Rexnord Quality Chains - worldwide Rexnord has been manufacturin chains in many different desins since The exerience ained in many decades as well as consistent research ensures roducts of an advanced desin and a hih deree of deendability. Rexnord manufactures at 3 locations on 3 continents. lare number of atents confirm the extraordinary innovative sirit which bears witness to this comany. Wherever alications of extreme quality are required, Rexnord roducts are there, meetin the hihest of demands. dvantaes of Rexnord Chains chains belon to roducts comlyin the DIN Standard, but contrary to widesread oinion, the quality of a chain is not overned by breakin load, but by the ability to survive reeated oeratin loads and wear life. True quality is measured in terms of fatiue strenth and resistance to wear. This means that in reality, roller chains from different manufacturers the same tensile strenth are not always the same in their quality, desite standardization. The roduction methods develoed and racticed by Rexnord enable an otimum combination of quality-determinin factors such as fatiue strenth and resistance to wear. Rexnord Kette GmbH maintain a quality manaement system which is reflected in the secial commitments to their customers. The quality manaement handbook describes the quality manaement system of Rexnord Kette GmbH. Thereby all Rexnord customers have access to the information how Rexnord realizes and uarantees their roducts. Similarly, all Rexnord emloyees are rovided uidelines, which hel to suort and motivate them in their endeavours to work quality-consciousness. This handbook contains an all-round bindin descrition, which is accordin to the internationally-known DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO Furthermore, rocess details, workin details and testin methods as well as all-round rocessin ractices are available to the emloyees. Rexnord ossesses an environment manaement system accordin to ISO 14001:2005. INTRODUCTION The roducts from Rexnord and its oranisation undero systematic otimization rocesses. Consequently, external and internal feedback is followed eaer interest and market-orientated demands observed a watchful eye, both contributin and correctively imrovin roduction rocesses. 2

RexPro - The standard for quality chains: The new RexPro chain is the result of further-develoin the Rexnord hih erformance chain. Over a timesan of more than 4 years the combination of selected steels, otimized manufacturin and the new RexPro lubrication have all achieved these outstandin roduct characteristics: Pioneerin Corrosion rotection RexPro- chains are a factor of 8-10 times better than the best cometitor for Euroean and sian quality roller chains, tested accordin to the Salt-Sray Test DIN SS. RexPro chains are more than 100% better then the cometitors in the Stiffness Test in aressive surroundins. Imroved wear rotection The new RexPro hih erformance chain ossesses an 8-12% imroved rotection aainst wear in comarison to its revious version. In contrast to existin standard lubrication, the RexPro lubricant offers a more than 150% better rotection aainst cold weldin (DIN 51834). Exceedinly environmentally-friendly The new lubrication for RexPro contains no heavy metals, no Teflon and no Silicon and thereby offers a wide sectrum of alications. 8 Maximum oerational safety Hih case hardness Imroved ressfit Intensive shot eenin The ins and bushes that make u the chainbearin area are furnished an otimally dee hardness layer.this layer is mainly resonsible for increasin, i.e. lenthenin the workin life. Secially selected hih erformance steels enable absolute and uniform, 1st class roduct characteristics. all-driftin of the late bores serves to achieve strain-hardenin of the material. ll unchin flutes and shar edes are simultaneously removed. The resultin effect is a sinificant imrovement in the ress fits and the fatiue strenth. ll ins, lates, bushes and rollers are shot-eened to further imrove the fatiue strenth. This effective cold-workin additionally consolidates the surface and increases the load-bearin characteristics. The RexPro lubrication is comatible commercially available mineral and synthetic oils. n additional advantae is offered by the anti-dri consistency of the new lubricant, even at hih temeratures. Seam-free rollers Hih re-loadin Uniform quality OPERTIONL SFETY 8 Rexnord rollers are characterised by their hih fatiue strenth aainst runnin-in imacts. This has been reached throuh secial heat treatment and intensive shot-eenin. The seam-free surface uarantees an outstandin load-bearin area and smooth, quiet runnin. fter assembly, the chain is subject to a hih tensile load which minimises the initial stretch that all chains exerience durin the first hours of use. The uniform quality of Rexnord chains is not merely ensured by initial and final insections, but also by in-rocess routine testin of the individual comonents.

