5 PL 1962: SERVICE KIT COMER GEARBOX FITTING INSTRUCTIONS: This kit ( ) provides ll the neessry equipment to reple the Hiton gerox fitted to the mhine with Comer lterntive. Below shows the mhine fitted with 1) Hiton gerox, 2) Minfrme sty, 3) Bering ssemly, 4) Drive shft, 5) PTO single joint ssemly, 6) Drive shft gurd mounting plte nd 7) Drive shft gurd. Figure 1: Bndit 2250 fitted with Hiton gerox. Instrutions to remove Hiton gerox: 1. Remove minfrme sty (Item 2) y removing the two M16 setsrews nd nuts. 2. Remove drive shft gurd (Item 7) y removing ll four M10 setsrews, spring nd flt wshers nd lifting off. 3. Remove Hiton gerox (Item 1) from mhine. 4. Remove elt drive gurd from side of mhine in order to remove tper-lok nd upper pulley. 5. Remove ering ssemly (Item 3) y removing ll four M12 setsrews, wshers nd nuts. 6. Remove drive shft (Item 4) long with PTO single joint ssemly (Item 5). 7. All omponents re removed nd mhine is now redy to e fitted with Comer lterntive.

13 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DO NOT ttempt ny mintenne of or djustment to the mhine while it is running. Before rrying out ny work on the mhine, follow the three sfety instrutions elow: PUT THE PTO OUT OF GEAR STOP THE TRACTOR ENGINE LOWER THE MACHINE ON TO THE GROUND 2. Ensure tht the pulley nd elt gurds re properly fitted to the mhine t ll times nd tht they re in good ondition. 3. DO NOT djust utting height y ltering the top link length. Tilting the mhine will redue the effetiveness of the gurds. 4. THINK SAFETY - WORK SAFELY. d e f g h AVOID WIRE. It n e extremely dngerous if wire thes on the rotor nd every re must e tken to ensure tht this will not hppen. Inspet the working re efore ommening. Remove ll loose wire nd ostrutions nd lerly mrk those tht re fixed so tht you n void them. Any unusul noise from the owl re indites tht the rotor my hve een fouled y n ostrution. In ny suh event STOP the trtor engine INSTANTLY. On no ount lift the mhine until the rotor hs ompletely stopped. NEVER IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES run the mhine to ler itself. When the rotor hs stopped inspet it nd remove ny ostrution tht my e present. If working under rised mhine ensure tht it is sfely supported. Before working on the rotor lwys stop the trtor engine. CHECK the flils for wer nd the tthment olts for tightness every dy during work (see Mintenne Setion). A few moments heking this whenever the mhine is stopped, e.g. whenever removing ostrutions, will help redue flil wer or loss. Keep your forwrd speed to level pproprite to the opertion onditions. Wth refully while operting for pssers-y who my indvertently get in the wy of ut mteril eing thrown from the rotor. Stop the rotor until ll personnel re well ler. Keep the roller in position t ll times. Keep ll gurds in position t ll times. 4-1

15 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE TRACTOR REQUIREMENTS Ensure the speifitions of the trtor meet the requirements listed elow: A 6 spline PTO of 1.3/8 dimeter (stndrd). A PTO output of 540 rev/min (stndrd). Note: The mhine n e operted with 1000 rev/min PTO - see Mintenne Setion 10 to onvert. A Ctegory II three point linkge. d Adjustle top link. e Any rkets or ojets whih my ostrut opertion of lift rms should e removed. 2 PTO SHAFT LENGTH Due to my different mkes nd sizes of trtor to whih BOMFORD mowers n e fitted, nominl length PTO shft is supplied with the mhine. In some ses it my e found tht this PTO shft is too long nd will hve to e shortened. IMPORTANT MINIMUM ENGAGEMENT OF PTO IS 150MM IN THE WORKING POSITION. THIS MEASUREMENT MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN SHORTENING THE PTO SHAFT. Before fitting PTO shft to trtor grese the sliding drive shfts nd ering units. 3 FITTING MACHINE TO TRACTOR To fit the mhine to the trtor the following instrutions must e followed: Disengge PTO drive nd expose drive shft. Reverse squrely to the mhine. When trtor lift rms re 70-80mm short of mounting pins, stop nd swith off trtor engine. d Atth PTO to rer of trtor ensuring loking devie is fully engged. e Grdully reverse trtor until lift rm holes re level with mounting pins. f Position left lift rm (B) in mounting levis (C), fit pin nd lok with linh pin nd ring. g Adjust height of right lift rm (D), if neessry. h Position right lift rm (D) in mounting levis (E), fit pin nd lok with linh pin nd ring. i Fit djustle top link (F) to top link hole of A frme. j Seure with pin provided with trtor. k Adjust top link ensuring the mhine is level. l Atth PTO gurd hins to trtor nd mhine in the holes provided. m Adjust lift rm hek hins to prevent mhine from swying when rised. 5-1

