3 «" lrh?my Applcaton nformaton Gould Shawmut Erated power fuses are used to protect medumvoltage transformers and dstrbuton systems. They are classfed as "general purpose currentlmtng fuses n accordance wth ANS/EEE C7.4 and are approprate for use ndoor or outdoor n a weatherproof enclosure. ANS Standard C7.46 outlnes the Specfcatons for Power Fuses and C7.41 outlnes the Desgn Tests. A general purpose currentlmtng power fuse s one that s capable of nterruptng all currents from the rated nterruptng current down to the current that causes meltng of the fusble element n one hour. An Erated fuse s defned by ANS C7.46 to have meltng (openng) characterstcs as follows: 1E and belowmust melt n seconds (5 mnutes) at % to 4% of ratng. Above 1E must melt n 6 seconds (1 mnutes} at % to 64% of ratng. Example A 1 OOE fuse wll melt n seconds wth an appled current of to 4 amperes. 168 Physcal lnterchangeablty Wth three dfferent mountng confguratons avalable, Gould Shawmut UL lsted Erated fuses are physcally nterchangeable wth most older Gould Shawmut fuses (ncludng CL14 fuses wth the TE label), as well as many other brands of orgnal equpment fuses. For assstance n makng the proper selecton, request the cross reference bulletn for the brand of fuse you have been usng from your Gould Shawmut Sales Representatve or Authorzed Dstrbutor. n some cases the fuse length may not be the same. Ths would requre a repostonng of the mountng channel that the clps and the standoff nsulators are mounted on. Electrcal nterchangeablty Gould Shawmut AMPTRAP fuses can generally replace a fuse of equal ratng, even f of another brand, wthout affectng the coordnaton wth adjacent devces. However, t s recommended that the tmecurrent curves be compared n order to ensure that proper coordnaton s mantaned.
