8 S&C Switch Operator Type AS-10 MANUAL OPERATION Before proceeding further, familiarize yourelf with the operation of the manual operating handle and the elector handle, a decribed on the witch operator nameplate on the right-hand ide of the encloure and in the following Step 4, 5, and 6. See Figure 3 and 4. Ç CAUTION Do not manually open or cloe the witch operator while the Alduti-Rupter Switch i energized. Operating the witch under reduced operating peed may caue exceive arcing, reulting in hortened interrupter life, or poible damage to the interrupter. If witch operator control voltage i not available and emergency manual opening i abolutely required, crank the manual operating handle rapidly throughout it full travel. Do not top or heitate part way. To avoid cloing into a fault, never cloe the witch manually. Step 4 To operate manually: Pull the latch knob on the hub of the manual operating handle and pivot the handle forward lightly from it torage poition. Releae the latch knob while continuing to pivot the handle forward to lock it into the cranking poition. See Figure 3. (A the handle i pivoted forward, the motor brake i mechanically releaed, both lead of the control ource are automati- cally diconnected, and except for 12-volt dc model both the opening and cloing motor contactor are mechanically blocked in the open poition.) If deired, during manual operation, the witch operator may alo be diconnected from the control ource by removing the motor-circuit two-pole pull-out fueholder, located on the right-hand inide wall of the encloure. To return the manual operating handle to it torage poition, pull the latch knob and pivot the handle approximately 90 degree. The handle will then be diengaged from the witch operator and may be rotated freely in either direction to it torage poition. Complete the handle torage by pivoting the operating handle backward approximately 90 degree until it latche in the torage poition. Note that the manual operating handle may be diengaged from the witch operator mechanim at any poition of the handle. Alway padlock the handle in it torage poition. Step 5 To decouple: The integral external elector handle, for operation of the built-in internal decoupling mechanim, i located on the right-hand ide of the witch operator encloure. See Figure 3. Swing the elector handle upright and lowly rotate it clockwie 50 degree to the decoupled poition. See Figure 4. 9 MANUAL OPERATION Continued operator mechanim from the witch operator operating lever. Then lower the elector handle to engage the locking tab. When thu decoupled, the witch operator may be operated either manually or electrically without operating the Alduti-Rupter Switch. When the elector handle i in the decoupled poition, the witch operator' operating lever i prevented from moving by a mechanical locking device located within the witch operator encloure. During the intermediate egment of the elector handle travel, which include the poition at which actual diengagement (or engagement) of the internal decoupling mechanim occur, the motor-circuit ource lead are momentarily diconnected and (except for 12-volt dc model) both the opening and cloing motor contactor are mechanically blocked in the open poition. Viual inpection, through the obervation window, will verify whether the internal decoupling mechanim i in the coupled or decoupled poition. See Figure 5. Padlock the elector handle in either poition. Step 6 To couple: Manually operate the witch operator to bring it to the ame poition (open or cloed) a the Alduti- Rupter Switch. The witch operator poition indicator, een through the obervation window, will how when the approximate open or cloed poition ha been attained. See Figure 5. To move the witch operator to the exact poition for coupling, turn the manual operating handle lowly until the poition-indexing drum are numerically aligned. 10 S&C Switch Operator Type AS-10 ADJUSTMENTS Ç CAUTION Remove the two-pole pull-out fueholder for the motor circuit and pace-heater circuit. See Figure 2. Failure to remove fueholder can reult in accidental energizing of the operator after the external connection have been completed. Reinert fueholder only when directed to do o in the tep that follow. Step 7 Connection of the lowet ection of vertical operating pipe to the witch operator i to be made with the witch operator and the Alduti-Rupter Switch in the fully cloed poition. Place the elector handle in the coupled poition and manually operate the witch operator to the fully cloed poition. The witch operator poition indicator, een through the obervation window, will how when the cloed poition ha been attained. Note the direction the operating lever travel. The operating lever travel in the left-hand or right-hand ector a viewed from the front (door ide) of the witch operator. Operating lever in the up poition correpond to the cloed poition of the Alduti-Rupter Switch. Operating lever in the down poition correpond to the open poition of the Alduti-Rupter Switch. Make certain that the main contact on all three witch pole are fully cloed and, where applicable, that all witch toggle mechanim are in an overtoggle poition againt their cloed top. Additionally, the rod-guide lever() (if rod guide are ued), a well a the driving lever of the bell crank to the Alduti-Rupter Switch interphae pipe, hould be 45 degree above the horizontal. All rod-guide lever (when more than one rod guide i employed) hould be parallel at all time. Refer to the erection drawing furnihed with the Alduti-Rupter Switch. Connection of the vertical-operating-pipe ection to the witch operator i made by mean of the clevi fitting. See Figure 1. The vertical-operating-pipe ection i to be threaded into the clevi fitting to a thread depth of approximately two inche. Meaure and cut (if neceary) the length of operating pipe required to connect the clevi fitting and the rod-guide coupling (bell-crank coupling if no rod guide i ued). Place a locknut on the threaded end of the vertical-operating-pipe ection. Thread the pipe into the clevi fitting to a thread depth of about two inche. Tighten the lockout ecurely againt the clevi. Make certain that the cutting tip of the piercing et crew doe not protrude through the body of the rodguide (or bell-crank) coupling