3 MUDKIG BUTTERFLY VALVE DESIG FEATURES - - Flatted Upper Stem Large Tp Flange Brnze Bearings Blwut Prf Stems MSS Marking Triple Stem Seals FLAGE SEALS The inner surface f the seat is widened t prject utside the face-t-face width f the valve bdy. When munted between weld neck r scket flanges, the extra rubber is cmpressed t frm a psitive seal against bth flanges. The seal surface, near the uter periphery f each seat face is designed t seal against slip-n r threaded flanges. Only valves with thrttling discs High Flw Disc Cartridge Seat BODY Psitively Oriented Disc One Piece Ribbed Bdy One piece bdies are ribbed t assure high strength and minimum weight. Bdies are cast in bth wafer and tapped-lug patterns, in a wide variety f material chices, t meet virtually every installatin requirement. Bdy rating is ASI Class 50 (5 psi nn-shck). Wafer bdy diameters are designed t self-center in ASI 50 flange patterns. The large tp flange prvides a secure munting area DISC MK Butterfly Valve discs are seat are cnfigured fr lw pressure drp and high flw cefficients. Full radius plished edges slide int drp tight seat engagement with little turning effrt. SEAT The MK Butterfly Valve seat is cnstructed by bnding a resilient elastmer t a rigid back-up ring, which frms the utside periphery f the seat. Slip fitted in the valve bdy, the seat is field replaceable withut special tls. In the clsed psitin, the disc rim and stem seal lands frm an uninterrupted line f sealing cntact with the resilient seat, t assure drp tight sealing at rated shutff pressure. MKP seats is ffered in a wide range f materials. DISC DRIVE Prper - rientatin f the stem/disc cnnectin is assuerd by the rectangular drive. The disc is permitted t flat n the stem t perfectly center in the valve seat. STEMS Upper stems are flatted fr psitive drive and fr easy installatin f handles and actuatrs. Retained by tangential pins, upper and lwer stems are blwut prf fr safety when handles r actuatrs are remved frm the valve tp. STEM JOURAL Tw self-lubricating brnze bearings reduce trsinal frictin, eliminate galling and seizing f the stem, while supprting the stem against side lading frm pressure n the clsed disc. MK places ne bearing at the base f STEM SEALS The stem hles in the disc are surrunded by an annular raised land which passes the seat nt the seat flat at every angular psitin f the disc. The resilient seat presses back with a higher specific frce than the line pressure, preventing leakage t the stem. In cmpetitive stem seal designs with bt seats, a seal is accmplished by an interference squeezing n the stem, r an -ring in the stem jurnal. The ptential fr leakage behind the seat is high. As the disc wipes the seat, elngatin f the stem seal area allws leakage t cllect behind the seat. This cnditin is eliminate by MKP dry stem jurnal and hard-backed seat. Page

Hwever, 5 psi shutff is ptinally available fr higher pressure applicatins. Fr smaller actuatr sizing, 50 psi valves ffer reduced trque. Fr minimum trque, thrttling valves, which d nt prvide drp tight clsure, are avaliable. ACTUATIO Psitive latch handles, wrm gear peratrs and autmatic actuatrs are available and ttally inter-changeable n the MKP valve. The MKP t flange dimensinally cmpatible with ther cmpetitive butterfly valves. With ptinal utility tp stem, the MKP valve interchange directly with cmpetitive valves, allwing valve replacement withut the need fr new actuatin. ED-OF-LIE SERVICE Lug bdy valves may be used in end-f-line service, with dwnstream piping remved. (Weld neck r scket flanges, nly, can be used fr this service). Since upstream pressure is excluded between the flange seal, there is n effective frce t slide the seat dwnstream. MKP Lug Butterfly Valves are recmmended fr liquid service up t 00 psi with dwnstream piping remved. Lug bdy valves are recmmended fr islatin f pumps, cntrl devices r ther system cmpnents which may need t be remved fr repair r replacement. Lug valves are als suitable fr installatin at pints frm which piping expansins may prceed. Such valves are nrmally blanked with blind flanges, t prtect the expsed seats, until new piping is attached. ISTALLATIO AD MAITEACE MKP Butterfly Valves are bi-directinal, with identical flw-way frm either face. T install, simply clse the valve, insert between flanges and make up with studs r cap screws. regular maintenance r lubricatin is ever required. Disassembly is simple, fr inspectin r replacement f parts. Open the valve, remve handle r actuatr, remve tangential pins, pull ut stems and push the disc and seat ut f the bdy. Reassemble in reverse rder, with a small amunt f general purpse nn-hydrcarbn based lubricant n the utside f stems, seat and disc flats.
