Move the twist grip shifter to ger 4 nd check the indictor window on the cssette pulley to mke sure the 2 yellow setting lines re together (Fig. 3-17c; see lso Fig Adjusting the Rer Hu Shifting). Rotting the Crnk Arms c d Figure Rotting the Crnk Arms In order to fold the StreetStrider for pcking nd trnsporting, one crnk rm needs to e rotted 180 degrees so oth crnk rms re in the sme position. Therefore in order to restore the crnk rms to the correct position for riding, the left crnk rm hs to e rotted 180 degrees reltive to the right crnk rm. To strt, rotte the crnk rms to point rerwrd. With the 8 mm hex wrench, unscrew the one key relese crnk olt on the left crnk rm (Fig. 3-18). Lift the crnk rm off the squre tpered ottom rcket spindle (Fig. 3-18) nd rotte it to the opposite position (Fig. 3-18c), then replce the left crnk rm onto the spindle. Screw the crnk olt ck in with the 8 mm hex wrench (Fig. 3-18d), tightening to 350 inch/ls (29 ft/ls or 39 N/m), to crete secure connection etween the crnk rm nd the ottom rcket spindle. 18

3. Unpcking & Assemly IMPORTANT: For the needed leverge, use 8 mm hex wrench or socket wrench with 8 mm hex it with t lest 6 inch long hndle. Also, mke sure tht some grese is present on the squre spindle to fcilitte crnk rm instlltion nd removl when folding the ETX. The Prk Tool compny provides torque specifictions for screws, olts, nd nuts on icycle prts redhowto.sp?id=88. Aligning the Front Wheels c Figure Aligning the Front Wheels The front wheels need to e ligned so tht they do not point in (toe in) or point out (toe out) they need to e prllel to ech other. IMPORTANT: This djustment my hve een performed t the fctory ut it is good to periodiclly check front wheel lignment. This lignment is importnt for performnce so tke the time to do it correctly. First, insure tht the tires re inflted up to 80 psi. Next, locte the steering linkge rods tht hve sphericl rod end on ech end (Fig. 3-19). The inord rod end hs left hnd threds nd the outord rod end hs right hnd threds. Ech rod end is screwed into the luminum rod nd secured with jm nuts to secure djustments (Fig. 3-19). With tpe mesure, mesure the distnce from the center ri of one tire to the center ri of the other tire on the front leding edge (Fig. 3-19) nd on the rer triling edge (Fig. 3-19c), nd compre the two mesurements. The distnce should e ner 26 ¼ inches. If the mesurements re not equl, use the steering linkge rods (Fig. 3-19) to mke the tires prllel. To do so, hold onto the flts on the linkge rod with 12 mm wrench nd use the other 12 mm or n djustle wrench to loosen the nuts on either end of linkge rod, with left hnd thred inord nd right hnd thred outord. Then rotte the linkge rod one wy or the other nd note tht the tire ngle chnges nd prllel position is chieved. Mke sure tht ny djustment to the right linkge rod is duplicted on the left linkge rod, mintining symmetry. When the leding nd triling edge distnces re equl, clmp the linkge rod with the jm nuts so the rod does not move. Hold onto the linkge rod gin with one 12 mm wrench nd tighten the inord nd outord nuts snuggly using the other 12 mm wrench. Check the distnces one more time to mke sure they re equl. 19

3. Unpcking & Assemly Checking Brke Function Figure Checking Brke Function c Pump up the tires, then check tht the rkes re functionl. To check rer rke, stnd over the StreetStrider fcing forwrd, squeeze right grip rke lever nd push forwrd (Fig. 3-20). If rer tire does not skid, unscrew the rke djustor nut on the right rke lever to mke sure the rer rim is clmped y the rer cliper. To check the front rkes, stnd in front of the StreetStrider, fcing it, nd pull it towrds you. Then squeeze the left grip rke lever, first lightly then hrder (Fig. 3-20). If the vehicle stops moving without pulling to one side, then the front rkes re djusted correctly. If one front wheel stops efore the other, it will pull to the side tht stops first. To djust the rke tht is not stopping, unscrew the rke djustor screw tht is locted t the front of the lck rcket of the drum rke shoe plte (Fig. 3-20c). Unscrew the djustor screw one turn nd repet stopping test gin until the ETX stops without pulling to side. Adjusting the Rer Hu Shifting Figure Adjusting the Rer Hu Shifting c 20

