6 Opertor Sfety / SNOWTHROWERS 6 This snowthrower is cple of mputting hnds nd feet nd throwing ojects. Filure to oserve the following sfety instructions could result in serious injury. Red these sfety rules, nd the sfety rules in your trctor Opertor s Mnul, nd follow them closely. Filure to oey these rules could result in loss of control of vehicle, severe personl injury to yourself, or dmge to property or equipment. The tringle in the text signifies importnt cutions or wrnings which must e followed. Opertor Sfety DANGER Amputtion hzrd The dischrge chute contins rotting impeller to throw snow. Fingers cn quickly ecome cught in the impeller. Never cler or unclog the dischrge chute with your hnds. Alwys use clen-out tool. Filure to oserve these sfety instructions will result in trumtic mputtion or severe lcertion. Hnd contct with the rotting impeller inside the dischrge chute is the most common cuse of injury ssocited with snowthrowers. Never use your hnds to clen out the dischrge chute. To sfely cler clogged dischrge chute, follow these instructions: 1. Shut OFF the engine. 2. Wit 10 seconds to e sure the impeller ldes hve stopped rotting. 3. Alwys use clen-out tool, not your hnds. Generl Red this mnul nd the trctor Opertor s Mnul crefully. Be thoroughly fmilir with the controls nd the proper use of the equipment. If snowthrower is equipped with spring-ssist tension lever, never pull the spring-ssist tension lever ck unless snowthrower is in fully rised position. The spring is under tension when snowthrower is in lowered position. Never llow children to operte the mchine. Do not llow dults to operte it without proper instruction. Do not crry pssengers. Keep the re of opertion cler of ll persons, prticulrly smll children, nd pets. Never direct dischrge chute towrds ystnders. Mke sure ll hrdwre is secure nd tht snowthrower is in good operting condition. Check to e sure ll sfety devices nd shields re in plce. Check tht ll djustments re correct efore using this unit. Preprtion Never ttempt to mke ny djustments while engine is running. Thoroughly inspect the re where the snowthrower is to e operted nd remove ll foreign ojects. Adjust the skid shoe height to cler grvel or crushed stone surfce. See the Mintennce nd Adjustments section for procedure. One wheel weight on ech rer wheel or rer weights is required. Opertion Exercise extreme cution when operting on, or crossing, grvel drives, wlks or rods. Sty lert for hidden hzrds or trffic. Never llow nyone in front of the mchine while it is operting. After striking n oject or if unit strts to virte normlly, stop the engine, disengge the PTO, nd remove the key. Check for the cuse nd ny dm-ge efore restrting. Before ny inspection, mke sure ll moving prts hve stopped. Tke ll possile precutions efore leving opertor s position. Disengge the PTO, lower the ttchment, set the prking rke, stop the engine nd remove the key. Never operte the snowthrower ner glss enclosures, utomoiles, window wells, drop-offs, etc., without proper djustment of dischrge ngle. Do not overlod mchine cpcity y ttempting to cler snow t too fst rte. Never operte unit t high trnsport speeds on slippery surfces. Use cre when trvelling in reverse. Disengge power to snowthrower when trnsporting or not in use. Never operte the snowthrower without good visiility or light. Alwys e sure your feet re properly plced on the footrests nd keep firm hold on the steering wheel.

