Pressure Clening Guidelines: The Dutile Iron Pipe Reserh ssoition pulishes the Instlltion Guide for Dutile Iron Pipe. The following lnguge omes from Chpter 7 of the Ferury 2012 edition of this doument: The use of pressure wshing to len the inside dimeter of ement-mortr-lined iron pipe is not reommended due to the possiility of dmge to the sel ot nd/or ement-mortr lining. The ggressiveness of the pressure wshing is dependent on wter pressure, trvel speed, wter jets, wter jet ngle to the lining, distne of the wter jets from the lining, dimeter of pipe, type of lining pplition, et. ny ttempt to do so is t the sole risk of the equipment opertor. STEP 2 pply non - petroleum se, non - toxi gsket lurint to pipe / fitting ends s well s inside nd outside of the gsket itself. STEP 3 Slip gsket over pipe / fitting end. The lip of the gsket must not overhng the pipe / fitting ends. STEP 4 lign seond grooved pipe / fitting end until it touhes the first. Slide gsket over the seond pipe / fitting, so it is entered etween the grooves. No portion of the gsket should extend into the grooves. ssemle oth housings over the gsket nd ssure the housing keys re fully engged into the grooves. Insert olts nd hnd tighten the nuts uniformly. STEP 5 STEP Be sure tht the housing is not pinhing the gsket fter hnd tightening the nuts, then uniformly tighten the nuts until the oupling housings re firmly together, metl to metl. Pge

Turn the gsket inside out nd slide the gsket ompletely over one of the pipe ends to redue the strething neessry to ple the gsket into position. Pull the two grooved pipes into ontt ligning the pipe ends nd lurite the gsket seling lips y pplying non-petroleum se, non - toxi gsket lurint. STEP 4 STEP 5 STEP Working your hnds round irumferene of pipe, flip gsket towrds the mting ends of two grooved pipes so tht the seling lips re ontting the pipe O.D. Position gsket entrlly etween the grooves of the two pipe ends. No portion of the gsket should extend into the grooves. Lurite exterior surfe of the gsket or interior gsket poket surfes of sting housings. Ple first housing over gsket on top side of the pipe to support the weight of the housing segment mking sure the housing keys re fully engged into the grooves. ssemle the djent housing with supplied olt nd nut, then rotte the seured housings y lning the weight of the housings on top of the pipe. STEP 7 STEP 8 ssemle the remining housings y following the proedure in step, mking sure the weight of the housings is lned on the top of the pipe. fter oupling is in ple with ll the required olts nd nuts, lterntely tighten the nuts uniformly until the oupling housings re firmly together, metl to metl. Some pplitions do not provide n dequte seling surfe. In these ses, metl flnge wsher must e inserted etween the F-4 flnge nd the omponent. Exmple: When joining ruer lined or ruer fed flnges or wfer vlves. When flnges, wfer hek vlves, et. hve lrger ore tht does not llow enough seling surfe or if the flnge fe hs n insert MIN. Chek pipe end for proper groove dimensions nd ssure tht pipe end is free of indenttions nd projetions whih would prevent proper seling of the Grooved Flnge dpter gsket. 2. Loosen the nut on the end of the lth olt (It should not e neessry to remove the nut ompletely). Swing the lth olt out of the slot. Open Grooved Flnge dpter nd ple round the grooved pipe end with the key setion fitting into the groove. The flnge gsket vity must fe the pipe end. 5. Streth the gsket round the pipe end nd press the gsket into the vity etween the pipe O.D. nd flnge. The gsket must e properly positioned s shown ove.. With gsket in ple, pply lurint to the exposed gsket lip whih will sel ginst the mting flnge. 3. Ple the lth olt k into the slotted hole. Tighten the nut until the flnge hlves mke omplete ontt with eh other. lterntely, the lth olt nut my e left without fully tightening so s to provide more spe for ese of gsket insertion. fter the gsket is properly positioned in the vity, tighten the nut for omplete ontt of flnge hlves mking sure tht there is no gsket pinh etween the two hlves. 7. Chek to ssure tht the mting flnge fe is hrd, flt nd smooth. The effetive seling re of the mting flnge (see tle, pge 4) must e free from gouges or deformities of ny type to ensure proper seling of the gsket. lign Grooved Flnge dpter holes with the mting flnge, pump, tnk, et.., olt holes nd insert stndrd flnge olts or studs (not supplied). NOTE: Mke sure tht the gsket lip is not ent kwrds or pinhed etween the two flnges. 4. Chek the gsket for ny deformtion or uts then lurite the entire surfe of the gsket nd the flnge gsket vity using nonpetroleum se, non - toxi gsket lurint. 8. Evenly tighten the nuts lterntely on opposite sides until flnge fes ontt firmly nd required torque is otined. Pge 10
