She als gave an verview f the evening s agenda, including backgrund infrmatin n an pprtunity that had arisen since the grup last met; a dwntwn Rbbinsdale design wrkshp that tk place n June Shelley Miller (Metr Transit) gave an update n the status f LRT planning, reprting that METRO Blue Line prject ffice staff are wrking ut hw t cnsider/address sme f the ideas frm the design wrkshp as they mve frward with statin design. Miller als let the CWG knw that the Metrplitan Cuncil/METRO Blue Line Prject Office will be hsting a series f cmmunity meetings in each city n the LRT line later in July and in early August and t stay tuned fr mre infrmatin n meetings dates and details. Design Wrkshp Walser then presented an verview f the design wrkshp, ideas that resulted frm the wrkshp, and next steps. The Rbbinsdale CWG and the HEEC had pprtunities t meet with the design team facilitating this wrkshp. CWG/HEEC members wh participated had an pprtunity t talk abut their experience and thughts abut the wrkshp. The whle grup discussed what they thught abut the wrkshp ideas and experience. 3 Peple lve the large Rbbinsdale sign n the stres/buildings that wuld wrap the parking structure, and they like that the parking structure wuld be wrapped with ther buildings (making it less visually-impactful) Peple want t see the wrapping f the parking structure[with develpment] t be there n pening day Develpers like t see these types f designs because it gives them ideas n hw t build new things, with the pssibility f relcating sme existing businesses t ther spaces still in twn Cmmunity input summary/cmmunity character statements Denise Engen (Hennepin Cunty) prvided the CWG members with a summary f the cmmunity input that had been received s far, fcusing n the cmmunity wrkshp held n June 11 at Rbbinsdale Middle Schl. Key messages frm the public include: The parking structure shuld be cmpatible with dwntwn scale and character, and shuld be integrated with dwntwn. Visual/physical cnnectins t dwntwn frm the statin are very imprtant Pedestrian-scale, walkable design is very imprtant Access t the statin by all mdes (pedestrian, bicycle, bus and car) is imprtant; traffic management is imprtant Engen led the members thrugh a large grup discussin abut develping character statements fr the statin area. These are, shrt bulleted statement that describe hw the statin shuld lk and functin in the future. The draft language develped fr discussin was based n cmmunity input. The public s cmments will help staff/cnsultants develp prpsals that meet cmmunity gals and reflect this cmmunity input. The cmmunity cmment summary and character statements will be shared and used at cmmunity meetings t prvide a check list f srts t help the cmmunity evaluate whether plans are addressing cmmunity cncerns, meeting cmmunity needs and advancing a cmmunity visin fr the future. The statements will be revised, based n the CWG discussin and the CWG have the pprtunity t cmment again at its next meeting. The public will als have a change t weigh in n the statements at a cmmunity meeting in the fall. Third statement (wrds and ideas t cnsider): Welcming Cnnectivity acrss Hwy 81 and ther areas Areas f stability and change Andrew Gillett (Hennepin Cunty) led the CWG in a map exercise t lk at places in the statin area that may ptentially see changes in existing land uses ver time. The areas discussed are where there may be market interest in redevelpment r reuse f existing sites. The purpse f the exercise was a general discussin t get input n these areas fr future plicy discussin. The grup lked at a large map with areas f change indicated by yellw utlines. CWG members cmmented n these areas and gave their ideas n which were higher pririty areas. They suggested remving sme areas and adding thers (see the map belw).