clamp. Inert the upper end of the vertical-operating-pipe ection into the coupling. Tighten the clamp bolt ecurely, but do not tighten the piercing et crew at thi time. Step 8 Manually operate the witch operator to open and then cloe the Alduti-Rupter Switch. A definite reitance hould be felt a the operating lever goe over center, indicating that all lack in the operating linkage ha been taken up. The main contact on all three witch pole hould be fully cloed and, where applicable, all witch toggle mechanim hould be in an overtoggle poition againt their cloed top. If thi i not the cae, or if a definite reitance i not felt a the operating lever goe over center in the cloing direction, increae the effective length of the vertical operating pipe a follow: (a) Looen the clamp bolt on the rod-guide coupling (bell crank if no rod guide i ued). (b) Manually operate the witch operator in the opening direction until the operating lever i approximately 10 degree from the vertical (up) poition (approximately one revolution of the manual operating handle). Retighten the coupling clamp bolt. (c) Manually operate the witch operator to the fully cloed poition and recheck the Alduti-Rupter Switch to determine if full cloure ha been attained. Page 10 of 18

11 ADJUSTMENTS Continued If more travel in the opening direction i required, proceed a follow: (a) Looen the clamp bolt on the rod-guide coupling (bell crank if no rod guide i ued). (b) Looen the two bolt on the adjutable driving arm of the bell crank. Shorten the adjutable driving arm by one tep (¹ ₈ inch) and retighten the bolt. (Moving the arm toward the bell-crank pivot increae the amount of witch opening.) Retighten the coupling clamp bolt. Manually operate the witch operator to open and cloe the Alduti-Rupter Switch. In each poition, make certain that all the witch operating lever (or toggle mechanim, if applicable) come to ret firmly againt their top in both the open and cloed poition. If neceary, readjut for full cloure of the Alduti-Rupter Switch or for more or le travel in the opening direction a decribed above. Step 9 After atifactory manual operation of the Alduti-Rupter Switch ha been attained, ecurely tighten the clamp bolt on the rod-guide coupling (bell crank if no rod guide i ued). Tighten the piercing et crew in the coupling clamp, piercing the vertical-operating-pipe ection, and continue turning until a firm reitance i felt. Step 10 The travel-limit witch (coupled to the motor), which govern the extent of output-haft rotation in the opening and cloing direction, include two contact that are operated by cam-actuated roller.d The cam are permanently et at the factory to produce an output-haft rotation of 180 degree and cannot be field adjuted. See Figure 7. Therefore, no travel-limit adjutment are neceary. With the manual operating handle in it torage poition, place the elector handle in the decoupled poition in preparation for electrical operation. Reinert the motorcircuit fueholder. Open the puhbutton protective covera and operate the witch operator by mean of the externally mounted Open-Cloe puhbutton. (Where Open-Cloe puhbutton have not been provided, the witch operator can be electrically opened or cloed by temporarily jumpering terminal 1 and 8 to open, and 1 and 9 to cloe.n) If a dc witch operator doe not operate, check the polarity of the external control-ource wiring connection. d Six contact are included on witch operator furnihed with Source- Tranfer Control Compatibility (Catalog Number Suffix -U1 ), a For witch operator with optional remote-control blocking witch (uffix -Y ), opening the puhbutton protective cover prevent remote operation of the witch operator. n Terminal deignation may differ in pecial wiring diagram. In uch cae, refer to the pecific wiring diagram for the correct terminal deignation. Page 11 of 18

12 S&C Switch Operator Type AS-10 ADJUSTMENTS Continued Step 11 Place the elector handle in the coupled poition and operate the witch operator electrically to the open poition and then to the cloed poition. In the fully open poition and then in the fully cloed poition, make certain that all Alduti-Rupter Switch operating lever (or toggle mechanim, if applicable) come to ret firmly againt their open or cloed top. Step 12 The auxiliary witch, which i permanently coupled to the motor, include eight contact (terminal 11 through 26). If the optional poition-indicating lamp are included, ix contact are available (terminal 13 through 18 and 21 through 26.) Thee contact are provided o that external circuit can be etablihed to monitor witching operation. Each contact i operated by a cam-actuated roller. The cam are individually adjutable in 4.5-degree increment and can be poitioned o that roller engagement occur at the deired point in the operating cycle. The tandard configuration for the auxiliary witch conit of four a1 contact (terminal 11 through 18) and four b1 contact (terminal 19 through 26). Thu, with the witch operator in the open poition, the a1 contact are open and the b1 contact are cloed. Converely, with the witch operator in the cloed poition, the a1 contact are cloed and the b1 contact are open. A contact i cloed if it roller i diengaged from a cam and, converely, a contact i open if it roller i engaged by a cam. See Figure 7. Any auxiliary-witch contact being ued mut be checked for proper operation for both open and cloed poition of the witch operator. To adjut the auxiliarywitch contact, refer to Figure 6 and 7 and proceed a follow: (a) With the elector handle in the coupled poition, operate the witch operator to the fully cloed poition (manually or electrically). (b) Remove the motor-circuit fueholder. (c) Determine which a1 contact are not in the cloed poition. A contact i cloed if it roller i diengaged from a cam and, converely, a contact i open if it roller i engaged by a cam. (d) For the a1 contact that are not in the cloed poition, raie (or lower) the correponding cam toward it adjacent pring until the cam i eparated from the teeth of the inner gear. Rotate the cam until it i in a poition o that when lowered (or raied) it will be diengaged from the roller. Lower (or raie) the cam, making ure that the teeth are in meh with the inner gear and that the cam i diengaged from the roller.
