Applcaton Descrpton AMPGARD control has a complete metal-enclosed offerng: Full and reduced voltage startng of medum voltage motors up to 000 hp Man breaker metal-enclosed swtchgear, a smaller footprnt, sngle ntegrated assembly drect coupled to the AMPGARD control Integral LBS loadbreak swtches avalable as man, te or feeder. The LBS can be suppled as fused or un-fused Adjustable frequency drves (SC 000 ) up to 0V, 000 hp Features, Benefts and Functons Personnel safety: Postve mechancal solatng swtch wth vsble dsconnect completely grounds and solates the starter from the lne connectors wth a mechancally drven solatng shutter, leavng no exposed hgh voltage. Medum voltage door s mechancally locked closed wth the dsconnect; low voltage secton has separate door and s segregated from the medum voltage secton. Ease of nstallaton: Current lmtng fuses, contactor assembly and solatng swtch assembly are easly removed from the enclosure; lne and load termnals are completely accessble from the front. Ease of mantenance: All components are front accessble, facltatng routne nspecton and/or parts replacement. The low voltage compartment s panted whte as standard to maxmze servceablty. Smplcty of desgn: Componentto-component desgn elmnates half of the electrcal connectons. Tme-proven contactor technology: Three vacuum contactor ratngs are used, 00A and 00A. kv and 0A kv. 00A. kv contactors are avalable as stab-n or bolt-n desgn. 00A. kv and 0A kv contactors are avalable as stab-n desgn only. Hgh degree of solaton: Man bus s located n separate compartment on top of lneup. Vertcal bus s barrered n rear of starter and auxlary compartments. Load cables are solated from adjacent starter n two-hgh sectons. A vertcal low voltage wreway s provded for solaton of customer control wrng. The low voltage control compartment s solated from medum voltage by steel barrers. Starter catalog types are avalable for the followng applcatons: Squrrel cage, full voltage (reversng and non-reversng) Squrrel cage, prmary reactor Squrrel cage, autotransformer Sold-state reduced voltage Synchronous full voltage Synchronous prmary reactor Synchronous auto-transformer (reversng and non-reversng) Two-speed, two wndng Two-speed, one wndng Enclosures AMPGARD products are avalable n NEMA general purpose enclosures as standard. NEMA (dust tght), NEMA R (outdoor) and arc-resstant enclosures are avalable optons for most products. Contact the factory for exceptons. Enclosure type affects the maxmum contnuous current ratng AMPGARD Man Breaker AMPGARD SC 000 0V, 00 hp AFD of the starters n the enclosure. Refer to Table 0.0- on Page 0.0- for specfc ratngs for each enclosure type. Arc-Resstant AMPGARD When specfed, AMPGARD s avalable n specal arc-resstant constructon. Two ratngs are avalable, 0 ka and 0 ka. Both desgns have been tested and verfed to meet the requrements of IEEE C.0. for Type B constructon. Type B constructon s defned as arc-resstant at front, back and sdes of the enclosure wth the low voltage compartment door open. Most types of 00A and 00A starters, as well as -nch (0 mm) wde ncomng cable sectons are avalable n arc-resstant constructon. A common plenum desgn to close couple to Eaton arc-resstant swtchgear s also avalable. Consult factory for ratngs on ths desgn. Man breaker AMPGARD, SC 000 AFD, LBS load break swtches are not avalable n arc-resstant constructon. Due to the specfc nature of arc-resstant testng, no modfcatons may be made to the enclosure whle mantanng the arc-resstant ratng. Consult Eaton for more detals. Personnel Safety Features One of the most mportant consderatons n desgnng the AMPGARD starter was personnel safety. The result s an extensve system of nterlocks and other safety features. Interlocks Interlockng on AMPGARD starters ncludes: Isolatng swtch mechansm locks the medum voltage door closed when the swtch s n the ON poston Provson for optonal key nterlocks When door s open, nterlock prevents operatng handle from beng moved nadvertently to ON poston When contactor s energzed, solatng swtch cannot be opened or closed MVS -Hgh FVNR For more nformaton, vst: CA0000E