16 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE HYDRAULIC SIDESHIFT (1800 & 2250 MODELS ONLY) Atth hydruli hoses to trtor spool vlve onnetions. Ensure hoses re routed to miss moving prts. 5 DRIVE BELT TENSIONING Before operting the mhine it is essentil tht the elts re heked for tension. Follow the instrutions elow. Stop trtor engine n disengge PTO drive. Cheking elt tension. To hieve orret elt tension the dis springs 3(A) must e ompressed y tightening the loknuts 3(B). The elt tension is orret when the flt wsher is level with the end of the inditor. The elts t orret tension n e defleted 6mm y pplying fore of 3.6 to 6.3kg (8.14 ls) t right ngles to the elts, midwy etween the two drive pulleys. IMPORTANT ENSURE THE BELTS ARE NOT OVER TIGHT AS THIS MAY CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE ROTOR SHAFT BEARINGS AND BELTS. 5-2

17 LUBRICATION REQUIREMENTS GEARBOX LUBRICATION The gerox is filled with EP 90 oil efore it leves the ftory, ut level should e heked efore use. 2 GREASE POINTS All grese points should e gresed efore operting the mhine nd then t time intervls indited y the grese del. 19 GENERAL OPERATION OPERATOR These notes re produed for guidne nd re intended to help you otin the est results with the minimum of troule nd downtime. Red refully the following pges nd fmilirise yourself with their ontents. Mke note of the seril numer stmped on the rotor unit. Alwys quote the numer in ny orrespondene with your deler. 2 INITIAL CHECKS Chek tht the trtor is equipped to deliver 540 rev/min t the power tke-off shft. IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST THE PTO EXCEED 600 REV/MIN. 3 NORMAL PRE-START CHECKS d e f Chek tht the rotor is free from ostrutions, espeilly piees of wire. Chek tht ll flils re in good ondition nd seurely tthed. Chek tht ll gurds re in position nd lso tht they re in good ondition. Chek tht the roller is in ple nd orretly djusted. Exmine the jo to e ut. It is very importnt tht the work site is inspeted efore utting nd ll hidden ostrutions removed or their positions mrked so tht they my e voided. Chek for wire, hidden stkes, drin pipes, lrge stones, et. 4 NORMAL RUN UP With new mhine never strt utting in rduous onditions. Allow t lest one dy s light work for running-in. Never ttempt to strt the mhine while it is under lod t ny time. Alwys free rotor shft from ny ostrutions. Never inrese or derese PTO speed rpidly s this n led to gerox dmge. WARNING STOP RUN-UP IMMEDIATELY IF NOISE IS DETECTED FROM THE ROTORS OR GEARBOX AND REFER TO MAINTENANCE - SECTION 10 OR TO SECTION 5 - INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. 8-1

20 GENERAL OPERATION TRANSPORT Normlly the mhine will need to e driven to the work site efore ommening work. IMPORTANT d e WHEN TRANSPORTING MACHINES WITH HYDRAULIC OFFSET, ISOLATE THE CONTROL TO PREVENT THE MACHINE ACCIDENTALLY MOVING. Rise the mhine from the ground using trtor hydrulis. Centrlize mower with trtor. Lok in rised position. Do not trnsport with PTO engged. Do not trnsport with roller or wheel on the ground. 6 ROLLER HEIGHT IMPORTANT DO NOT ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT BY ALTERING TOP LINK LENGTH. TILTING THE MACHINE WILL REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE GUARDS AND REDUCE THE LIFE OF THE BEARINGS IN THE PTO SHAFT. d e f g h i j The roller is pre-set in its rised position efore leving the ftory. djustment is detiled elow. Rise the mhine off the ground using trtor hydrulis. Stop trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Ple strong support under the side skids. Ple suitle jk under the entre of the roller nd support the weight of the roller. Loosen the nuts nd olts (A) from eh side of the roller. Unsrew olts nd nuts (B) from the roller rket. Lower or rise roller to the height required. Reple nuts nd olts (B) Fully tighten ll nuts nd olts on oth sides Remove supports nd jk nd lower the mhine to the ground. The method of ADJUST THE ROLLER BY THE SAME AMOUNT BOTH SIDES TO ALLOW THE BANDIT TO MAINTAIN ITS HORIZONTAL POSITION. THE ROLLER MUST BE KEPT IN POSITION AT IT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE BANDIT GUARD. 8-2

