1 June 0 Sheet 0 Metal-Enclosed Swtchgear MEB & MSB Medum Voltage Swtch and Fxed Mounted Vacuum s (MSB) General Descrpton.- MSB Metal-Enclosed Swtch and Vacuum General Descrpton Eaton s Cutler-Hammer assembly desgnated MSB (Metal-Enclosed Swtch and ) conssts of a load nterrupter swtch (Type MVS) n seres wth a vacuum crcut breaker (Type VCP-TR for kv) n a metalenclosed cabnet. Ths combnaton has been desgned prmarly where a vacuum crcut breaker s requred for ts hgher nterruptng capacty and a swtch s requred to provde a vsble means of dsconnect. As prmary protecton for sngle-ended substatons, t can elmnate the need for a secondary man breaker. It can also be appled as the prmary man devce and ntegrated wth fused feeder swtches n a lneup of fused MVS swtchgear. Two and three breaker automatc transfer schemes are also avalable. Wth the vacuum crcut breaker, Type MSB swtchgear s classfed as an overcurrent protectve devce that provdes ncreased system protecton and ncreased coordnaton wth upstream and downstream devces where these benefts cannot be acheved wth a swtch and fuse combnaton. Vacuum crcut breakers provde the followng features: Hgh Interruptng Capacty sutable for use wth Ground Fault Equpment and Dfferental Relay Schemes. Load Break Swtch provdng vsble means of dsconnect wthout openng the door. Hgh duty cycle. Adjustable overcurrent protecton. Expanded protectve relay functons, such as those provded n the FP-000 (refer to Secton ). Three-phase trppng; no sngle phasng on trppng. Mantanable. Long equpment lfe. Specal applcatons, such as capactor swtchng possble wth breakers. Cutler-Hammer Type MSB swtchgear provdes the smallest footprnt utlzng vacuum breaker technology where the breaker ratng does not exceed 00 amperes contnuous and the nterruptng ratngs shown. All protectve devces and meterng are convenently mounted on the swtchgear structure door. The VCP-TR vacuum breaker s a fully rated two-step stored energy crcut breaker wth an open-close-open duty cycle. It s rated n constant ka nterruptng ratngs at all voltages from. kv to kv and has a front access mechansm. The vacuum crcut breakers have been desgned wth a patented flex current transfer system that provdes a unque non-sldng current transfer arrangement, no mantenance, excellent electrcal and thermal transfer, and long vacuum nterrupter lfe. Vsble dsconnect means s ensured by the load break ar nterrupter swtch and vewng wndow. Both ndoor and outdoor non-walk-n enclosures are avalable. Applcatons are sngle unts, lneups and transformer prmary applcatons. Confguratons wth an automatc transfer control system can be accommodated easly. Fxed vacuum breakers are deal for hgh duty cycle, as well as applcatons requrng rapd return to servce after a load fault. Type MSB swtchgear s the product of choce for ground fault nterrupton when ar nterrupters alone would be potentally hazardous f called on to operate above ther assgned ratngs. Capactor swtchng s easly handled by MSB avodng the restrke hazard presented by ar swtches. Standardzed desgns cover most applcatons whle custom desgns are also avalable for unusual requrements. Type MSB swtchgear assembles are avalable sesmcally labeled to meet the sesmc Zone requrements of ether IBC (Internatonal Buldng Code) or Calforna Buldng Code Ttle or BOCA (Buldng Offcals and Code Admnstraton Internatonal, Inc.). Type MSB vacuum swtchgear meets or exceeds the followng ndustry standards: ANSI/IEEE C.. ANSI/IEEE C.. ANSI C. ANSI C. ANSI C. NEMA SG NEMA SG CSA. No. -M EEMAC G-. Refer to MVS Secton. MVS swtch sectons are easly mxed wth MSB sectons n lneups. No bus transtons are requred between them except where bus runs from top to bottom locatons, such as between man and feeder sectons. The Vacuum Crcut s easly accessble for routne nspecton and mantenance. User-frendly, front panel controls and ndcators are functonally grouped together for easy operaton and nclude: contact poston ndcator, closng sprng status, close and trp button, operaton counter, and crcut breaker latch (located at the bottom of the control panel). It dffers n the addton of the fxed mounted Cutler- Hammer VCP-TR ( kv) vacuum breaker n place of fuses. Current and voltage transformers assocated wth protecton devces such as the DT-000 or FP-000 electronc protectve relays are appled usng the same ratngs as drawout metal-clad swtchgear. Devces are mounted on the sngle front hnged door. The front door may be opened at any tme to provde access to low voltage components and the front of the crcut breaker wthout beng exposed to hgh voltage. The Cutler-Hammer IQ famly of electronc meters s normally used when meterng functons are requred. The crcut breaker s bolted nto poston but can be unbolted and removed from the enclosure. Routne mantenance can be performed on the crcut breaker mechansm n the enclosure. Standard breaker and swtch nsulators are NEMA rated glass polyester or optonal epoxy. Control power wll be requred as detaled below. The ac can be suppled ntegrally f specfed. The dc control power, f requred, must be furnshed by others. If ac control power s used, a capactor trp devce s provded. A Cutler- Hammer protectve relay provdes fault protecton f ac control power s lost elmnatng the need for an unnterruptble power source for contnuous fault current protecton. Once the crcut breaker s closed and the closng sprng s recharged, the breaker can open, close and open wthout sprng recharge.
