1 Slvent Filter What is a Slvent Trap, Slvent Recycler r Slvent Filter? It is a device attached t the end f a threaded barrel that cllects all f the slvent and debris as it is cleaned frm the barrel and ejected ut the end. It als cntains the "spray" assciated with brushes exiting the barrel. These may be cnfigured t allw fr filtering f used fluid. Slvent filters can be made frm a variety f items. The mst ppular trend is t cnvert a flashlight tube (usually a Maglite) r purchase a fabricated husing. Internal cmpnents are usually freeze plugs r machined cups. Why use a slvent filter? Different peple clean firearms differently. Sme chse t fld the barrel intrduce a generus amunt f cleaning fluid r slvent and then repeatedly run a wire brush thrugh t ensure all cntaminates and debris are remved. This actin can result in a mess as well as expelled fluid ending up n the grund. This results in a waste f usable fluid as well as an envirnmental cncern. A slvent filter allws fr the cllectin f fluid fr prper dispsal and can be cnverted int a recycler that will filter the expelled fluid allwing it t be re-used until it has lst its effectiveness. We d nt pretend t knw the mind f peple in any f these situatins; we just knw that nne f us all want the same things fr the same reasns. Why is the HIT Slvent Filter better? The HIT Slvent Filter/Recycler is a legitimate and fully functinal filter. It wrks as designed fr the purpses stated. This is a mdular system that filters the slvent as it passes thrugh a strainer and a series f increasingly finer mesh screens placed between the spacer caps. Larger debris and particles will be captured in the upper sectins allwing fr the cllectin f filtered slvent at the bttm. This allws the cllected slvent t be re-used repeatedly until it has lst its effectiveness. The slid end cap is designed t duble as a slvent cup fr further cleaning activities. It als has a M5 blind tapped hle t aid in string spare parts. A valve cap may be installed in the bttm f the device t aid in draining the slvent. A threaded cap plug may be installed t prevent spills between uses. The strainer and filter screens are supprted by washers r spacer caps that are intended t prevent deflectin and allw the slvent t flw thrugh t the lwer cmpartments fr cllectin at the bttm. These separatrs funnel the expelled fluid thrugh the center f the trap resulting in better perfrmance and the ability t better inspect the debris. When using tp caps r washers t prevent screen deflectin, care shuld be taken t ensure that the bre brush r swab des nt becme ldged when it exits the barrel. In rder t prevent this, we recmmend the fllwing minimum sizes:.22 bre brush and lwer M6 dme washer r 1/4 dme washer / spacer cap.30 bre brush and lwer M8 dme washer r 5/16 spacer cap 6.5mm bre brush and lwer M8 spacer cap 9mm bre brush and lwer 3/8 spacer cap.45 bre brush and lwer 7/16 spacer cap.453 bre brush and lwer ½ spacer cap Like any washer, ur Spacer Cap and washer sizes are based n the flat head screw used with these caps in ther applicatins. Disassembly fr cleaning r screen replacement is simple and efficient withut the need fr tls. Custmizatin The usable inside height is 162mm. Any cmbinatin f parts may be used prviding the verall stack height equals 162mm. Fr practical purpses, the fllwing stack height numbers may be used: Spacer Cap = 2mm stack height Size 5 spacer = 25mm stack height Size 3 spacer = 10mm stack height Size 2 spacer = 5mm stack height Wave spring = 1mm stack height Spacer caps may be swapped ut t change the size while using the same tube, end caps and spacers. Using the abve reference heights, individual filtratin stages may be shrtened r heightened and additinal spacer caps may be added in lieu f spacers in rder t gain additinal filtratin stages. Additinal spacers and spacer caps are available individually. Dry Strage Tube The HIT Slvent Filter/Recycler can be used as a multi-cmpartment dry strage tube with the additin f a secnd slid cap. Individual cmpartment length may be adjusted as desired based n the bject(s) t be stred. The spacer caps used as cmpartment separatrs can be used fr a stable surface t segregate parts while being used as dry strage. Switching between these tw functins is simple and quick withut the need fr tls. Cnverting Cnverting the HIT Slvent Filter / Recycler int a dry strage tube is accmplished by disassembling the internals, remving the strainer, remving the filter screens, remving the wave spring washer and reassembling the remaining internal cmpnents. In rder t maintain a tight fit f the internal cmpnents, spare parts are available. The threaded cap may be replaced with a spare slid cap r be plugged. Cnverting the HIT Slvent Filter / Recycler back t the cleaning functin is accmplished by disassembling the internals, re-inserting the cmpnents in their riginal cnfiguratin. The plug can be remved r the slid cap replaced with the threaded cap as applicable t allw prper munting.