Rexnord quality features Fatiue strenth The fatiue strenth is defined as the value of the reeated oerational and ulsatin loads, imosed by the srocket olyon effect or chanin loads that the chain can stand out sufferin failure from metal fatiue. To achieve hih fatiue strenth, and not countin on roduction enineerin and materialistic influences - the determination of tensile strenth lays a not unimortant role. When the breakin force is too hih, this can be seen as a disadvantae because it is related to a reduction in the touhness and fatiue strenth values. If the tensile strenth of a chain is increased above a certain value then the decisive value for the fatiue strenth is reduced considerably. Ultimate strenth The stated value iven for ultimate tensile strenth is of little sinificance, because just before reachin the breakin oint - above the yield oint - it will take u a ermanent deformation, renderin the chain unusable. The tensile strenth defines only the limit at which the chain breaks. The chain loses its functionality however lon before this- as soon as it has assed the limit of elasticity. Limit of elasticity The limit of elasticity sets the uer limit under which there is no ermanent lastic deformation which would render the chain unusable. elow this limit loads and oerational shocks cause elastic elonation which lasts only as lon as the loadin effect. Load F in N reakin force Rane of ermanent deformation Finite life fatiue strenth rane Fatiue strenth rane Chain fracture Permanent deformation (defect caused by late deformation) Limit of elasticity Elastic elonation (chain will reain its initial lenth after the chain load has been released) Fatiue strenth limit Fatiue strenth rane Elonation L in mm re you aware that: For desin secifications it is the values for elasticity and fatiue strenth that are of imortance. If required, lease contact Rexnord for these values. ll tensile strenth values for roller, leaf and rotary chains are the minimum values as laid down in the DIN secification; these in fact lay only a minor role in the functionality of the chains. e aware that averae values are unreliable as the basis for desin or decision unless qualified by the tolerance band that can be exected. The German Standards Committee - DIN - demands all tensile strenth values as a minimum value, and this is always fulfilled by Rexnord roducts. QULITY CRITERI 9

chains, merican standard, H-series Small alterations - Hih fatiue strenth Links and are available for all chains. dvantaes of Rexnord "H" chains The ins for Rexnord roller chains of the Heavy series, as well as the merican standard roller chains, are manufactured from hih quality case hardened steel. For both, the surface hardness of ca. 60 HRc uarantees the excellent Rexnord resistance to wear. The lates however are much thicker. They are taken from the next larer chain itch. (see ae 42) Rexnord roller chains in the H (heavy) series have a hiher fatiue strenth of ca. 40 %. The same alies for their ermitted loadin. The statement that there is no difference in the breakin force between merican standard and Heavy series does not affect the above-mentioned 40% hiher ermitted loadin; it is the cross-section of the lates which determines the fatiue strenth and also the ermitted loadin. Chain ins of the NSI series are not considered as critical when lookin at fatiue strenth. They only limit the tensile strenth. Generally, tensile strenth has no relevance for dynamic loadin. It is only sinificant for static loadin conditions for determinin static safety factors. chains, sinle-strand ISO 606 Heavy series hiher fatiue strenth (thicker lates) b1 S T Connectin T-head cotter H K Connectin double cotter U Offset, sinle L Pitch Inner Link late Link late Transverse Overall earin Min. ultimate Weiht Loose NSI- width width thick heiht lenth width area strenth arts Nr. required*) acc.to DIN/ISO min. d 1 max. d 2 max. b 2 max. s e a 1 max. a 3 max. 18 chains, merican standard, HE series Extremely hih shock-resistance Links and are available for all chains. dvantaes of Rexnord "HE" chains Link lates in the Rexnord roller chain HE series make use of the next larest late dimension, ivin them ca. 40 % more loadin caacity (fatiue strenth) in comarison to the standard series. nother difference from standard and H series chains is that the ins used are from throuh-hardened material. They are fullyhardened and their hiher shearin strenth and tensile strenth imrove the ultimate strenth and shock-resistance characteristics. s from throuh-hardened material do not ossess the same hih surface hardness as case-hardened ins of the standard and Heavy series. The result is a slihtly lower resistance to wear. In cases where hih demands are made on the resistance to wear and there is not enouh lubrication, then additional inductive surface hardenin of the in should be considered. The surface hardness will be increased above 60 HRc and thereby - in addition to the hih fatiue strenth and shock-resistance - an excetionally hih resistance to wear will be achieved. 