7 Opertor Sfety / SNOWTHROWERS WARNING Perform the Sfety System Interlock test found in your trctor Opertor s Mnul. If trctor does not pss the test, do not operte the trctor. See your uthorized deler. Under no circumstnces should you ttempt to defet the sfety system. Operting on Slopes WARNING Never operte on slopes greter thn 10. Select slow ground speed efore driving onto slope. Avoid using rkes to control speed. Drive up nd down the fce of the slopes, never cross the slope fce. Use cution when chnging directions nd DO NOT START OR STOP ON A SLOPE. Recommended Accessories Tire chins re recommended when instlling this ttchment to your unit. 8 Assemly WARNING Before eginning ny service work turn off the PTO, set the prking rke, turn off the ignition, nd disconnect the sprk plug wire(s). Initil Instlltion Su-frme Instlltion IMPORTANT: Complete instlltion of su-frme kit, Model No efore proceeding with snowthrower instructions. 4. Line up the support rcket ssemly (, Figure 3) with the front hitch (c). Simultneously line up the locking collr (d, Figure 4) of the drive shft with the spline trnsmission shft (e). c Instll Long Drive Shft 1. Position the long drive shft (A, Figure 1) in front of trctor. f A Figure 1 2. Loosen collr set screws (, Figure 2). Move ering / support rcket ssemly () pproximtely 2 inches wy from weld. Re-tighten collr set screws. Approx. 2 Figure 2 3. Slide the long drive shft (A, Figure 1) in from front of trctor s indicted y rrow. Figure 3 Figure 4 5. Slide the support rcket (, Figure 3) into the front hitch (c) out 1/2. Connect the locking collr (d, Figure 4). Pull ck on the locking collr nd slide the drive shft fully onto the spline trnsmission shft (e). Relese the locking collr nd pull ck on the drive shft until the locking collr locks onto the shft. 6. Slide the support rcket (, Figure 3) ll the wy into the front hitch (c). The support rcket should e touching the front hitch. Tighten cpscrews (f). NOTE: If the support rcket does not touch the front hitch, loosen the collr set screws nd cpscrews. Adjust s needed y sliding the rcket to the front hitch nd retighten the collr set screws nd cpscrews. d e 8

9 Assemly Mount Cle Guide Assemle Dischrge Chute 1. Remove the existing cpscrews nd nuts (, Figure 5). Use the hrdwre to secure the cle guide (B) to the snowthrower ssemly (C). 1. Locte the dischrge chute (D, Figure 6), three chute retiners (), nd screws (). These retiners re pressemled to chute gers. C 2. Dis-ssemle two of the three retiner for ese of instlltion. 3. Cot the top nd ottom of the chute ring with grese nd chute ring gers (see right inset, Figure 6). D x3 c x3 N ep o ro t fo du r ct io n B Figure 6 4. Instll the dischrge chute (D, Figure 6) cpturing the chute ring (c), fcing it stright forwrd over the uger housing. Secure the dischrge chute using the previously dis-ssemled retiners (, Figure 7) nd screws (). Be creful not to over-tighten the screws. D x3 R Figure 5 x3 Figure 7 9

10 Assemly Enle Electric Chute Rottor Ger 1. Slightly loosen the two cpscrews (, Figure 8) securing the electric spout rottor motor rcket (). 2. Adjust the motor so tht it meshes with the dischrge chute ring ger nd tighten the previously loosened cpscrews. 2. Grese the coupler of the smll drive shft (E, Figure 10) nd chin ox input shft () locted on snowthrower ssemly (C). C E Figure 8 Attch Short Drive Shft to Drive Chin Box 1. Position snowthrower ssemly (C, Figure 9) in front of the trctor su-frme. Figure Instll the key (F, Figure 11) into the input shft keywy. 4. Attch the smll drive shft (E) to the input shft (d) ligning key nd drive shft keywy. 5. Ensure the cpscrew holes in the input shft nd drive shft lign. 6. Secure the drive shft using cpscrew (G) nd centerlock nut (H). 7. Instll set screw (I) nd tighten. F H d I G E Figure 11 C Figure 9 10

