2 Imprtant ntes Read the installatin manual prir t starting wrk. The electrical kit shuld nly be installed by qualified persnnel. Cautin Discnnect the battery! Danger f damage t the vehicle s electrnic system. Data which are stred electrnically may get lst, this includes security cdes. Check there are any faults in the diagnstic system befre starting any wrk. Nte During installatin special attentin has t be paid t the fllwing pints: Cables must nt be pinched r damaged. All sealing elements have t be installed prperly. The scket gasket has t be psitined n the insulating sleeve and nt n the individual wires. Rute wiring s that it des nt chafe against the vehicle. D nt lay any cables near the exhaust system. Failure f a trailer light (als directin indicatr lamps, but nt back-up light r rear fg lamp) is indicated by the light failure mnitring system n the cmbinatin instrument. There is n additinal indicatr light (C2) fr mnitring the directin indicatrs n the trailer in the vehicle. When a trailer is used, the rear fg lamp f the tractin vehicle is deactivated. In the case f trailers withut rear fg lamp, a rear fg lamp has t be retrfitted. A scket adapter may nly be used in cnjunctin with a trailer. When the trailer is n lnger used, remve the scket adapter. Crrect trailer peratin has t be checked using a trailer r a test instrument with lad resistrs. Subject t technical alteratins! /07 VW Turan

4 Installing the electrical kit 1. Discnnect the negative battery terminal. 2. Remve the fllwing cverings and panels: In the luggage trunk - Cvering f luggage trunk bttm - Lading edge cvering - Cvering f the left side f the luggage trunk On the right-hand side f the vehicle - Entrance panel at dr n driver's side - Cvering n the left and right f the steering clumn In the engine cmpartment (ptinal) - Cvering f central electrical system - Remve the air filter husing - Remve the battery, the battery hlder and the air filter 3. Remve the vehicle s 40 mm hle cver in the side plate n the left-hand side at the rear f the vehicle (Fig. 1/7). 4. Fasten the trailer cnnectin unit in its intended place in the vehicle s rear area n the left side using the supplied fastening screws, washers and nuts (Fig. 1/6). 5. Lay the cable end with the 16-pin plug frm the utside thrugh the cable leadthrugh t the trailer cnnectin unit (Fig. 1/6). Lay the ther end t the scket hlder plate (Fig. 1/5). 6. Insert the rubber grmmet int the cable leadthrugh (Fig. 1/7). Installing the scket 7. Press the cntact insert int the scket husing and push the rubber grmmet twards the scket. 8. Screw the scket nt the hlding plate (Fig. 1/5) using the supplied screws. Cnnecting the trailer cnnectin unit 9. Insert the 16-fld cnnectr husing int the intended slt f the trailer cnnectin unit (Fig. 1/6) and let it lck int place. 10. Insert the 12-fld cnnectr husing f the eight-cre cable set int the intended slt f the trailer cnnectin unit (Fig. 1/6) and let it lck int place /07 VW Turan

