In a dynamic cnditin, there is pressure n the back side f the pistn (dependent upn the plumbing and valving used in the system) which must be vercme in additin t mving a lad. These factrs, cupled with the cmpressibility f air and cylinder frictin, result in dynamic thrust being a percentage f static thrust. This graph assumes average cnditins relative t air line sizes, system layut, cm pnent sizes, frictin, etc. The resulting dynamic thrust is apprximately % f crrespnding static values. CAUTION The frce f deceleratin, especially if a large mass is attached t the carriage, shuld be cnsidered when calculating lads t be carried by the rdless cylinder. A large mass, in cnjunctin with a high deceleratin frce, can cause damage t the cylinder and/r the lss f cntrl f the lad. Either can result in equipment damage and danger t nearby persnnel. High deceleratin frces may ccur, but are nt limited t the initial set-up f a machine. T minimize the ptential danger, the fllwing steps are suggested in additin t nrmal set-up prcedures. A. The rdless cylinder shuld be plumbed with flw cntrls in a meter ut mde.. 1. Open the cushin needle valve adjustment screw 1/4 f a turn frm cmpletely clsed. 2. Open the flw cntrl valves 1/2 f a turn frm cmpletely clsed. C. Cycle the cylinder. D. T adjust the speed f the cylinder, slwly pen the flw cntrl valves. T adjust the cushin, slwly adjust the cushin needle valve screw. E. 8 Supprts lacing f Supprts A main advantage f the arker air cylinder is its ability t act as its wn supprt member as it spans the length f the carriage travel. The cylinder bdy des nt require supprt ver its entire strke. In the example belw, a cylinder with an end t end dimensin f d, and with a lad can span a distance f d with n intermediate supprt required.
