Bearing ousings an Mounting accessories bearing housing is a moule which contains the following components: a housing mae of cast iron or special materials, 2-part or compact, that can be screwe onto the mounting surface with bolts; one or several bearings, which is/are mounte either irectly onto the shaft or which is/are attache with the ai of an aapter sleeve; a sealing system to protect the bearings in service; a evice for re-lubrication of the bearings uner running conitions. ousings ousing esign The bearing housing esign is available in two basic versions: as a 2-part bearing housing with an integrate self-aligning or spherical-roller bearing; as a compact unit with an integrate self-aligning or spherical-roller bearing, but also with a bearings or a combination of several other bearings. long with this funamental classification, the SNR bearing housings are also ifferentiate in terms of plummer block housings, suspene housing, ouble or triple bearing housings an flange bearing housings. Material The housings are mae of grey cast iron as stanar. For special applications spheroial cast iron or cast steel in various qualities are also available. Similarly, various steel materials as well as other application-specific materials can be use. For special requirements it is also possible to coat the housing surfaces. In such cases please ask us for specific elivery options. Painting ll SNR bearing housings are painte in blue (R 7031 an R 5010 for series SD). ll externally-locate surfaces are painte, i.e. incluing the unersie an - in part - the housing's bolting surface. 5 Bearings Bearings with cylinrical bores Bearings with cylinrical bores are mounte irectly onto the shaft. shaft fit is to be selecte that matches the application an bearings use. The bearing itself must however be firmly mounte onto the shaft. n SNR inuction heating evice shoul be use (see annex p. 59) to mount the bearing. Cylinrical bearings require a shaft shouler as a contact surface within the housing. This in turn means that the iameter of the inlet or outlet bore in the housing generally eviates from the iameter of the bearing use. Bearing with tapere bore Bearings with a tapere bore are mounte onto the shaft with the ai of an aapter sleeve. ere the tolerance of the shaft may be higher than for bearings with a cylinrical bore. Funamentally, bright-rawn shafts may be use (fit h7 - h9). The bearing ring is fastene onto the sleeve by clamping it axially. 6 Sealing Systems Felt strip seal The felt strip, as uner DIN 5419, is the reliable stanar sealing for many SNR bearing housings. It is easy to fit an can be use for circumferential spees up to 5 m/s, after a running-in perio (approx. 2 hours) up to 15 m/s. Felt seals are suitable for grease lubrication an temperatures of -20 to +100 C. t higher temperatures up to approx. 300 C we will be please to offer you a selection of special materials.* V-ring seal Bearing housings which are processe on the front en can be equippe with a V-ring seal. We mainly use V-rings in combination with felt strips. Instea of a felt strip a ouble lip seal can also be use. They provie aitional an inexpensive protection against the ingress of moisture into the bearing housing. V-rings can be use for circumferential spees up to 15 m/s. They are mae of nitrile rubber (NBR) an suitable for temperatures up to 100 C. Special materials are available on request for higher temperatures (e.g. Viton).* These sealing variants are not only suitable for grease lubricate housings, but also as an auxiliary sealing for oil lubricate bearing housings. En cover If the shaft ens in the housing then this is to be seale with a cover. En covers are mae of grey cast iron an fitte with a felt strip. They are suitable for temperatures up to 100 C. Double lip seal Each SNR bearing housing can accommoate a ouble lip seal in the ring groove (where available). 7 rease ubrication Sealing compoun rease ubrication In the overwhelming majority of bearing housing applications grease lubrication is use for the bearing location. Depening on the service case, the initial grease application when fitting shoul last for a bearing service life. t higher loas, temperatures or spees the volume of the lubrication meium loses its lubricating capability in the course of service as a consequence of mechanical loa, ageing an increasing contamination. In this case grease must be ae to or change. If the service case emans regular lubrication then all SNR bearing housings can be equippe with grease nipples. Several of our housings are alreay equippe as stanar with one or more grease nipples. If this shoul prove insufficient, we woul recommen the use of the SNR grease bushing (see annex). This will ensure that there is continuous re-lubrication of the bearing positions for up to 12 months. If it is necessary to re-lubricate the bearing housing, there is a risk that too much grease may be left in the interior of the housing. The