21 GENERAL OPERATION WHEEL ADJUSTMENT (1) The wheel djustment is rried out y series of shims on the wheel pivot spindle. The method of wheel djustment is detiled elow. d e Rise the mhine off the ground using the trtor hydrulis. Stop the trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Ple strong support under the side skids. Adjust position of shins to give required height of ut. Remove support nd lower the mhine to the ground. d e f g h WHEEL ADJUSTMENT (2) The wheel djustment is rried out y loting the wheel spindle with olt in series of holes. The method of wheel djustment is s follow: Rise the mhine off the ground using the trtor hydrulis. Stop the trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Ple strong support under the side skids. Remove nut, spring wsher nd olts from wheel spindle. Lower or rise the wheel to height required. Reple olt, nut nd spring wsher nd fully tighten. Repet previous opertion for djustment of seond wheel. Remove support nd lower the mhine to the ground. 8 OPERATING HINTS KEEP trtor PTO speed t rev/min to mintin rotor shft speed. AVOID wire. STOP trtor engine instntly if n unusul noise is herd from the mhine. On no ount rise or move the utting unit until the rotor hs stopped. NEVER IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES run the rotor to ler itself. AVOID stumps nd pipes, et. Stlling in hevy growth my use dmge to the rotor shft. d DO NOT llow personnel ner the mhine while it is operting. e AVOID rushing into mteril when operting. 22 GENERAL OPERATION STALLING THE ROTOR If the rotor eomes hoked the trtor will stll or the elts will slip. If this does our follow the instrutions elow. d e Stop forwrd motion, disengge PTO drive immeditely nd ple PTO drive lever in neutrl. Lift mhine using trtor hydrulis. Stop trtor engine. Remove ny ostrutions tht my e present on the rotor. If working under the rised mhine ensure tht it is sfely supported. NEVER IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES run the rotor to ler itself. 10 FLAIL OPTIONS The mhine will normlly e delivered with the C flils fitted s stndrd. Other flil options ville, whih re le to e fitted to the rotor shft re: Forged Flil Used for sru utting nd will lso give n eptle finish on grss Twin Flil Used for light sru nd grss nd where lower power requirement is neessry. 11 A FRAME POSITIONS (not pplile to 1200 rnge) Hydruli Mhines - The A frme is djusted with the hydruli sideshift. Mhines without hydruli sideshift The mhine will normlly e delivered with the A frme olted in the entre of the rotor unit. The A frme is djustle sidewys for up to 700mm to the left s viewed from the rer. d e f g The method of djustment is detiled elow: Lower the mhine to the ground using the trtor hydrulis. Disengge PTO drive nd stop trtor engine. Remove mhine from the trtor. Slken olts nd nuts (B) on oth lmps t ottom of A frme. Position A frme in desired position. Tighten up ll olts nd nuts. Refit mhine to trtor. 8-4

23 STORAGE Before removing the mhine from the trtor, thorough hek should e mde s follows: d e f Thoroughly len ll moving prts, prtiulrly the rotor shft. Chek tht ll flils re in ple nd tht they re in good ondition. Smer ll unpinted metl prts with grese nd lurite ll grese nipples. Chek ll hoses for dmge suh s rks, evidene of hfing nd leks. Mke note of ny item tht needs repling so tht prts n e ordered. Retrt rm to protet rod. 2 PARKING AND REMOVAL In the prked position the mhine rests on the roller t the rer nd on the skids t oth sides. To put the mhine in this position the following proedure is neessry: d e f g h i j k l Lower the mhine to the ground using the trtor hydrulis. Stop the trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Slken lift rms nd hek hins. Slken djustle top link nd remove. Remove linh pin nd rings seuring lift rms to mounting pins. Remove lift rms from mounting pins. Grese mounting pins. Reple linh pins nd rings on mounting pins. Relese trtor end of PTO shft nd pull k long splines. (On some trtors it my not e possile to remove PTO shft t this stge.) Strt trtor engine nd drive refully forwrd relesing PTO shft from trtor. Grese spline nd tues of PTO nd store with mhine or keep in sfe dry ple. Remove PTO. Chek ondition of gurds. Reple if dmged, then store in sfe ple. 9-1