These features nclude: Provson for a padlock on the solatng swtch handle n OFF poston Shutter barrer between lne termnals and solaton swtch stabs s mechancally drven Dstnctve markng on back of swtch assembly appears when shutter barrer s n poston and starter s completely solated from the lne Groundng clps provde a postve groundng of the starter and man fuses when the solatng swtch s opened Hgh and low voltage crcuts are compartmentalzed and solated from each other The drawout solaton swtch s easly removed by loosenng two bolts n the back of the swtch. The shutter remans n place when the swtch s wthdrawn A remote operator for the starter solaton swtch s an avalable opton. The AMPGARD Remote Operator (ARO) enables users to open or close the swtch through the use of a pushbutton staton operated up to 0 feet away from the starter. Users can mount the ARO on the front of the starter, plug t nto any avalable 0 Vac source, then easly operate the solaton swtch from outsde the starter arc flash boundary. Mechancal Non-Loadbreak Isolatng Swtch Isolaton Swtch Auxlary Contacts Optonal Blown Fuse Indcator Contacts Control Plug JMT-00/00A Isolaton Swtch Front Vew Lne Sde Connectons Lne Sde Access Panel (Removable From Front) JMT-00/00A Isolaton Swtch Rear Vew Isolaton Swtch Swtch Operatng Arm Eaton s Type JMT-/ and JMT- are each a drawout, lghtweght, three-pole, manually operated solatng swtch mounted n the top of the starter enclosure. They may be easly removed by loosenng two bolts n the rear of the swtch. The JMT- s rated 00A contnuous whle the JMT- s rated 00A contnuous. The JMT- s rated 0A contnuous at kv. All solaton swtches have a mechancal lfe ratng of 0,000 operatons. The component-to-component crcutry concept ncludes the mountngs for the current lmtng fuses as part of the solatng swtch. Features A postve mechancal nterlock between the solatng swtch handle mechansm and contactor prevents the solatng swtch from beng opened when the contactor s closed or from beng closed f the contactor s closed. An operatng lever n the solatng swtch handle mechansm s desgned to shear off f the operator uses too much force n tryng to open the non-loadbreak solatng swtch when the contactor s closed. Ths feature ensures that the operator cannot open the swtch wth the man contactor closed, even f excessve force s used on the operatng handle. To operate the solatng swtch, the operatng handle s moved through a 0º vertcal arc from the ON to the OFF poston. In the ON poston, an operator on the back of the handle housng extends through a bracket on the rear of the starter hgh voltage door, preventng the door from beng opened wth the swtch closed. When the hgh voltage door s open, a door nterlock prevents the handle from beng nadvertently returned to the ON poston. When the operatng handle s moved from ON to OFF, copper stabs are wthdrawn from ncomng lne fngers. As the stabs wthdraw, they are vsble above the top of the fuses when vewed from the front, and smultaneously grounded. As the fngers are wthdrawn, a sprng-drven solatng shutter moves across the back barrer to prevent front access to the lne connectons. 4 0.0- Motor Control (AMPGARD)Medum Voltage General Descrpton June 0 Sheet A,. kv Vacuum Contactor, Type SL 00A Bolt-n Contactor 00 Volt Maxmum General Descrpton Eaton s Type SL Vacuum Contactors were desgned and engneered specfcally for use n AMPGARD starters.. kv SL 00A Vacuum Contactors are self-supportng, compact, drawout, three-pole, DC magnet closed contactors. To permt applcaton matchng of the starter to the motor ratng, the SL Contactor s avalable n 00A standard and hgh nterruptng ratngs. SL Contactors are avalable n the standard bolt-n confguraton and optonal stab-n desgn. Ether bolt-n or stab-n desgns can be suppled n a two-hgh confguraton, wth a starter maxmum of 00 full load amperes. The total NEMA structure ratng cannot exceed 0A