CHAPTER 3: MULTIPORT VALVE OPERATION Recirculte Rinse Winter Filter Bckwsh Wste Closed 1. Filter: Position for filtering the ody of wter. Incoming wter from the piping system is utomticlly directed y the Multiport Vlve to the top of the filter ed. As the wter is pumped through the filter snd, dirt nd deris re trpped y the filter ed, nd filtered out. The filtered wter is returned from the ottom of the filter tnk, through the Multiport Vlve nd ck through the piping system. 2. Bckwsh: Position for clening the filter medi. Wter flow is reversed y the Multiport Vlve through the filter ed so tht wter flow is directed to the ottom of the tnk nd up through the filter ed, flushing the previously trpped dirt nd deris out the wste line. 3. Rinse: Position for flushing the filter system. The wter flow is directed y the Multiport Vlve through the filter ed nd out the wste line. This process settles the filter medi ed into plce nd ensures ny dirt or deris is rinsed out of the filter, preventing possile return to the Swimming Pool or Sp. 4. Wste: Position for ypssing the filter ed to Wste. The wter flow is directed y the Multiport Vlve stright to the ckwsh outlet, ypssing the entire filter ed. This Multiport Vlve position is used to lower the wter level or for vcuuming wter with high dirt lods. 5. Re-circulte: Position for ypssing the filter ed to the Swimming Pool or Sp. The Mulitport Vlve recircultes wter flow directly ck to the Pool or Sp, ypssing the filter. 6. Closed: Position for closing ll flow to the filter. This position is not to e used with the pump operting. CAUTION: Opertion of the Multiport Vlve or mode selection is to e lwys done with the pump switched off.

Once wter flow is stedily exiting the wste line, run the pump for t lest one minute. The initil ckwshing of the filter is recommended to remove ny impurities or fine snd prticles in the filter medi. 4. Turn the pump off. Set the Multiport Vlve to the RINSE position. Switch on the Pump nd llow it to run until wter in sight glss is cler - pproximtely 10 to 15 seconds. 5. Switch off the Pump. Set the Multiport Vlve to the FILTER position nd Switch on the Pump. Your filter is now operting in the norml filter mode. 6. Adjust pool suction nd return vlves to chieve desired flow. Check the pluming nd filter for wter leks nd tighten connections, olts, nd nuts, s required. NOTE: During initil clen-up of the pool wter, it my e necessry to ckwsh frequently due to the unusully hevy initil dirt lod in the wter. 7. Record the pressure guge reding (strt up pressure) during initil opertion. After period of time, the ccumulted dirt nd deris in the filter cuses resistnce to flow, nd the flow diminishes. The pressure will strt to rise nd the flow of wter will strt diminishing. When the pressure guge reding is 8-10 PSI higher thn the initil Strt up pressure, it is time to ckwsh (clen) the filter (see Bckwshing). NOTE: To prevent unnecessry strin on piping system nd vlve, lwys shut off the pump efore switching filter control vlve position. To prevent dmge to the pump nd filter nd for proper opertion of they system, clen pump striner nd skimmer skets regulrly. CHAPTER 5: BACKWASHING The function of ckwshing is to seprte the deposited prticles from filter medi grins nd flush them from the filter ed. Bckwshing is chieved y reversing the flow of wter through the filter ed t firly high flow rte. This high flow rte expnds the filter ed nd the wter collects the deris tking it to wste. Conditions for Bckwshing Time for ckwshing is determined y the following conditions: 1. The flow rte through the filter ed decreses until it is insufficient to meet the demnd. 2. The removl efficiency of the filter ed decreses to the point where the effluent qulity deteriortes nd is no longer cceptle. 3. When the pressure guge reding is 8-10 PSI higher thn the strt up pressure. 4. If the filter is connected to the wter min, pressure rise is not n ccurte indictor s wter min pressure tends to fluctute. It is est to rely on the ctul flow rte. NOTE: We recommend tht you ckwsh swimming pool snd filter in residentil instlltion t lest once month. Importnce of Bckwshing The importnce of ckwshing cnnot e overstted. Dense filter medi cn ecome pcked without proper nd frequent enough ckwshing. Deris will remin trpped nd crete chnneling within the filter ed. This will result in the filter ed exhusting erly. Moreover, if deris is not flushed from the medi grins, the filter ed will ecome dirtier nd dirtier s time goes on until the filter opertion fils. Bckwshing Instructions 1. Switch off the Pump. Close the Inlet Vlve. NOTE: If pump is instlled, switch the pump on nd off, insted of closing nd opening the Gte Vlve. 2. Relese the filter s pressure y loosening Pressure Relese Vlve until the Pressure Guge needle drops to zero <0>. 3. Retighten Pressure Relese Vlve. 4. Depress nd turn Hndle 180º to the BACKWASH position. In the BACKWASH position, the wter flow is utomticlly reversed through the filter so tht it is directed to the ottom of the filter vessel, up through the snd, flushing the previously trpped dirt nd deris out the wste line. 5. Switch on the Pump. Bckwsh wter will flow out through drin pipe. 6. When the ckwsh wter in the sight glss ppers cler, switch off the Pump.

5 7. Depress nd turn the hndle to the RINSE position. In the RINSE position, the wter flow is directed through the filter ed nd out of the filter through the ckwsh outlet. This process settles the filter medi ed into plce nd ensures ny dirt or deris is rinsed out of the filter, preventing possile return to the pool. 8. Switch on the Pump. Rinse wter will flow out through the drin pipe. 9. When the rinse wter in the sight glss ppers cler. Switch off the Pump. 10. Depress nd turn the hndle to the Filter position nd switch on the Pump. CHAPTER 6: MAINTENANCE The filter medi will only require replcement once it hs reched the limits of its designted life. Refer to the product informtion of the prticulr filter medi used. To ensure the mximum life of the selected filter medi, plese follow the procedures elow. 1. Bckwsh the filter regulrly ccording to the instructions set under BACKWASHING. 2. Mintin correct chemicl lnce for your pool or sp s wter. The chemicl lnce of the wter is reltionship etween its ph, Totl Alklinity, Clcium Hrdness nd wter temperture. The wter must e mintined to the following: - ph Level: Totl Alklinity: ppm - Clcium Hrdness: ppm CHAPTER 7: TROUBLESHOOTING Aove norml or excessive force to operte the Multiport Vlve: Scoring or jmming with foreign mtter or deris. If this condition persists fter rinsing, disssemle the vlve to cler. Continued opertion of the vlve my result in non-seling condition (dmge to spider gsket). This will led to wter loss to the ckwsh line or to inefficient filtrtion. Dirty Wter: 1. Insufficient filtrtion time. 2. Hevy contminnts or dirt lod. 3. Dirty filter, requires ckwshing. 4. Air leking on suction (influent line). 5. Pump impeller vnes locked. 6. Insufficient wter supply (wter level low, lockge). 7. Pump not primed. 8. Incorrect wter chemistry. 9.