11 Assemly Snowthrower Instlltion 1. Strt engine nd use hydrulic lever to djust the su frme ttchment lift (, Figure 6) to 1/2 off the ground. 2. Pull the shot pins () ck, unlocking them. 3. Set drive shft (D) on front of su-frme. 4. See Figure 13. Crefully drive the trctor su-frme push r (c) under the snowthrower hitch point (d). IMPORTANT: Use Cution, do not dmge smll drive shft. NOTE: The snowthrower hitch points need to line up side to side with the edges of the push r. The snowthrower hitch points will hng from the top edge of the push r. 5. Slowly lift the snowthrower 1 inch off the ground. 6. Stop engine, lock prking rke nd remove key. D c d Figure 12 Locked (In) Unlocked (Out) Figure See Figure 12. 12 Assemly 8. Check tht shot pins (, Figure 15) re fully seted into push r (c). If the shot pins do not set ll the wy in the Closed / In position repet steps 1-8. Mount Remote Deflector Control NOTE: Red through instructions efore eginning. 1. Open the hood. 2. Cut out the templte (, Figure 17) from ck of mnul. Line templte with edge () nd crese (c) of plstic dshord s shown ove. 3. Mrk nd drill one 9/32 hole (d) using the templte to locte the upper hole. c c d Figure Pull ck on the short drive shft locking collr (e, Figure 16) nd slide the drive shft fully onto the ering ssemly spline shft (f). Relese the locking collr nd pull ck on the drive shft until the locking collr locks onto the shft. f e Figure Attch the remote deflector mounting rcket (J, Figure 18) to the dshord using upper hole. 5. Align center of lower hole to dshed line on templte nd mrk. Remove deflector mounting rcket. Drill second 9/32 hole through rcket using the mrked loction. 6. Insert cpscrews (c) through the rcket (J) nd dshord. Secure with wshers (d) nd nuts (e) on the BACKSIDE of the dshord. DO NOT OVER-TORQUE. Over-torquing my crck the dshord. 13 Assemly Required Accessories Secure Remote Deflector Control Cle nd Wire Hrness NOTE: Perform the following procedure fter the snowthrower is completely instlled for the first time. 1. Insert the deflector control hndle (, Figure 20) into the mounting rcket (J) nd secure the hndle using clevis pin () nd hir pin clip (c). J Required Accessories It is required tht tire chins nd two rer wheel weights or Quick Tch Weights re used. Never operte on slopes greter thn 17.6% (10 ). Recommended Accessories A rer-mounted weight ox cn lso e dded for dditionl trction. The mximum weight dded to the trctor should not exceed 35 ls. per wheel, plus 100 dditionl pounds in the rer weight ox. For opertion on slopes greter thn 15% (8.5 ), Quick Tch Weights, tire chins, nd wheel weights re recommended. Never operte on slopes greter thn 17.6% (10 ). Figure Route the remote deflector control cle (d, Figure 21) nd chute control wire hrness (K) through the cle guide (B). 3. Attch the white connector (e) of the chute control wire hrness to the chute motor plug (f). 4. Attch the other end of the chute wire control hrness to the trctor plug (g) locted under the left foot rest. f e d L K c B Figure 21 g 5. 14 Fetures & Controls A B C D E F G Figure 21 Trctor Controls Before you egin operting the trctor nd ttchment, mke certin you hve: Red nd understood the instructions in the trctor Opertor s Mnul. Become thoroughly fmilir with ll of the trctor controls nd their opertion, including how to sfely nd properly strt nd stop the unit. Prctice driving in n open re, without the ttchment, to ecome ccustomed to the unit. Controls Red nd understnd the instructions in your trctor Opertor s Mnul. Refer to Figure 1 for control loctions. A. Remote Deflector Control: Sets nd locks in the ngle of the chute deflector. B. Reverse Motion Option (RMO) (If equipped): The Reverse Mowing Option llows for mowing (or use of other PTO driven ttchments) while trveling in reverse. If you choose to operte the snowthrower in reverse, turn the RMO key fter the PTO is engged. The L.E.D. light will illuminte, nd you cn then trvel in reverse with the PTO engged. Ech time the PTO is disengged the RMO needs to e rectivted if desired. 14 FH C. Throttle: Sets engine speed. Alwys use FULL throttle. D. PTO Switch: Engges nd disengges the snowthrower. E. Electric Chute Rottor Switch: Rottes the chute right nd left. F. Attchment Lift: Rises nd lowers the snowthrower for trnsport. G. Mid / Rer PTO Selector (Select Models Only): Selects front, rer or oth PTO s. Select forwrd position for snowthrower use. H. Front / Rer Hydrulics Selector Switch: Selects inord or uxiliry hydrulics. Select forwrd position for snowthrower use.