24 MAINTENANCE POWER TAKE-OFF SHAFT The PTO shft used is of the norml griulturl type. Spres kits omprising the spider, needle erings, irlips, et. re ville from most griulturl delers. See prts mnul for orret prt numers whih must e quoted when ordering spres. Some routine mintenne is needed to ensure troule free life for the PTO shft. For est results: d e Regulrly grese PTO shft sliding tues. Grese oth ends of PTO shft dily. Ensure hek hins re seurely tthed nd in good ondition. Chek tht PTO gurd is in good ondition nd reple if not. Chek universl joint ering journls for roughness or slkness, reple if neessry. 2 GREASING Any good qulity lithium sed grese my e used for lurition of pivot pins nd erings. There re numer of gresing points on the mhine. The frequeny t whih these gresing points should e gresed is shown y del on the mhine. Do not overgrese the roller nd its erings or the rriers my e fored prt nd distorted y the pressure. To grese the rotor shft erings follow the instrutions elow: d e Ple hed on ground or support it sfely. Stop trtor engine nd disengge drive to PTO shft. Rotor shft erings: Grese nipples re loted in the side of the ering housing. Apply grese to the nipples ut do not grese violently s dmge to the sels my result. Do not overgrese or it ould use overheting. 3 ROTOR SHAFT WARNING! Flils - Chek eh dy tht flils re in good ondition nd seurely tthed to the rotor shft Reple ny dmged nd tighten ny loose nuts. Virtion of the rotor shft will use premture filure of the rotor shft erings, s well s hydruli nd struturl filures. It is importnt not to operte the mhine with the utting unit virting. As soon s ny virtion is felt stop operting the mhine nd mke the heks listed elow: Ple the hed on the ground or support it sfely. Stop trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Chek flils re in ple nd fstened tight. 10-1

25 MAINTENANCE 1299 d Chek for missing or worn flils. Alwys reple missing/worn flils in pirs opposite eh other to mintin shft lne. e When repling missing or worn flils hek if the retining olts re worn or ent. Reple ny suspet olts. Alwys fit new loknuts nd spring wshers when repling flils. IMPORTANT ONLY FIT GENUINE BOMFORD TURNER PARTS f If ny flils were missing or loose nd hve een repled or tightened, run the rotor nd retest for virtion. If virtion is still present hek rotor erings s follows: g Stop trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. h Chek rotor shft erings for roughness or signs of slkness. i Reple erings if either of the ove symptoms re found. If virtion persists it is n indition tht the rotor shft is proly ent nd must therefore e repled. ATTENTION When repling erings or hnging pulley rtios, ensure the entre olt retining the tperlok is fully tightened efore tightening the grusrews holding the tper lok to pulley. Filure to do this my result in the ering rotting on the shft journl. 4 REVERSING THE PULLEYS IMPORTANT IF 1000 REV/MIN PTO OUTPUT IS TO BE USED THE FOLLOWING MUST BE CHECKED AND CHANGED. A B C Ensure the trtor rev ounter is heked nd mrked so tht under no irumstnes n 1000 rev/min PTO output e exeeded. The PTO end yoke will require hnging to 1.3/8-21 spline for 1000 PTO output. Consult your griulturl deler. Chek tht the drive pulleys re set up for 540 rev/min PTO input nd need to e reversed for 1000 rev/min PTO input. Stop trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Remove drive gurds. Slken drive elt tensioner nd remove drive elts. d Remove top pulley y tking out 2 grusrews from the tperlok ush nd using one of them to loosen the pulley y inserting it into the third tpped hole. e f Remove the ottom pulley in the sme mnner s (d) ove. Reple the lower tper lok ush nd pulley on to the rotor shft, eing reful not to disple the drive key. Reple nd fully tighten entre olt efore tightening the grusrews holding the tper lok. Filure to do this my result in the ering rottion on the shft journl. 10-2

Chek pulley lignment nd djust on ly shft if not ligned orretly. Tension drive elts. 5 TENSIONING DRIVE BELTS The rotor shft is driven from the gerox vi V elts whih re djustle for tension. The elts re tensioned y n idler pulley running on the inside of the elts nd re djusted s detiled elow. Lower the mhine to the ground using the trtor hydrulis. Stop trtor engine nd disengge PTO drive. Turn loknut (A) on outside of idler pulley rket in lokwise diretion to otin orret tension. The elt tension is orret when the flt wsher is level with end of inditor(see sketh elow). d Tighten loknuts (A) together. IMPORTANT ENSURE THE BELTS ARE NOT OVER TIGHT AS THIS MAY CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE ROTOR SHAFT BEARINGS AND BELTS. 10-3