38 Laschenkette For straddle carriers and other extreme demands Laschenkette 64-1 S G a1 s 1 b 3 s2 d 1 d 2 LSCHENKETTE Dirt and rease on roller chains very often leads to the roblem that oil cannot enetrate into the chain bearin surfaces. Under the same maintenance and lubrication conditions Laschenkette can be lubricated much more effectively comared to normal roller chains. The distance that the lubricant has to travel to reach the ins is very much shorter. The otimized clearances also hel to eliminate corrosion roblems (no ittin corrosion on ins). Rexnord Laschenkette are used rimarily for liftin uroses on straddle carriers. The main feature in this new develoment in chains is the elimination of service-life critical chain bushins and the otimisation of the remainin chain comonents. Two main features are: doublin the movable lates stroner ins additional 50 % larer surface area and 85 % larer sectional modulus. Practical tests of Laschenkette on straddle carriers in several orts and on test stands have shown a 3 to 5-times loner workin life that the standard roller chain version. 38

Ex-Works Lubrication 1. Standard Preservation - increased corrosion rotection s a result of drastically increased demands for increased environmental comatibility, Rexnord as a matter of rincile now uses the newly-develoed chain reservation RexPro - VSK 001 on nearly all chains sulied to customers. The advantaes for the chain industry this new standard reservation are: considerably imroved corrosion rotection imroved wear rotection characteristics environmental comatibility corresonds to the strict rerequisites for the environmental manaement certificate acc. to DIN EN ISO and the environmental stiulations of leadin manufacturers suitable for use in the food industry, where direct contact the roduct is not ermitted. RexPro is reistered by the NSF (National Sanitary Foundation) in the cateory H2 suitable for use in the electrical and electronics industry. RexPro conforms to RoHS anti-dri security in surroundin temeratures of u to +50 C Gevenly-sread film thickness (less daner of over-lubrication, more even-wear and corrosion rotection) 2. Lon-life lubrication For use in areas which require hih seeds, e.. in ackain and timber rocessin machines as well as conveyors, the best and most suitable is the "lon-life" STRUCTOVIS - VSK 006. This roduct is a mineral oil-based secial lubricant the looks and viscosity of honey(lease do not taste it!). STRUCTOVIS contains a secial adhesion enhancer, so that the daner of soilin the transorted oods throuh drolets or thrown-off oil by raid runnin chains is drastically reduced or totally avoided. It has ood wear and corrosion-resistance roerties. STRUCTOVIS can be used in temeratures from ca. 0 C u to +120 C. 3. Wax lubrication For use in areas a dusty environment e.. ackain, aer or textile machines as well as alications in the foodstuffs industry- the ideal wax lubricant is VSK 019. This lubricant has a list of secial roduct features: non-dri ri-dry surface wax structure enerally safe to water licensed foodstuffs lubricant NSF H1 reistration lon-life roduct wear rotection The alication temerature rane reaches from ca. -40 C u to +80 C. The roduct can be alied overall, where from time to time technically unavoidable contact foodstuffs is made. Furthermore, the wax is a ood rotector aainst corrosion. Testin in an atmosheric chamber condensin water and chaneable climate (DIN KFW) showed a corrosion level of 0 after 30 cycles (= 720 hrs.). This corresonds to the erformance of hih-quality rust rotective material. It rovides astoundin rotection aainst friction, wear and tribo-corrosion. alication temerature rane varies between ca.-30 C and +130 C LURICTION ND MINTENNCE OF REXNORD CHINS Secial lubrication roducts For secial demands, Rexnord can equi the chains secial lubricants for secial alications. These secial lubricants are alied immediately after chain assembly, to uarantee ood enetration into the chain joints. Chains from stock - these already have the usual reservation - are naturally not suitable for the alication of these secial roducts.to avoid lon delivery times, it is stronly advisable to order these chains in ood time. 44