3. Unpcking & Assemly With the twist grip shifter set to 4th ger (Fig. 3-21), the two yellow setting lines in the window on the right side of the rer hu should e ligned (Fig rrow). If not, use the shift cle djustor (Fig. 3-21c rrow) to lign the yellow setting lines. If there is ny indiction tht the gers re not shifting properly fter use, recheck the 4th ger setting nd mke n djustment. IMPORTANT: It is norml for rke nd shifter cles to stretch little fter the first weeks or months of use. Adjusting the rkes nd/or shifter my e required. Instlling the Rer Rck ETX 8r Figure Instlling the Rer Rck ETX 8r c To instll the rer rck tht comes with the ETX 8r, you will need the 4 nd/or 5 mm hex wrenches nd 3 of the remining stinless steel cp screws nd wshers (Fig. 3-22) from the pcket in the smll crdord ox. Position the rck over the rer frme with three securing points (Fig. 3-22,c). The 5 mm hex is for the lrger cp screw with the smooth cp nd wsher tht goes in the middle oss (threded hole) on the frme. Strt to tighten the screw with your fingers. Then position one of the 4 mm hex screws with the ridged cp through the rck hole into the upper drop out hole. Finger tighten this screw. Insert the second screw nd finger tighten. When ll screws re strted, tighten them with the hex wrenches. To instll the ottle cge tht comes with the ETX 8r nd the ETX 3r, use the 2 hex screws in the ox contining the cge on the front top section of the hed tue (not shown). 21

3. Unpcking & Assemly Folding the ETX for Trnsporttion or Storge Figure Folding the ETX for Trnsporttion or Storge c To fold down the ETX hed tue nd secure for trnsporttion or storge, reverse the unfolding procedure. Plce the min frme rectngulr pcking fom piece over the forwrd section of the min frme (Fig. 3-23). Use the 8 mm hex wrench to remove the left crnk rm from the ottom rcket spindle (Fig. 3-23). The crnk olt will first loosen esily s it strts to seprte from the spindle nd then you will feel more resistnce s it pushes ginst the one-key relese cp to remove the crnk rm from the spindle (Fig. 3-23c). When the crnk rm comes off the spindle, rotte the crnk rm 180 (Fig. 3-24) nd instll it ck onto the spindle y screwing in the crnk olt ut do not tighten (Fig. 3-24). Now oth strider skis nd poles re prllel nd cn e folded netly. c Figure Folding the ETX for Trnsporttion or Storge (con t) 22

3. Unpcking & Assemly Figure Folding the ETX for Trnsporttion or Storge (con t) Using the 6 mm hex wrench on the lck cp screw nd the 5 mm hex wrench on the silver rrel nut, loosen the lower screw 1 turn. Then unscrew nd remove the upper nd middle screws in the folding joint of the hed tue (Fig. 3-24c). When the second screw is redy for removl, hold the hed tue ove the joint, remove the screw (Fig. 3-25), then lower the hed tue until it rests on the pcking fom tht strddles the min frme. Remove the silver rrel nuts, comine with the screws nd plce in continer tht won t get lost. To secure the folded ETX, we recommend plcing strp (not included) through the folded pole/ski on one side, then under the min frme nd through the other folded pole/ski on the other side (Fig. 3-25), then tightening the strp cross the front of the joint. This strp round the folded hed tue nd the min frme (Fig. 3-25) will mke the folded ETX more rigid for esy plcement onto rck or into vehicle. Unfolding the ETX is now the reverse of the folding process. IMPORTANT: When the left crnk rm is returned to its riding position, mke sure tht the crnk rm old is tightened to specifictions s shown in Fig Rotting the Crnk Arms. 23
