7 Thermal expansion All materials expan or contract with an increase or ecrease in temperature. uring the esign an installation of Aquasystem, it is important to calculate the change in length cause by the ifference in the operating temperature an installation temperature. The amount of expansion or contraction is epenent on the coefficient linear expansion, α, which is the elongation of a 1m length of pipe for a temperature increase of 1 C. Check the fusion temperature Once the socket fusion machine is on an has been allowe to heat up, check the fusion temperature, which must range between 253 C an 274 C. The temperature is checke using Tempil sticks. The yellow stick melts at 253 C an the re stick melts at 274 C. When the yellow stick melts an the re one oes not melt, the heater bushes are at the correct temperature for the fusion. After checking the fusion temperature, wipe the heater bushes with a clean lint free cloth. 6. Heat the pipe an fitting Push the pipe an the fitting simultaneously onto the heater bushes up to the insertion epth mark (this must remain visible). The pipe an the fitting are hel on the heater bushes with a gentle pressure an kept straight an level. A timer shoul be use to ensure the correct heating time (see table below) has elapse. 7. Joint the pipe an fitting Align the pipe an fitting an bring them together. Push the pipe into the fitting up to the insertion epth mark (which must remain visible). o not twist the pipe whilst pushing together. Maintain a gentle pressure whilst holing. 8. Fusion inspection Inspect the outer fusion bea. An even bea from the fitting an one from the pipe shoul be visible all the way aroun the pipe. Ensure the newly mae joint remains stressfree until the cooling time (see table below) has elapse them together for the correct time (see table below). Mark the insertion epth Mark the insertion epth into the fitting on the pipe. 5. Insert the pipe into the fitting Insert the scrape pipe ens into the fitting up to the insertion epth mark. Align both ens of the pipe an secure the fitting an the pipe. 6. Attach the electrofusion machine cables Attach the clamps to make the connection between the cables an the resistor pins on the fitting. 37 Butt fusion jointing 1. Preparation of the fusion joint The fusion temperature shoul be between 200 C an 220 C. In principle, the upper temperature shoul be aime at for thick walls an the lower temperature for less thicker walls. 2. Cut the pipe Cut the pipe at a right angle if necessary remove swarf from the insie. 3. Clean the fitting an pipe Clean the face of the fitting an the pipe using Tangit KS cleaner an a lint free cloth (any irt or grease on the fitting or pipe can result in a joint failure). 4. Clean the heating element Clean the heating element with a ry, clean paper before each fusion joint. Protect the working surface of the heating element from becoming soile. Clean both faces of the heating element with ry, lint-free cloth before each fusion joint. Protect the heating element from win, amage an soiling uring the intervals between making fusion joints. Before machining the jointing surfaces, make sure that the tools an the work pieces are clean an greasefree beyon the actual zone; if necessary, clean with a cleaning flui. This step is complete when there is no unmachine area left on either of the parts to be joine. This is normally the case when no more shavings come off the machine surface. Remove any shavings which may have fallen into the pipe or fitting with eg. a brush. The fusion surfaces shoul not be touche by han uner any circumstances. Otherwise they must be cleane with cleaning flui. Once they have been machine, the parts are move together until they touch. The gap between the two parts must not excee 0.5mm at any point. 6. Check the wall alignment an gap The alignment of the two parts shoul be checke at the same time. A possible misalignment on the outsie must not excee 10% of the thickness of the wall. If this limit is exceee, a better clamping position is to be sought, eg. by rotating the pipe. In such a case, however, the surface must be re-plane. IMPORTANT: The fusion surfaces must be plane immeiately prior to jointing. 5. Planing & Subsequent Checking Before machining the jointing surfaces, make sure that the tools an the work pieces are clean an grease-free beyon the acutal fusion zone; if necessary, clean with a cleaning flui. All the components clampe into the fusion jointing machine are plane simultaneously with the planer provie. The shavings shoul not be thicker that <0.2mm. 7. Fusion jointing proceure Once it has attaine the fusion temperature, position the heating element in the fusion jointing machine. Press the parts to be jointe against the heating element with the force require for equalisation until the entire circumference of each of the jointing faces rests. Once the heating perio has elapse, remove the parts from the heating element which shoul be remove without touching the jointing surfaces an push the parts together immeiately. The changeover time must not excee the value liste in the table.