for a combnaton of two starters. Refer to Table 0.0- on Page 0.0- for other ratngs. Desgn Eaton Vacuum Contactors are hghly versatle, low-chop contactors that have been desgned to meet all applcable NEMA standards and are UL recognzed components. The contactors accommodate mechancal nterlocks that functon wth the starter solaton swtch and wth other contactors. These nterlocks provde unmatched safety and servce protecton. The contactors consst of a molded frame wth movng armature, magnet and vacuum nterrupters. The contactor s easly postoned nto the starter and long-lfe vacuum nterrupters provde many operatons wth a mnmal mantenance program. The SL operatng cols are energzed by a control board that provdes a pulsewdth-modulated DC output. Control voltages and contactor dropout tmes are programmed usng a DIP swtch located on the control board. The control board s mounted n a protected cavty n the molded contactor frame to prevent nadvertent access to the voltage and dropout DIP swtch. Four auxlary contacts (NO, NC) are suppled wth each contactor and are wred to termnal blocks on the starter control panel. The vacuum nterrupters employ specal man contact materals that exhbt a low chop current plus other specally engneered characterstcs that mnmze swtchng surges. Surge protecton s therefore not requred due to the use of the vacuum contactor. Surge protecton may be requred for other reasons such as the hgh probablty of lghtnng strke, etc. Mantenance Reduced mantenance s one of the outstandng features of Eaton s Vacuum Contactor lne. The specal contact materal n the vacuum nterrupters provdes long lfe even under severe operatng condtons. The man cols operate wth a very low temperature rse to maxmze nsulaton lfe. Steel bearngs on the man shaft provde long, troublefree operaton. A smple go/no-go gauge s used for checkng contact wear. Wear can be checked wthout removng the contactor from the starter. The vacuum contactor s much lghter than prevous generaton arbreak or vacuum contactors, whch allows for easer nserton and removal from the starter structure. The contactor s mounted on wheels and rolls nto the AMPGARD structure on steel rals. Bolted bus bars connect the contactor lne and load termnals to the power components n the starter cell. A three-phase current transformer, three-phase potental transformer and ground fault current transformer are mounted n the cell when requred. A plug on the sde of the contactor connects the contactor to the low voltage control panel. The contactor s easly wthdrawn from the structure by removng the sx bolts securng the contactor lne and load termnals, and the pn connectng the solatng swtch nterlock arm. The contactor can be removed from the starter wthout dsconnectng any medum voltage cables. 00A,. kv Stab-n A stab-n verson of the SL Contactor s an avalable opton. The stab-n contactor s mounted on wheels and rolls nto the AMPGARD structure. Contactor lne and load fngers engage cell-mounted stabs as the contactor s nserted nto the starter cell. The contactor s held n poston by a bolt and bracket combnaton. It can be easly wthdrawn from the starter cell by removng the bolt holdng the contactor aganst the bracket and dsconnectng the solaton swtch nterlock. The contactor can be removed from the starter wthout dsconnectng any medum voltage cables. Roll-out Wheels Self-Algnng Contactor Lne and Load Fngers 00A Stab-n Contactor 00V Maxmum wth Mechancal Interlock 00A,. kv Vacuum Contactors The 00A SL Contactor s avalable n a one-hgh confguraton and s rated at 0A enclosed. The 00A contactor s mounted on wheels and has smlar features to the stab-n 00A contactor. 