competitor behaves in a manner that is deemed to be unsportsmanlike by the Director of the event and at least one Director of the PCNSW he may be excluded from the results of the event