4. Lubricatin oil for the food industry 5. Hih and low temerature lubrication 6. Hih temerature lubrication 4UH N-VSK 016 has found use as a lubricatin oil for the foodstuffs industry, ossessin the NSF H1 reistration. It is ideally suited for use in the temerature rane from ca. -25 C u to +120 C. This roduct comlies the German Food Law and Commodity Goods Law ( LFG ) and fulfils the demands of the "Guidelines of sec. 21 CFR of FD Reulations". This oil, secially conceived for alication in the food industry, dislays ood wear rotection and EP characteristics as well as a ood behaviour in the cold. In addition to its corrosion rotection, 4 UH also offers a very ood stability aainst aein and oxidation. For temerature ranes between -40 C and +220 C, the roduct to recommend is Synthesco - VSK 012. This can be used for chains workin in sub-zero temeratures, such as e.. in liftin ear in cold storae warehouses as well as on machines in oen air conditions. On the other hand, it can also be used in hih temerature environments, e.. chains in furnaces and dryin equiment. This thermically stable synthetic oil contains secial solid lubricant emerencyrunnin features. For temerature ranes between 0 C and +400 C dry lubricatin effect, a suitable roduct here is Wolfrasyn UL 91 M - VSK 008. It contains a ackae of solid lubricatin comonents such as Molybdenum disulhide. These form a dry "reasy" film followin evaoration above +180 C, which remains "reasy"u to temeratures of +400 C. Useful temerature rane. ca. -50 u to +180 C, i.e. lubricatin u to +400 C (dry lubrication). Note lare ercentae of all alication roblems are covered by the aforementioned roducts. In addition to this list of lubricants, Rexnord offers a further rane of secial solutions. Furthermore, there are isolated cases in which secial questions arise concernin follow-u lubrications. If the need should arise, then et in contact the Rexnord alication consultants, who will listen to all your questions about lubrication and rovide informative answers. Rexnord lication Consultin Rexnord alication consultin has at its disosal many years of all-round exerience - not only on the side of ractical deloyment on site, but also throuh the lare number of examinations and tests in their own research laboratory - this makes it ossible to offer you otimum solutions for your alication. Make use of this advantae. LURICTION ND MINTENNCE OF REXNORD CHINS 45

Lubrication of roller chains Standard reservation - Increased corrosion rotection Simle and unroblematic as the lubrication of drive chains may aear, blame is laid on the user for a lare number of mistakes, miscalculation or lack of knowlede, documented by the lare ercentae of chain defects which can be traced back to lubrication errors. The followin text looks at the most common lubrication errors, their causes and the consequences, tryin to develo a direction towards otimum chain lubrication. The diaram says it all: It is u to you to achieve a 60-fold, a 12-fold or an only inadequate workin life from your chain. Lubrication faults The wearin life of a chain is larely deendent on the lubrication. Unfortunately even today, incorrect lubrication and badly-alied lubricatin roducts that have a counter-roductive effect on lubrication- the result bein hih wear and then remature failure. Statistics have shown that ca. 60 % of all chain defects are traced back to the wron lubrication. In the ast years, the availability of chain lubricants in sray cans has measurably increased- the roblem is most of these sray cans contain a thinner, which evaorates after alication leavin behind a touh, viscous non-flowin film of lubricant. Products the same effect for the chain lubrication are also on offer, but in different forms and containers. Lubrication ractice In ractice, these thickenin non-liquid lubricants achieve the formation of a lube film inside the chain joints at the first re-lubrication, because at this oint in time the as are free for the lubricatin roduct - between the side lates. Later lubrication rocesses only cause additional layers of rease to collect on the surface of the revious lubrication layer, which in the meantime has collected dirt articles, further viscosity and crustin. In the chain joints themselves, it is now no loner ossible for the lubricant to enetrate inwards. The outward aearance of the chain - as is mostly advertised on the can by the maker - ives the user of the corresondin roduct the aearance of an imression that otimum lubrication has taken lace. More than often the oosite is the case. Permitted chain lubrication LURICTION ND MINTENNCE OF REXNORD CHINS Elonation from wear Oeratin time a) dry runnin b) lubrication once out re-lubrication c) temorary dry runnin (re-lubricatin interval too lon) d) inadequate lubrication e) adequate lubrication Investiation results from Dr. W. Coenen at RWTH achen 46