15 Opertion DANGER Do not clen out dischrge chute with hnds. Contct with moving prts inside chute will cuse serious injury. Use clen out tool. Use the following procedure to remove ojects or cler the chute: 1. Stop the engine. Remove the key 2. Wit 10 seconds to e sure the uger/impeller ldes hve stopped rotting. 3. Alwys use clen-out tool. DO NOT use your hnds. WARNING Perform the Sfety System Interlock test found in your trctor Opertor s Mnul. If trctor does not pss the test, do not operte the trctor. See your uthorized deler. Under no circumstnces should you ttempt to defet the sfety system. Checks Before Strting 1. Refer to the Mintennce & Adjustments section of this mnul nd perform ny needed service. Also, refer to the trctor Opertor s Mnul nd perform ny required service. 2. Remove ny ojects from the work re which might e cught in, or thrown y, the uger. 3. Before strting the engine, cler the uger of ny ice which my cuse dmge to the unit. 4. Adjust the deflector nd skid shoes to desired height. See Skid Shoe Adjustment. 5. Mke sure ll hrdwre is present nd secure. Trnsporting 1. Disengge the electric clutch nd then rise the snowthrower. 2. Adjust ground speed ccording to surfce conditions. 3. Select low ground speed when trnsporting on slippery surfce. Engine & Ground Speed Selection Alwys run the engine t full throttle. Normlly, low ground speed is est for throwing snow. The deeper or hevier the snow, the slower the recommended ground speed. Strting & Stopping 1. Strt the trctor engine. Set engine throttle t full speed. 2. Lower the snowthrower. 3. Engge the electric clutch switch. Snowthrower uger should rotte. Disengge the electric clutch switch. snowthrower uger should stop. 4. Select the proper ground speed. 5. To stop the trctor, depress the clutch/rke pedl. To stop the snowthrower, disengge the electric clutch. Before leving the set, stop the engine, disengge the electric clutch, set the prking rke, remove the key, nd wit for ll moving prts to stop. 15

16 Opertion Storge Snow Removl Suggestions WARNING If uger does not strt nd stop when engging/ disengging electric clutch, see your uthorized deler. Under no circumstnces should you ttempt to defet the sfety system. WARNING If the uger stlls or the chute plugs: To sfely cler clogged dischrge chute, follow these instructions: 1. Shut OFF the engine. 2. Wit 10 seconds to e sure the impeller ldes hve stopped rotting. 3. Alwys use clen-out tool, not your hnds. CAUTION Alwys rise the snowthrower efore turning or cking up, to prevent dmge to the unit. Determine the est snow removl pttern efore eginning. Wind direction is n importnt fctor to consider. Rotte the spout to dischrge snow downwind. Pln the pttern so tht you void throwing snow on clered res nd on yourself s you re operting. When lnd contour permits, it is est to trvel in the longest direction to minimize turning. In very deep or hevy snow, it my e necessry to mke the first pss with snowthrower prtilly rised, cking up every few feet to cler the snow left on the surfce. Also, it my e necessry to slice off less thn the full width of the uger or reduce ground speed. If snow stops flowing freely from the spout, ck wy until the snowthrower clers itself. Dily Storge 1. Disengge the electric clutch nd then rise the snowthrower. 2. Adjust ground speed ccording to surfce conditions. 3. Select low ground speed when trnsporting on slippery surfce. Off-Seson Storge WARNING To prevent n explosion or fire, never store the trctor with fuel in the tnk inside uilding where n ignition source is present. 1. Remove snowthrower from the trctor. Hitch cn remin instlled if other ttchments re to e used. 2. Use wter pressure or rush to thoroughly clen the housing. 3. Pint, or lightly cot with oil, ny re where pint hs een worn or chipped wy. 4. Luricte the snowthrower. 5. Store the snowthrower nd hitch in dry plce. 16