00A Vacuum Break Contactor 00V Maxmum Stab-n wth Wheels, and Lne and Load Fngers 0A, kv Stab-n Contactor The 0A kv SL Contactor s avalable n a one-hgh confguraton and s rated at 0A enclosed. The 0A contactor s avalable wth a stab-n type connecton only. The 0A contactor s mounted on wheels and has smlar features to the 00A. kv contactor. Whle the contactor s rated at 0A enclosed, the maxmum starter current s 00 full load amperes due to the maxmum avalable fuse sze. 0A Stab-n Contactor kv Maxmum Current Lmtng Fuses. kv AMPGARD starters use Eaton s Type CLS power fuses wth specal tme/current characterstcs for motor servce. Type CLE or Type HLE power fuses are appled wth the kv starter or when the. kv starter s used to feed a transformer. The fuse s coordnated wth the contactor and overload relay characterstcs to provde maxmum motor/transformer utlzaton and protecton. The standard mountng method for power fuses s bolted wth an opton for fuse clps n the 00A starter. 00A. kv and 0A kv fuses are suppled as bolted only. Interrupton s accomplshed wthout expulson of gases, nose or movng parts. Type CLS/CLE/HLE fuses are mounted n a vertcal poston to ensure maxmum ratng relablty, proper operaton and to elmnate the possblty of dust and drt collectng, resultng n a deteroraton of delectrc propertes. When a fault has been cleared, a plastc ndcator n the top of the fuse, normally depressed, pops up to gve vsble blown fuse ndcaton. Ths ndcator also operates the optonal blown fuse mechansm (avalable wth bolted. kv fuses only) on the solaton swtch that gves a contact closure to allow use n the starter control crcut. The AMPGARD man bus s mounted n ts own -nch (0 mm) hgh top-mounted enclosure, whch solates t from the starter. The connecton from the man bus to the starter s done wth rgd vertcal bus. Insulated barrers are provded for separate top entry of power and control cables. The man bus s top, sde and front accessble, whch allows for ease of mantenance or extenson of lneup wthout dsassemblng the starters. Man bus s avalable for 000, 00, 000 and 000A. Man bus s unnsulated as standard. Fully nsulated bus s an avalable opton for up to. kv starters and s standard on kv starters. Bus may be suppled wth ether tn or slver platng. Crossover bus, busway entry, and pull boxes are not avalable for the 000A desgn (000A bus duct provsons are avalable wth the Man Breaker AMPGARD, see Page 0.0-). The standard bus short crcut ratng s 0 ka per NEMA standards and s based on the let-through current of the largest fuse used n any starter. An optonal 0 ka, -second bus ratng s avalable for customers that requre a hgher ratng for the man bus. Medum Voltage Condut Area (Upper Starter) Vertcal Bus Vertcal bus s located behnd a fxed barrer n the rear of the enclosure. It s fully nsulated as standard, wth platng to match that of the man bus. Standards and Certfcatons UL, CSA and IEC Certfcaton AMPGARD starters are desgned, assembled and tested to meet all applcable standards: NEMA/ANSI ICS EEMAC E- UL CSA C. No. Medum Voltage Condut Area (Lower Starter) The major components,.e., contactor, solatng swtch, fuses, EMR-000 and EMR-000 are UL recognzed. UL or CSA labelng of a specfc starter requres revew to ensure that all requested modfcatons and auxlary devces meet the approprate standards. Refer to factory when specfed. AMPGARD starters meet the requrements of IEC standards 0, 0 and 00. Vertcal Bus, Rear Vew (-Hgh 00A) Sesmc Certfcaton AMPGARD starters have been tested and sesmcally qualfed aganst requrements defned wthn the Internatonal Buldng Code 00 (IBC) and the Calforna Buldng Code 00 (CBC). The equpment manufacturer, specfer, Authorty Havng Jursdcton (AHJ), and nstaller have a shared responsblty to ensure that the nstallaton wll meet the sesmc requrements of the code. Eaton has determned va testng that the equpment wll functon followng a sesmc event provded that the nstallaton nstructons are adhered to. The equpment specfer and nstaller must ensure that the equpment s rgdly supported and wll not leave ts pont(s) of attachment durng a sesmc event. The AHJ shall confrm that the nstallaton method conforms to the manufacturer s gudelnes. Unless otherwse specfed, reactors and autotransformers are NEMA medum duty rated. They are desgned for three 0-second starts per hour. Heavy-duty reactors and transformers can be suppled