Lubrication check-u Criteria for otimum chain lubrication Lubrication methods Checkin the effectiveness of the lubricant alied can be carried out easily by checkin the in of the connectin. thorouhly lubricated chain in should have a lubrication film on the whole surface and the load-side surface should shine like a mirror after removin the lubricant. If lines or even rust aear, then this is evidence of incorrect lubrication. further indication of oor lubrication is a stiffenin of certain chain s and they are not able to return to a straiht line when under load. Demands on the lubricant To achieve effective lubrication, it is necessary that at each alication, enouh quantities of liquid lubricant can enetrate into the chain joints. Manual lubrication Chain drives a seed of u to ca. 0.5 m/s can be lubricated manually. In this case the oil can be alied a brush (fi. 3), oil can or sray can (fi. 4), which should contain a thin, well-flowin lubricant. Consequences of oor lubrication The use of unsuitable lubricants which under normal conditions are too viscous to enter the chair joints cause dry friction. Furthermore this friction causes the formation of cavities, which then fill condensed water in due course of time. Frictional and surface corrosion caused by the condensed water are the inevitable consequences. Premature chain failures New chains have very little lay between in and bush so corrosion leads to ittin and eventually seizure of the joints. In a first stae the chain joints become stiff, where the in seizes toether the bushin, destruction of the ress-fit between in and late results, i.e. the roller rotates the in in the outer late and destroys the critical ress-fit. This leads to remature failure. Premature wear In less serious cases raid elonation will haen as a result of dry runnin and oxidation- the sins of this are to be seen as the henomenon known as "bleedin" where abrasive red oxide articles form and emere from in the bearin areas. Fi. 2: Cross-section of a chain The chain shown rahically in fi. 2 shows clearly that the lubricatin roduct has to ass throuh a narrow a between the lates, to be able to enetrate into the joints ins and bushes. Chain roller lubricant consumtion is relatively small. Care must however be taken that the oil is alied to the edes of the lates. Lubricant thin mineral, machine, or even motor or ear oil should always to be used. Viscosity The viscosity of the lubricant should be chosen so that it will remain fluid at all oeratin ambient temeratures. Here, the followin oil viscosities of SE 20 u to SE 50 i.e. from 50 to 300 ISO VG at +40 C are to be recommended. The roducts from Rexnord for chain lubrication remain caable of flowin even after alication and still have secial lubricatin characteristics. They offer an otimum solution where demands require manual lubrication. Rexnord Hih Performance Chain Sray "REXOIL" is urosely desined for this task for hard-workin chain drives and liftin chains. Fi. 3: Chain lubrication by brush Rexnord has develoed a new hih erformance chain sray. The lubricant used fulfils all normal demands made today. The water-dislacin characteristic, ood adhesion and outstandin corrosion rotection make this roduct a must for chains that work in the oen air such as liftin chains in fork-lift trucks. Fi. 4: Chain lubrication by sray can Certified acc. to USD-H 2 for the food-roducin industry LURICTION ND MINTENNCE OF REXNORD CHINS 47

Dri lubrication Chain seeds between 0.5 and 1.5 m/s are bestsuited for dri lubrication, fi. 6. lication of the oil is to the uer side of the chain lates as shown in fi. 6. Otimum cleanin of chains If a chain has become so soiled externally that enetration of lubricatin oil is no loner ossible then cleanin the chain is unavoidable. This must be carried out usin araffin derivatives such as dieselfuel, etroleum, cleaner's nahtha etc. Here is a warnin aainst the use of steam cleaners, the use of cold cleansin aents or even caustic and acidic aents.these can lead to direct chain damae. Rexnord hih erformance chain sray is FCKW and CPC-free and is therefore classified as environmentally-friendly. The continuous lubricant alicator uarantees a ortioned oil alication and enables an easy, deendable, economical and environmentallyfriendly lubrication of the chain. Fi. 6: Dri lubrication Summary LURICTION ND MINTENNCE OF REXNORD CHINS 48 Oil bath lubrication Chain seeds from 1,5 u to 8 m/s need oil bath lubrication, fi. 7. For seeds between 4 to 8 m/s an oil-stirrin disc should be installed next to the srocket and only this disc should be immersed in the oil to avoid foamin. Fi. 7: Oil bath lubrication Finally, it should be mentioned that the most imortant function of chain lubrication is to rovide adequate lubrication in the joints. Only thin oils can ensure the required dosae. Larer chains - as from 1½" itch and uwards - require volumes of lubricant not normally available from sray cans. Greases and oils which thicken after alication should not be used.

