2 SOUTHERN GEORGIAN BAY DETACHMENT CORPORATE & EMERGENCY SERVICES REPORT Suthern Gergian Bay OPP 2016 Annual Reprt Gergian Bay Twnship As Detachment Cmmander fr the Suthern Gergian Bay Detachment, it gives me great pleasure and pride t present ur 2016 Year End Reprt. Thrugh detachment actin planning, lcal analytics and regular reprting mechanisms, we hld urselves accuntable t ur cmmunities, partners, elected cuncils and ur plice services bard marked the third and final year f the OPP Actin Plan ( ) prcess. The Suthern Gergian Bay Detachment Actin Plan fr is presently being develped in cnsultatin with the municipalities we serve, ur plice services bard and members f the cmmunity. The plan will be peratinally fcused, respnding t unique lcal cmmunity safety cncerns and plicing needs. Lcally, Ontari s Mbilizatin and Engagement Mdel f Cmmunity Plicing has been embraced and was implemented n numerus ccasins thrughut the last year. We cntinue t utilize an analytical apprach in reviewing bth traffic and crime related infrmatin and trends. In 2016 we cmpleted 14 Fcused Patrls thrughut the detachment area that resulted in 450 hurs f dedicated patrl and 148 charges. This analysis, cupled with resulting intelligence, cntinues t better psitin us t strategically deply ur resurces and maximize ur impact and efficiencies. In 2016 we launched the Nrth Simce Situatinal Table, we implemented a lcal Vulnerable Persns Registry and we hsted the Annual Festive RIDE Red Ribbn kick-ff in the Twn f Penetanguishene, all integral t healthy and sustainable cmmunities frm a public safety perspective als saw cntinued reinvestment lcally that further benefits the cmmunities we serve. After a pilt prject a tw member dedicated traffic management team was created frm already existing internal psitins. In rder t keep ur rads, trails and waterways safe, we cntinue t analyze trends in a bid t assign ur members t the right place at the right time t target specific public safety cncerns. Frm mid-april t late Nvember ur full-time dedicated Marine Unit patrls apprximately 1,200 square kilmeters f water respnding t calls fr service and engaging the bating cmmunity regarding safe bating practices. Cme winter, we prvide supprt and versight n ur trails thrugh dedicated mtrized snwmbile patrls. The OPP delivers all f these services while remaining very cgnizant f the ecnmic envirnment it is perating in. We are cmmitted in prviding municipalities with cst-effective and prfessinal plice services. The cntinued dedicatin f all ur members, bth civilian and unifrm tgether with the supprt and gvernance f ur lcal plice service bard and municipalities are integral fr ur cntinued success in keeping ur cmmunities safe. 6 Auxiliary Prgram: Missin Statement: T prvide fully trained vlunteer Auxiliary Members t perfrm plice duties in special circumstances including emergencies Suthern Gergian Bay Detachment has 11 auxiliary members. Auxiliary members prvide a valuable service t ur cmmunities and in 2016 they prvided an average f 174 vlunteer hurs per mnth fr a ttal f 1,909 fr Lcally, ur members assisted with many cmmunity events including parades, cncerts and Winterama weekend events. They may assist OPP fficers with the fllwing: Cmmunity plicing initiatives and prjects, Regular patrl, Crime and disaster scenes, Large gatherings r parades fr crwd and traffic cntrl, and Traffic accidents. Of special mentin is that Auxiliary Sergeant Nancy Mreau was recgnized in 2016 at the OPP Central Regin Awards Ceremny held in Barrie. Nancy received a Life Saving Aware fr saving the life f a small infant that had experienced a seizure in Victria Harbur in May f An extremely prud day fr Nancy, her family, Suthern Gergian Bay Detachment and f curse the family invlved. Nancy was interviewed by the lcal media and appeared n the 6 clck news later that day. Plicing ur Waterways The Suthern Gergian Bay Detachment f the Ontari Prvincial Plice is respnsible fr plicing 1,200 square kilmeters f water, including the suthern prtin f Gergian Bay, a sectin f the Trent Severn system and several inland lakes. The detachment prvides marine plicing services t the waterways in ur area frm mid-april t December. Our dedicated unit is cmprised f 10 marine trained fficers and assisted by 2 summer students. The detachment has 5 vessels ranging in size frm 14 t 32 feet in length. The Suthern Gergian Bay O.P.P. Marine Unit enfrces a number f relevant pieces f legislatin including: the Criminal Cde f Canada, the Canada Shipping Act (2001), the Small Vessels Regulatins, the Vessel Operatin Restrictin Regulatins, the Trespass t Prperty Act and the Liqur License Act. Our fficers are experienced marine peratrs wh knw the issues f cncern t cttagers and baters within ur area. The Suthern Gergian Bay marine unit wrks clsely with many ther specialized units including: OPP Underwater Search and Recvery Unit (USRU); OPP Emergency Respnse Team (ERT); Canadian Cast Guard; Prvincial and Federal Wardens and ther Municipal Plicing agencies. In 2016 ur Marine Unit respnded t 342 Calls fr Service. We cnducted 645 Vessel Inspectins and laid 119 charges under varius acts, plus laid 1 Impaired Care r Cntrl Charge. We cnducted 1,764 Marine Patrl Hurs. Public Service hurs ttaled 31 and Cttage Checks ttaled 103.

7 Snw Machine Summary: The Suthern Gergian Bay Detachment f the Ontari Prvincial Plice is respnsible fr plicing apprximately 200 kilmeters f grmed OFSC snw vehicle trails as well as respnding t issues n the frzen waters f Gergian Bay, Six Mile Lake and several ther inland lakes did nt ffer us a gd seasn as far as favrable weather fr Mtrized Snw Vehicle patrl. It was a shrt, quick seasn with very little snw and very dangerus ice cnditins. There were ver 450 snw machines checked resulting in 36 charges and apprximately 40 educatinal warnings. The Suthern Gergian Bay OPP snw machines were invlved in a number f incidents thrughut the seasn. We cnducted 161 hurs and patrlled 727 kms. The snw machines were als deplyed t Penetanguishene fr the annual Winterama weekend event.