consequence of this can be an increase in bearing temperature up to overheating of the bearing. To prevent this some SNR bearing housings, in particular at high operating temperatures, have grease regulation iscs inserte in them. The grease regulation isc ensures that any excess grease is remove an thus prevents any excessive grease application to the bearing. For every re-lubrication process the relubrication quantity an compatibility of the new grease with the existing grease must be observe. Information hereto is available in the following tables. Oil lubrication Oil lubrication is much more extensive than grease lubrication. Devices for oil supply an for monitoring the oil level must be provie. In the event of an oil circulating lubrication a pump is also require to generate the oil flow. part from this greater effort is require to seal the housing. We recommen oil lubrication in the following instances, if: the operating conitions for a bearing (e. g. high spees) no longer permit grease lubrication; issipation of the bearing position heat must take place over the lubricant; other machine elements, such as, e.g. gears, require oil lubrication. Mineral oil base oils are mainly use in the lubrication of bearings. t particularly high or low temperatures we recommen synthetic base oils. The viscosity of the lubrication oil is primarily geare towars the prevalent temperature influences. Uner normal operating conitions (room temperature < 25 C) the require viscosity at 40 C is roughly mm 2 /S. t higher room temperatures (30-50 C), in small rooms with low air circulation an/or external heating the require viscosity at 40 C is approx mm 2 /S. higher viscosity shoul be selecte, if: more unfavourable heat issipation conitions prevail; the ratio is F a /F r > e; the operating spee less than 20% of the spee limit. t spees that are higher than 70% of the spee limit, a lubrication oil with a lower viscosity shoul be use. 8 9

8 Raial clearance reuction when installing SNR spherical roller bearings with tapere bore Bearing Clearance Double-row spherical roller bearings with tapere bore (moels K, K, K with concentricity 1:12 an moel K with concentricity 1:30) can be fitte with an aapter sleeve or a withrawal sleeve, an irectly in the event of a tapere shaft. The mounting process causes the inner ring to be expane an this in turn reuces the raial clearance. The remaining bearing clearance must be checke after mounting is complete. ow to measure it: 1.) Caution: One may not perform the measurement on a grease bearing, because the thickness of the lubrication film prevents an accurate measurement from being mae. 2.) Tools: Check the bearing clearance using a feeler gauge. One slies the gauge between the outer ring an rollers. For bearings with a large raial clearance one may not use feeler gauges of more than 0.15 mm, because they are too rigi to be aapte to the spherical bearing surface. ere one shoul use several smaller tabs together to achieve the esire thickness. Checking clearance before mounting: Place the bearing in a vertical position, so that at both sies the rollers abut with the closing eges of the outer ring. Turn the inner ring by han an apply a raial loa in the vertical irection. Determine the theoretical raial clearance with the ai of the table. Slie the gauge between the relieve, i.e. the upper rollers an the outer ring. Now one has to start checking with the smallest gauge between the rollers an the outer ring. The thickness of the gauge is now increase in increments. The raial clearance lies between the last gauge, which can be move between the roller an outer ring, an the gauge, which is stuck between the roller an the outer ring. Do not wash the bearings! Mating Structure The flatness tolerance of the bolting surface of our bearing housing shoul be IT7, relative to the housing foot iagonal. For surface roughness we recommen Rz 100 µm. Mounting Bearings On The Shaft Bearings with cylinrical bores One makes a ifferentiation between mounting in a warm or col conition. The type of mounting process is geare towars the bearing sizes, whereby bearings with small iameters shoul be col an bearings with large iameters shoul be warm when mounte. The use of an SNR inuction heating evice* enables the bearing to be heate to the prescribe temperature, in orer to mount it easily onto the shaft. When mounting col a hyraulic press or other ai shoul be use. When mounting with a mounting sleeve an hammer make sure that the loa is always applie to the fixe bearing ring. The grease regulation isc must be mounte onto the shaft before the bearing is mounte. fter mounting the bearing, check whether the shaft shoulers contact each other. Slie the bearing onto the sleeve an then fit the lock washer an nut. Do not yet tighten the nut. Slie the pre-mounte bearing with the sleeve into the esire position on the shaft. The floating bearing shoul always be in the centre of the housing. To check this one can place the shaft provisionally into the housing. Now the aapter sleeve can be tightene with the ai of a hook spanner. While tightening the reuction in clearance in the bearing must be constantly checke with the ai of a feeler gauge. The specifie clearance reuction is available in the SNR mounting car or you can rea off the necessary isplacement. Self-aligning ball bearings are clampe until the clearance is almost zero an the outer ring can still be swivelle by han. The nut of the aapter sleeve is etermine by bening a tab of the lock washer in a groove of the nut. The bearings are then fille with the require quantity of grease. 