17 Mintennce WARNING To void serious injury, perform mintennce on the trctor or snowthrower only when the engine is stopped, prking rke is set nd ll moving prts hve stopped. Alwys remove the ignition key efore eginning mintennce or djustments to prevent ccidentl strting of the engine. Luricte Snowthrower In generl, linkge connections nd other prts tht hve prtil rottionl or sliding movement should e luricted periodiclly with SAE 30 weight oil. Avoid pplying excessive mounts of oil or grese since this my cuse uildup of dirt round the luricted re, mking susequent luriction more difficult to ccomplish. 18 Mintennce Luricte Auger Shft Luricte the grese zerks on the uger shft (, Figure 24) with utomotive lithium grese. Luricte Drive Chin See Figure 25. Luricte the drive chin with lithium grese every 25 hours: 1. Remove the plstic plug from the top of the chin cse. 2. Smer grese on the exposed drive chin working the grese into the links. 3. Rotte the input shft nd grese the next exposed section of chin. Repet until the entire drive chin is luricted. Replce the plstic plug. Plstic Plug 18 c for Figure 24 Check Auger Gerox Oil Level Check uger gerox oil level every 25 hours: 1. Prk trctor on level surfce. 2. Lower snowthrower. 3. Stop engine, lock prking rke, nd remove key. 4. Remove check plug (, Figure 24). 5. Level of oil should e even with check plug. If low, remove fill plug (c), dd Simplicity Winter Weight Worm Ger Oil. 6. Instll nd tighten oth check nd plugs.not fill Figure 25 Inspect Scrper Br 1. Rise snowthrower to highest position. 2. Use sfety lock(s) to secure snowthrower:. Plce sfety lock under ttchment.. Lower ttchment until it rests on lock(s). 3. Inspect loction where scrper r (, Figure 26) meets snowthrower housing. Figure 26 x 6 Reverse Scrper Br 1. Rise ttchment to top height. 2. Plce sfety locks under ttchment. 3. Lower ttchment until it rests on locks. 4. Using 1/2 wrench remove six nuts, wshers, nd olts (, Figure 26). 5. Remove scrper r (). 6. Reverse or replce scrper r. 7. Replce the six olts, wshers, nuts nd tighten.

19 Mintennce Check Sher Bolts Refer to Figure 27 for dischrge fn sher olt (grde 5 hrdness, 5/16-18 x 5/8 ). Refer to Figure 28 for uger sher olt (one in ech uger-specilized, grde 5 hrdness, 5/16-18 x 2-1/2 ). Check for excessive wer. The sher olt will rek if the uger or fn hits solid oject. If this hppens: 1. Stop the snowthrower nd trctor immeditely. 2. Stop the engine, lock the prking rke, nd remove the key. 3. Remove the roken sher olt. 4. Instll new sher olt. Mke sure the replcement sher olt is Grde 5 hrdness. 5. Locte nd correct the cuse of the shering. Skid Shoe Adjustment On smooth surfces such s concrete or sphlt, the scrper r should scrpe the surfce. On surfces such s grvel, the scrper r should e set high enough so tht it will not pick up deris. 1. Loosen the nuts (, Figure 29) securing the skid shoes (). 2. Rise or lower the scrper r to the desired height. Use wood locks to hold the snowthrower in position. 3. Set the skid shoes so tht they re in contct with the ground nd tighten the skid shoe nuts. 20 Trouleshooting WARNING To void serious injury, perform mintennce on the trctor or snowthrower only when the engine is stopped, prking rke is set, nd ll moving prts hve stopped. Alwys remove the ignition key efore eginning mintennce or djustments to prevent ccidentl strting of the engine. Locte the prolem you ve encountered in the chrt elow. Check the possile cuses one t time in the order listed. Correct ny prolems tht re found nd operte the snowthrower to see if you hve eliminted the prolem. 21 Snowthrower & Hitch Removl Snowthrower & Hitch Removl NOTE: Whenever removed, instll clevis pins, hitch pins, clips nd hrdwre onto snowthrower nd hitch for storge. 1. Strt engine nd use hydrulic lever to lower the sufrme ttchment lift. 2. Fully lower the ttchment lift until snowthrower slightly contcts the ground. 3. Disconnect the short drive shft (D, Figure 30) y pulling ck on the locking collr () nd then pulling the shft off. 6. Remove cpscrews (, Figure 32), wshers () nd nuts (c) from the remote deflector mounting rcket control (E) mounted on dshord. E c D Figure Disconnect the white connector (, Figure 31) of the chute control wire hrness to the chute motor plug (c). 5. Disconnect the other end of the chute wire control hrness to the trctor plug (d) locted under the left foot rest. c Figure Detch the snowthrower (d, Figure 33) from the snowthrower hitch (e) y moving the shot pins (f) into unlocked position. 8.