Comments about the correct choice of chain Decisive factors for the correct choice of chain are the values for the surface ressure and the fatiue strenth. The surface ressure is the most imortant influential arameter for the wearworkin life. The fatiue strenth on the other hand determines whether the chain is absolutely oerationally safe durin its total wearin workin life. The tensile strenth has no real sinificance in decidin the suitability of a chain for a articular alication. It is more concerned a statically determined value, durin which however a chain underoes dynamic loadin situations in ractice. The "Safe answer" to a dynamic loadin can really only be the fatiue strenth. The calculation of the safety of a chain round and about the tensile strenth and a safety factor of, say 3.5 or hiher - leads in all cases to an over or underdimensionin. chain is only then correctly chosen "certainty", when its fatiue strenth is the same or is larer than the loadin. The trouble is that fatiue strenth is in no way mathematically related to tensile strenth. It deends decisively on the quality of the chain and on the number of chain strands i.e. the late combination of the leaf chains. This means that chains the same tensile strenth differ from one another by sometimes more than 100 % in their fatiue strenth, and thereby in their real quality and suitability. The influence of multile-strands is so reconisable that chains the same quality as sinlestrand chains i.e. leaf chains, the late combination 2 x 2 dislays a more than doubled fatiue strenth than a 4-strand roller chain i.e. a leaf chain late combination 8 x 8. The consequence of these facts has to be that individually suited safety factors have to be selected for chains differin late combinations and manufactured quality. Should this really be carried out aroriately, then safety factors from S = 4 u to S = 20 will come into lay. Selection of the correct safety factor will in the end become a decisive safety risk. Rexnord recommends the chain-secific fatiue strenth values and you decide whether the safetyrelevant stiulations are fulfilled your choice of chain. What is better: Take advantae of the all-round exerience of Rexnord for desinin and constructin chain drives. nd lease note: Only the fatiue strenth ives information about whether a chain is "lon-lastin". The tensile strenth is not suitable for safe dimensionin. LURICTION ND MINTENNCE OF REXNORD CHINS 49

Recommendations for use Lubrication Permissible chain wear Chain ulsation The lubrication of chains should be such that they are always covered over the entire surface well-runnin oil, i.e. joint comonents and side lates have to be oily at all times. Chain installation ll srockets formin art of a chain drive have to be installed in such a way that correct alinment is ensured durin the entire oeration. linment can be considered to be sufficient if there are no crossforces actin on the chain. Srocket shafts should be arallel as far as ossible, the max. ermitted deviation bein ca. 3. The chain is exected to run smoothly. Chain tension Each chain must have a certain amount of slack on the return run to ensure smooth and quiet runnin. This return strand should han between ca. 2-3 % of the distance between axes or shafts. The chain drive arranement can then be seen as effective when the drive strand is above and the return strand below. Chain drives reversin oeration should not have any slack as this would cause a delay in the chane of direction. The disadvantae this alication is that the srockets should have at least 21 teeth to avoid unnecessary dynamic loads and excessive noise. If the shaft searation is more than 1 m then both strands have to be suorted by uides(reverse oeration only). Wear between ins and bushes on roller chains as well as between ins and lates on leaf chains causes chain elonation. This should be no more than 3 %. If this value is exceeded, then the chain has to be relaced (3 % = 30mm er metre). If srockets are used numbers of teeth of more than 67, then an earlier exchane is necessary accordin to the formula below. Permissible chain stretch: 200/Z %. Z= number of teeth on lare srocket. Chains should always be exchaned if there are sins of visible damae. If chains are fixed at both ends, e.. on fork-lift trucks, then they need to be measured only alon the workin area. Excessive noise asically chain drives are less noisy than any comarable drive elements. If a chain drive does aear to be too noisy, then faulty desin or maintenance is almost certainly the cause. If such roblems do occur, et in contact Rexnord alication consultin. In certain oeratin conditions chain drives can develo ulsations in both drive and return strands. Such ulsations lead to remature wear and material fatiue as well as increased noise develoment. Here we have to differentiate between vertical and cross-ulsation in the strand. satisfactory solution can be found by fittin uide-rails which adjust the drive chain slihtly from the normal drive direction as well as a suitable number of teeth on the srocket. Hydroen brittleness If heat-treated materials are exosed to hydroen (chemical name H) the material draws the hydroen out of the environment. This rocess leads to decomosition of the molecular structure of heat-treated steel. ll chains and roller bearins are affected by this henomenon. Many chain users miht have been surrised by side lates becomin brittle and breakin out deformation or any sin of overloadin. If there is free hydroen in the atmoshere, such breakaes cannot be avoided. Free hydroen can be roduced by for examle the followin rocesses: 1. contact between metals and acids, e.. H2SO4 + Fe = FeSO4 + 2H 2. electrolytic rocesses It is therefore "rather" danerous to use electrolytic rocesses cadmium, chromium or tin on already finished chains. Rexnord solves such roblems by secial rocedures durin manufacture. ttention: Slackness is measured on the uer hanin chain. Chains metallic surface rotection RECOMMENDTIONS FOR USE Should you require secial corrosion rotection throuh surface treatment, then et in contact the secialists at Rexnord alication consultin. 50