10 SNOE Plummer Block ousings (oil version) Oil version plummer block housings of moels SNOE 200 an SNOE 300 are mounte with spherical roller bearings with cylinrical bore of the or series. Oil lubricate plummer block housings are suitable for high spees an are, e.g. use in the ventilator inustry. Designs SNR supplies these plummer block housings in esign with a seale cover for the shaft ens an in esign B with open cover for through shafts. Plummer block housings can be orere as floating bearing (, B) an locating bearing (F, BF). The floating bearing function is safeguare through the housing aaptation (6). 11 Mine Car Bearing ousings TVN Plummer Block ousings TN 200 TVN Stanar Design SNR mine car bearing housing moels TVN 200 an TVN 300 are equippe with self-aligning ball bearings from the 1200, 1300 series or eep groove ball bearings from the 6200, 6300 series. They are primarily use as journal bearing sets for mine cars. SNR supplies these plummer block housings in esign with a seale cover for the shaft ens an in esign B with open cover for through shafts. Both esigns are available as floating an locating bearings. This bearing unit is frequently use in rough environments. To provie the bearing here with special protection two felt strips are fitte into the cover an the housing. The housing can accommoate a shaft misalignment of up to 0.5. Moel TN 200 plummer block housings are single-piece housings an are mounte with self-aligning ball bearings with a wie inner ring. They are primarily use in agricultural engineering. The housings are equippe with covers mae of grey cast iron an seale with felt rings. For re-lubrication purposes an M10x1 threae bore is provie, which is close at elivery with a screw plug. TVN ousings For igh Temperature pplications SNR provies these housings as floating bearings only in esign with seale cover. When use in high temperatures a special sealing system is require. It consists of two hot steam packagings locate between the housing an shaft an an aitional flat seal between the cover an housing. Basically, there are two fiels of application: 1. San-lime brick inustry (environment: hot an moist) 2. Other high temperature applications, e.g. clinker harening plants (environment: hot an ry) For eployment in san-lime brick harening shops the SNR eep groove ball bearings from the 6200 F605 an 6300 F605 series are use. For sealing an lubrication the special lubricant OSTFON TF 1645 is use. We recommen filling the entire housing. The lubricant penetrates the smallest gaps in the bearing an forms a protective lubricating film there, which simultaneously protects the housing from insie against any moisture ingress. For ry high temperature applications SNR eep groove ball bearings from the 6200 F600 an 6300 F600 series are use; they can be recognise by the black surface. The KÜBER WO- FRSYN UF paste is use here as lubricant. The bearings must be fully grease before they are mounte. In oing so care must be taken to ensure that sufficient lubricant is applie between the raceways an the balls. Once the carrier flui evaporates all that is left on the bearing is a power. 14 Oil ubricate Double Bearing ousings (ZOE) Seal Our stanar versions are supplie with felt strips an V-rings. This sealing combination acts against any grease escaping while simultaneously preventing any ingress of contamination. For other sealing options such as, e.g. labyrinth ring, MM ring, lamellar rings etc., we will also be gla to provie you with technical assistance. For a ouble bearing housing such as moel ZOE two bearings are in a single-piece housing boy as for Z. This means that the alignment of iniviual plummer block housings to each other is no longer require, which in turn rules out any misalignment. Various bearing options are possible. The two most frequent variants are escribe below. Designs Miscellaneous Double an triple bearing housings are also available as special versions in small quantities. It is also possible to make bores for various measurement evices. For a bearing seat fit on the shaft for eep groove ball bearings an cylinrical roller bearings we recommen: up to 100 mm=> k6 over 100 mm=> m6 For angular contact ball bearings a fit of j5 is specifie. The spee limit is etermine in each case by the bearings use! a) ZOE... This esign