Whatever your load, ENSURE that it i alway tied firmly to the trailer and that any looe good inide a van, trailer or caravan cannot lip in any direction, enure that livetock ha the minimum room for movement commenurate with their comfort. Ue eparately fixed baulk and chock a neceary to help your fatening device. Check them all en route. Enure that failure of any one fixing doen't make other ineffective. FIXINGS MUST BE STRONG ENOUGH TO PREVENT ANY MOVEMENT under emergency braking and cornering. Knot in a rope reduce it trength by half, webbing trap with pecial buckle are uually better. Cloe up a telecopic jockey, then lift it right up o that the tyre i not damaged on the road. CHECK that all light and brake are working properly, any parking brake i off, that mirror give you good rearward viion around and over the load, and that all tyre tread and cold tyre preure are uitable, (ay 35pi for 8" wheel-rim, and for all larger rim about 34pi for 4-ply tyre and 36-46pi for 6-ply tyre). Carry a jack and correct wheel changing tool in your own tool kit. CHECK wheel nut tightne. CHECK that the trailer ha an approved 50mm coupling or matching pin & ring and that the coupling cup or ring i ecurely locked on the ball or pin and doen't rattle, that the ball and towing-bracket are rigidly bolted to the car againt vertical and horizontal force. After a few mile, CHECK all tiedown and that HUBS are running cool and not loing greae. Road trailer are NOT normally put into water, but if launching larger boat, get advice before towing on re-greaing hub and trying out the brake. 4. YOUR OUTFIT i now perhap twice a long and heavy. Before moving off again, enure that the catch ha cancelled itelf. Turn the teering-wheel "left-hand down a bit" to make the trailer move back to your right, don't overdo it or you will jack-knife. Parking brake on trailer with automatic revering brake have to be applied VERY firmly to prevent lipping backward down a hill.

Thi GUIDE mut be read in conjunction with the WATLING TOWING BRACKET INFORMATION GUIDE and the pecific towing bracket fitting intruction.,_ TOOLS Fitting a towing bracket can be done by a competent DIY peron with mall number of baic tool eg. et of panner up to 24mm AF, 1/2" drive ocket et, an electric drill to 12mm capacity, crewdriver - flat and cro point, plier. On ome vehicle part of the trim, bumper or bracket are fixed by pecial fatener for which the correct tool i needed. MODEL VARIATIONS Every effort i made to decribe accurately the model to which the towing bracket fit, however vehicle manufacturer make many change to model decription, pecial limited edition and other undicloed modification, after it initial launch, which may prevent the towing bracket being fitted, pleae check with our technical department for confirmation if you are in doubt. Particular care mut be taken with chai cab converion eg motor home, truck, and tipper where a body builder may have modified the chai by cutting it back, extending it or adding tipper, tail lift, tep or bumper. BUMPER CHANGES A common variation to the original pecification i the rear bumper with change to the fixing (particularly the tip bolt/crew) and with the addition of poiler or kirt. Many of thee variation will be fitted by the tandard towing bracket ome may require cutting the bumper valance or kirt. Take care when removing and refitting the bumper not to mark the body with the bumper tip, ue a protective cloth. EXHAUST CHANGES Rear exhaut ilencer and tail pipe change frequently either when replaced or with variation at original fitment. When fitting the towing bracket care mut be taken to enure adequate clearance to the exhaut ytem (which will expand and vibrate). Careful movement of exhaut bracket, bending of the upport bar and checking the upport rubber uually overcome any potential rattle. NUMBER PLATES Some vehicle number plate are et below the Britih Standard, the plate mut be moved o that it i not obcured by the towing equipment & illuminated in it new poition. COMMERCIAL VEHICLES Chai Cab, Truck, Tipper, Motor Home, Caravanette etc. which have extenion, tep, tail lift or tipping mechanim etc. need pecial care when fitting the towing bracket a there i often a conflict with the Britih Standard height of the hitch. Offer the t;>racket into place and check the operation of the mechanim or acceory before fitting and make any neceary adjutment. DO NOT MODIFY THE TOWING BRACKET IN ANY WAY. Contact our Technical Department for further help. DRILLING HOLES Check to ee that all i clear on the far ide of the hole to be drilled: clear away or protect:- carpet, trim panel, loom, fuel tank & pipe, etc. Centre punch and pilot drill to avoid larger drill wandering. In many cae the towing bracket can be ued a