when specfed. Locked rotor current must be specfed when orderng reduced voltage starters to ensure that the reactors or autotransformers are properly szed. Horsepower ratngs are avalable through 000 hp. The 00A AMPGARD soft starter requres one full heght structure wth a full voltage starter n the upper compartment bus connected to a soft start truck assembly n the lower compartment. The 0A soft starter requres two full heght structures (total nches ( mm) wde). The soft start components are fxed mounted n the 0A starter. Both soft starters nclude nternal fault protecton and bult-n basc motor protecton. The standard assembly ncludes an EMR-000 motor relay for advanced motor protecton. Why s Sold-State Reduced Voltage Soft Startng Desrable? One of the most crtcal coordnaton ssues s between the contactor and the starter fuses. The fuses must nterrupt faults greater than the nterruptng ratng of the contactor. The AMPGARD 00A hgh nterruptng contactor (SL00A-HI) has an -cycle dropout tme factory settng as standard and wll nterrupt at 00A. The maxmum sze fuse used wth an SL00A-HI contactor s a 0-R. By comparng the fuse curve wth the contactor ratng, t can be observed that for faults greater than 00A, the fuse wll open before the contactor. Wth faults less than 00A, the contactor may clear the fault before the fuse blows, dependng on the settngs of the protectve relays. Refer to Fgure 0.0- for an llustraton of AMPGARD coordnaton. Other vacuum contactors avalable today may have lower nterruptng ratngs than the AMPGARD Type SL vacuum contactors. Dropout tmes also vary, and may be as short as two cycles on other starter desgns. Lower nterruptng ratngs and shorter dropout tmes can result n fault current levels where the contactor may be requred to nterrupt a fault greater than ts ratng. Ths can result n equpment falure. Refer to Fgure 0.0- for an llustraton of an mproperly coordnated starter. AMPGARD starters also ensure coordnaton between other starter components. The current transformers and protectve relays are selected to work properly wth each other, and to protect the motor. Protectve relays lke Eaton s EMR-000 provde optmal motor protecton, whle also rapdly openng the contactor durng fault condtons. Ths rapd openng sgnal cannot open the contactor n less than ts set dropout tme, but t wll take the motor off-lne n the shortest possble tme. Ths wll help mnmze Tme Contactor Dropout Contactor Interruptng Ratng mechancal damage to the motor and may prevent the starter fuses from blowng by allowng the contactor to clear the fault (only f the fault s less than the contactor nterruptng ratng). AMPGARD starters use 00A standard nterruptng contactors (SL00-SI) when the contactor s not requred to coordnate wth the starter man fuse. Included n ths system s an AFD per system, a PLC per system, a bypass contactor and a motor select contactor per motor. The AFD output contactor feedng the AFD bus s an opton and s llustrated for ths example. Applcaton Descrpton The basc prncple s to adjust the AFD output voltage, frequency and phase to match the utlty. By matchng these parameters, the system can transfer the motor to the utlty n a bump-less manner. The AFD and PLC system s programmed to follow these general commands. Start/Stop Sync Up/Sync Down Once the system bus s energzed, the AFD and Feeder Bus are energzed. See Fgure 0.-. Synchronous Transfer Control System 0V, 0 Hz, Lne AFD Bus Fgure 0.-. Synchronous Transfer Process When the motor s requred to transfer to the utlty lne, the PLC wll send the Sync Up command to the AFD. The AFD wll adjust the output to match the lne voltage, frequency and phase angle. Once synchronzaton s locked, the bypass and motor select contactor are closed and opened such that parallelng s mnmzed. The output reactor dampens transent currents. See Fgure V, 0 Hz, Lne If the PLC receves a command to sync down, the PLC wll start the AFD and close the motor select contactor; however, the AFD output contactor does not close ntally.