is equippe with two eep groove ball bearings from the 6200 or 6300 series in supporting bearing arrangement (floating bearing). Next to raial loas, axial loas can only be absorbe in one irection. The aitionally installe spring washer serves to ensure that operation is low noise an smooth, something that is particularly valuable at high spees. For axial loas on both sies or alternating the bearing opposite the spring washer is secure axially. This then makes it a locating bearing. Because of its smooth running, in this case the floating bearing is also axially pre-clampe using a spring washer. ubrication b) ZOE...B For this version a eep groove ball bearing from 6200 or 6300 series is installe on the locating bearing sie an a cylinrical roller bearing NU 200 or NU 300 installe on the floating bearing sie. ZOE bearing housings are lubricate with oil, which is istribute by the rotation of the bearings in the raceways. The housing is basically specifie for oil bath lubrication. For more stringent requirements it can also be operate using oil circulation or oil spray lubrication. n oil level inicator in the centre of the housing enables the oil level to be rea off at any given time when in operation

15 Flange Bearing ousings Sealing System The gap between the housing an the cover is seale with a flat seal. labyrinth with threae seal (in the cover) in the opposite irection to rotation prevents oil escaping between the cover an the shaft. Miscellaneous The housing is fastene on the clamping surface using four foot fastening bolts. The housing foot is equippe with punch marks; these enable the housing to be locate after mounting with the ai of straight pins. The housing boy an the cover are mae as stanar from grey cast iron. Depening on the service case they can also be mae from other materials. Several moels are available in spheroial graphite iron. ocate at each bearing position are three bores for connection of various measurement an monitoring evices. These bores are seale in elivery conition with plastic plugs. Flange bearing housings, moel have been evelope for a wie range of applications. Depening on the application fiel they are mounte with self-aligning ball bearings from the 1200, 2200 series or spherical roller bearings from the series (each with tapere bore). The bearings are fastene to the shaft using aapter sleeves. Design SNR supplies these flange bearing housings in esign with a seale cover for the shaft ens an in esign B with open cover for through shafts. The housings can be orere as floating bearings an as locating bearings. The locating bearing esign is equippe with one or two locating rings. The housing sizes to are available as 3- bolt flange housings, sizes to as 4-bolt flange housings. Sealing Systems n ubrication To prevent the bearing against external contamination an to trap escaping grease, a felt ring or ouble-lip seals are fitte to the cover an in the housing. 16 Flange Bearing ousings F Plummer Block ousings SD 3100 TS Flange bearing housings, moel F are mounte with self-aligning ball bearings with wiene inner ring from the series. They are mainly use for mountings (e.g. in textile machine manufacturing), where simple hanling is require. The housing is seale using two felt rings. For re-lubrication of the bearing the housing comes with an M10x1 threae hole. The bearing seat in the housing is manufacture to a tolerance of 8. To prevent any contact between the mating parts an the housing, the inner ring of the self-aligning ball bearings protrues by 1 mm on the cover sie. Plummer block housings, moel SD 3100 TS are two-piece plummer blocks for shaft iameters of 150 mm to 400 mm. They are mounte with spherical roller bearings with tapere bore from the series. The bearings are fastene on the shaft using aapter sleeves. These housings are use in heavy machine construction, e.g. conveyor systems, conveyor screws, roll crushers etc. Designs SNR supplies these housings in esign with an en cover for the shaft ens an in esign B with labyrinth rings on both sies for through shafts. The housings are available as floating an locating bearings. Up to a shaft iameter = 180 mm locating rings are use on both sies of the bearing for the locating bearing esign. For larger housings the axial fastening takes place in the housing itself. Sealing System Plummer block housings are seale using triple labyrinth rings. For this non-contact seal a roun cor is inserte between the ring an shaft to lift it. Using the roun cor means that the circumferential spee neen t be limite. Shaft misalignments of ± 0.25 relative to the housing are permissible. ubrication The plummer block housings are esigne for grease lubrication an they can be re-lubricate by means of a button hea lubricating nipple DIN /4, which is mounte at the top of the housing. Miscellaneous The ring bolt in the housing cap serves to ease hanling. It may only be loae by the weight of the housing an bearing together
