2 Befre First Use: Charge the battery fr 24hrs befre first use The battery is nt fully charged when shipped, even if the State f Charge (SOC) gauge shws full. Battery Capacity and State f Charge (SOC): Battery capacity will increase ver the first 50 charge cycles and then will begin t decrease gradually ver the remainder f the battery life. This is a characteristic f the battery chemistry. The SOC gauge will autmatically calibrate itself ver time t ensure it is accurate thrughut the life f the battery (i.e. thrughut the battery life a full SOC gauge will be shwn when the battery is fully charged, even thugh the capacity will gradually becme less than when the battery was new). Nte: The SOC gauge will take a few charge/discharge cycles t calibrate its initial SOC. Battery Discharging: End f Discharge: The Battery Management System (BMS) will autmatically turn the battery ff when the battery vltage falls belw a specified level. This is knwn as a Lw Vltage Cut Off (LVCO) and is a way the battery pack prtects itself frm being ver-discharged. If this happens, dn t regard it as a nuisance. It s helping yu t get maximum life frm yur batteries. A LVCO event will be shwn n the display by a flashing battery symbl n the LCD display. The BMS will allw tw LVCO s befre it will disable the electric prpulsin system. At that time, the battery must be charged befre the electric prpulsin system can be used again. Pedaling can be used if recharge is nt immediately pssible, and n damage will ccur frm this. Prtectin: The battery will prtect itself against ver current, shrt circuit, lw vltage (different than LVCO), and ver temperature faults. Yur E+ Battery Management System cnstantly and autmatically mnitrs fr these cnditins, and acts immediately and autmatically if any f them ccurs. These are imprtant, technical states, and if they ccur yu want t prmpt prtective actin t avid battery damage r unsafe peratin. Each f these faults will cause the battery t shutdwn, temprarily disabling the electric prpulsin system. The battery will reset the fault and perate nrmally nce the cause event is absent. Fr example, in the case f the ver temperature fault, the battery will reset the fault and perate nrmally after the battery has cled dwn belw a specified temperature. E+ Battery Care Guide Page 2 f 5

3 Battery Charging: Befre cnnecting the charger t a wall utlet, verify the input vltage switch in the crrect rientatin (preset t 115V fr USA). Input Vltage Switch T maximize the perfrmance and life f the battery, cnnect the battery t the charger whenever the bike is nt in use. It is OK t leave the charger cnnected t the battery indefinitely. Yur E+ charger and Battery Management System d nt allw vercharging yu are prtected against this autmatically. 4 Left LED Right LED Left LED Right LED Phase Functin Charger Pwer On Occurs when the charger is cnnected t a wall utlet and is turned n (n battery cnnected). Fault Occurs if there is an errr with the battery temperature signal. Fast Slw Initializatin Fast Charge Balance Charge Charge Cmplete (Trickle Charge) Occurs when the charger is first cnnected t the battery. This phase f the charging ensures: 1. The battery temperature is in a safe range 2. The battery vltage is in a safe range The charger will remain in this state until bth cnditins have been met. Occurs after the Initializatin Phase. The charger cmpletes mst f the battery charging during this phase. Occurs after the Fast Charge phase is cmplete. This phase is the mst imprtant ne fr maximizing the verall life f yur battery. The balance charge ensures the all 30 NiMH cells are evenly charged, thus preventing any ne cell frm being ver-discharged r ver-charged. Occurs after the Balance Charge phase. 5 Strage: Whenever pssible, leave the battery charger cnnected t the battery. If it is nt pssible t keep yur charger cnnected t the battery, stre the battery in a fully charged state and fully recharge the battery AT LEAST every 90 days. This is imprtant fr maximizing the life f yur E+ battery cells. We recmmend that yu charge yu battery at least nce every 30 days. Stre the battery in a cl, dry place between 32 F and 75 F. In general, the cler the envirnment within this range, the better it is fr the battery. Try nt t stre the bike utside this temperature range fr extended perids. In peratin, d nt be cncerned abut utside temperature. If it s cld utside, the battery will be warm frm use. If it s ht utside, the Battery Management System will autmatically prtect the battery against verheating (by triggering an ver temperature fault). E+ Battery Care Guide Page 5 f 5