guide. Take epecial care a the drill break through a it can be drawn through very quickly and may damage item on the far ide. When drilling everal hole through one piece fix the firt hole before drilling the other. Treat all drilled hole with a zinc rich paint and under-eal after fitting. FUEL TANKS Where tank trap or bolt are removed during fitting enure that it i propped up on a table platform. WIRING LOOMS Make ure that all wire are protected from harp edge, ue grommet and tie trap. Any wiring that i run cloe to the exhaut mut be protected with a heat hield. SPARE WHEELS In many vehicle the pare wheel ha to be removed during fitting, make ure that when you replace it there are no harp edge, wart or bolt which may damage the tyre; protect with uitable material. INSULATION Sound inulation which i tuck to the teel at fixing point mut be cleared to allow waher and plate to eat properly. HOLE ALIGNMENT Becaue of change in body pick-up point, production tolerance and movement of fixing hole/tie down loop you mut check centre line a you go. BOLTS When fixing the towing bracket to bumper or other bolted on bracket you MUST enure that the bolt fixing them to the vehicle are alo tightened to the CORRECT TORQUE. SHAKEPROOF WASHERS Thee are upplied with all nut; for correct operation the nut i held till while the bolt i tightened to the correct torque thi allow the waher to bite into the metal and the nut to reit undoing. RUSTY BOLTS Liberal ue of penetrating oil before tarting help, alo try tightening firt, then heat and/or impact where practicable, can alo help. / WELDED NUTS/STUDS Clear the thread. The tolerance on the poitioning of the manufacturer nut & tud may be quite large and may mean elongating the hole in the towing bracket. To tow a trailer or caravan afely you mut fit a teel framework or towing bracket to ditribute the towing and pitching load to the bet trong point of the vehicle. Any temporary fatening or improvied bar i not good enough../ 1. Watling Towing Bracket are deigned to comply with relevant Britih Standard for 50mm ball coupling, B.S.AU 113 and B.S.AU 114 for the trength/fatigue requirement (ISO 1103 & 3853). The fixing for the tow ball are two 16mm high tenile bolt at 90mm centre. The ball-centre height i between 350 and 420mm from the ground when the vehicle i fully laden and 65mm from the rear of the vehicle. It i important to enure that there i a cloe match in height of the vehicle hitch and the trailer coupling, particularly with cloe coupled double or triple axle trailer, (See Note 2). All meaurement hould be made with the vehicle and trailer laden. Many Watling Towing Bracket have a reverible hitch-mounting angle to accommodate variation in load and upenion in the towing vehicle and trailer. If it eem "neceary" to modify the towing bracket or to ue a drop plate or a pacer block pleae contact our Technical Department for advice. ANY UNAUTHORISED MODIFICATION TO THE TOWING BRACKET WILL INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY MAXIMUM PERMITIED SPACER BLOCK 12mm between the hitch and the towing bracket IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAY ANY RAISER PLATE BE FITIED to the towing bracket. 2. Watling deign Towing Bracket to tow trailer up to the vehicle manufacturer maximum recommended trailer weight, for your model, for SIN GLE axle trailer. FOR CLOSE COUPLED DOUBLE OR TRIPLE AXLE TRAILERS the maximum trailer weight SHOULD BE REDUCED BY 20%. Towing trailer with gro weight above that recommended at any time will invalidate the warranty and cancel any liability for damage. When fitted & erviced according to our intruction your Watling Towing Bracket will give year of atifactory ervice. 3. When fitting a towing bracket it i important to inpect the chai and body hell for corroion or damage. All upect area mut be repaired before fitting and towing. All fixing urface hould be clean and free from corroion, dirt, underea! and ound deadening material. It i uggeted that during fitting any bare metal urface are treated with a zinc rich paint and afterward coated with underea! or a colour matching the vehicle. 4. All bolt fixing the towing bracket to the vehicle including thoe on the bumper iron or tie down loop or thoe in the aembly of the bracket mut be regularly checked for correct torque etting. The chai & body near any towing bracket fi xing point mut be inpected for any ign of damage or corroion. Appropriate remedial action mut be taken if any fault are found. Inpection mut be carried out, by a qualified engineer, at leat every 3000 mile towing or every 6 month which ever i the ooner or after any rear end accident to the vehicle or trailer. DESIGNS WITH REMOVABLE SECTIONS MUST BE CHECKED FOR CORRECT BOLT TORQUE EVERY TIME BEFORE TOWING.