5 Installing the electrical kit 11. Cnnect the brwn wires with the eyelets t the vehicle s grund pint (Fig. 1/4). 12. Rute the 8-cre cable set acrss frm left t right alng existing cable lms / cable ducts n the driver's side up t the cntrl unit fr the vehicle electrical system in the driver's ftwell (Fig. 1/2). 13. Push pen the red latch n the netwrk cntrl unit. Unplug the black 12-pin plug (prt G) and pen the latch. Unlck the fllwing wires and insert them int the black 3-pin scket husing prvided n the cable set: - The range/brwn wire frm cmpartment 7 int cmpartment 1. - The range/green wire frm cmpartment 8 int cmpartment Insert the individual range/brwn and range/green wires f the cable set int the nw free cmpartments 7 and 8 f the 12-pin plug as indicated by the clurs. 15. Clse the latch, plug the plug back int the netwrk cntrl unit and push the latch n the netwrk cntrl unit shut. 16. Pull ut the black 16-pin plug (scket E) frm the netwrk cntrl unit and pen the catch. Release the wire frm chamber 2 and insert int chamber 2 f the 3-pin white scket husing n the cable set: 17. Insert the black/red wire frm the cable set int the freed chamber 2 f the 16-pin plug. Clse catch. 18. Re-cnnect plug t the vehicle electrical cntrl system. 19. In each case, plug the pen 3-pin black and white husings tgether. 20. Push pen the purple latch n the fuse carrier (Fig. 1/3). 21. Insert the fllwing wires int the fuse-prtected side f the fuse cmpartment. - black/blue wire int chamber 2 ( MY 2005), int chamber 13 (MY 2006 ). - red/black wire int chamber 40 - red/blue wire int chamber If the riginal fuse psitins are t be used and are nt equipped with terminal 30 n the vehicle, the supplied cable adapter has t be installed. Otherwise cntinue with step Plug the triple cntact int the input side f slts f the fuse carrier. 24. Lay the cable end with the cable lug thrugh a suitable pening in the munting plate bush t the cnstant plus distributr (Fig. 1/1) f the central electrical system in the engine cmpartment. Nte Seal the new leadthrugh in the munting plate bush t prevent any ingress f humidity. 25. Insert the supplied M5 x 13 hexagn head blt int the grve belw the cnstant plus distributr and let it lck int place. 26. Screw n the supplied 50 A fuse link tgether with the supplied lck washer and the nut and the cable lug f the red cable laid t this place (recmmended trque: 4.5 Nm). VW Turan /07 5

6 27. Insert the prvided fuses as fllws: - 15 A fuses int sckets 40 and 41 r the alternative psitins f the fuse hlder. - 5 A fuse int scket 2 ( MY 2005), in scket 13 (MY 2006 ). Clse latch n the fuse carrier. 29. Using the 3-pin cnnectr fr the cnstant plus extensin kit, the functins "Cnstant plus", "Charge lead" and "Grund fr charge lead" can be retrfitted. Checking crrect peratin 30. Recnnect the grund f the vehicle s battery. 31. The factry-fitted Gateway must be cded fr functin extensin 'twing hitch' using the V.A.G. service tester as fllws Diagnsis interface fr data bus - Read/write lng cding - 69 Trailer functin (cde) 32. >>MY2007: Adapting the PDC ffset value n vehicles equipped with parking distance cntrl: Address wrd 76 (Parking distance cntrl) Adaptatin Channel cm (Guideline value: 11 cm) 33. 7 34. Fr vehicles frm mdel year 2006 nwards (frm ), which are fitted with a cntrl unit in the factry which supprts the trailer stabilisatin system, this functin must be activated. T d s, adjust the ABS-cntrl unit -J104 with the selected diagnstics as fllws: Selected diagnstics Select vehicle > Cntinue (vehicle system test) > Cntinue With 'Jump'' t 'Functin-cmpnent selectin'' Suspensin Break system 01 - Self-diagnsis-capable systems Anti-blcking system Functins Adjustment - J104 with trailer stabilisatin system Cntinue t fllw the menu instructins If this adjustment ptin is nt listed in the cntrl unit menu, the trailer stabilisatin system is nt supprted by the cntrl unit installed. 35. When using a trailer, the vehicle s central fuse, relay and terminal bx must cded as fllws t deactivate the rear fg lamp: Select vehicle system: 09 Central electrnic fuse, relay and terminal bx Identificatin: Cntinue Select diagnstic functin: 007 Cding (Technical Supprt 1A) Select vehicle system: Electrical system cntrl unit Cding lang Change cding value: Byte 8 bit character set x1xxxxxx (x: enter the current values in the input field), and switch t input mde [BIN]. 36. Check the trailer functin with the help f a suitable test instrument (with lad resistrs) r with the help f a trailer. 37. Secure all cables using cable ties. 38.
