General data Introduction This data booklet deals with the Grundfos UPM, UPM GEO and UPMK roduct ranges: Standard in-line housings UPM xx- UPM xx- UPM xx-6 UPM xx-7 UPM xx-7 UPM GEO xx-8 UPMK xx- UPMK xx- UPMK xx-6 UPMK xx-7. Secial housings UPM -xx GGMBP UPM -xx ES UPM -xx AOS Alications UPM This circulator um is designed to be integrated in boilers and other heating aliances with remote control of the seed, corresonding to low-voltage PWM signal inut. UPM GEO This circulator um is articularly suitable for cold-water alications. The um is designed to be integrated in geothermal heat ums as well as in heating and air-conditioning systems with remote control of the seed, corresonding to low-voltage PWM signal inut. UPMK This circulator um is articularly suitable for cold-water alications with lower erformance requirements than for the UPM GEO. The um is designed to be integrated in geothermal heat ums as well as in heating and air-conditioning systems with remote control of the seed, corresonding to low-voltage PWM signal inut. Seed control can reduce the ower consumtion considerably. In addition, seed control is required to control the erformance of a system. Features and benefits Grundfos UPM, UPM GEO and UPMK ums offer a number of features and benefits of imortance to the customer. Features UPM Remotely seed-controlled, high-efficiency um fitted with electronically commutated motor (ECM) with ermanent-magnet rotor and frequency converter to be controlled via digital ulse-width modulation (PWM) low-voltage signal validated comonents, second generation of the first boiler-integrated variable-seed ECM circulator ums highly reliable, more than, units installed with success since 6 fits into existing boiler ranges, no exanded sace requirements, ossible use of existing um housings, electrical comatibility with existing PWM controllers and no ambient-temerature constraints (EN 6) cost-otimised and highly available thanks to the use of existing mass roduction facilities energy-otimised due to imroved hydraulic efficiency. 4 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK General data ErP, Ecodesign regulation in brief The EU has addressed the climate challenge: In August, the new Energy-using Products (ErP) regulation on glandless circulator ums integrated in roducts will take effect. The regulation will set radically new standards for energy efficiency in ums integrated in boiler, solar and heat um systems. The essentials Glandless circulator ums integrated in roducts shall have an energy efficiency index (EEI) of not more than., the benchmark level being.. Integrated ums will be measured differently from stand-alone ums due to the various integrated functions in the many customised hydraulic solutions on the market. All circulator ums integrated in roducts which generate and/or transfer heat, and all tyes of media, are included. This means that not only heating systems, but also solar thermal and heat um systems, will be affected by the ErP regulation. Sare ums for systems sold before August are allowed until. Conformity with EU regulations will be governed through mandatory CE marking. Examle If the water/roylene-glycol mixture is %, and the liquid temerature is + C, the viscosity will be cst. Pumed liquids Thin, clean, non-aggressive and non-exlosive liquids, not containing solid articles, fibres or mineral oil. In heating systems, the water should meet the requirements of acceted standards on water quality in heating systems, for examle the German standard VDI. In domestic hot-water systems, the um should be used only for water with a degree of hardness lower than arox. d. UPM GEO and UPMK: Mixtures of water with antifreeze media such as glycol or ethanol down to - C. Note: The um must not be used for the transfer of flammable liquids such as diesel oil and etrol. Glycol or other antifreeze media UPM GEO and UPMK ums can be used in circuits filled with antifreeze media containing for examle glycol. Deending on the tye of glycol, mixture and liquid temerature, the viscosity will increase, comared to water as medium. The viscosity increase will affect the ressure loss in the system as well as the efficiency, erformance and load of the um. Control mode and signals Control rinciles The UPM, UPM GEO and UPMK ums are controlled via a digital low-voltage ulse-width modulation (PWM) signal which means that the seed of rotation deends on the inut signal. The seed changes as a function of the inut rofile. Control signals Digital low-voltage PWM signal The square-wave PWM signal is designed for a to z frequency range. The PWM signal is used to select the seed (seed command) and as feedback signal. The PWM frequency on the feedback signal is fixed at 7 z in the um. The interface translates the external signal into a signal tye that the microrocessor can understand. In addition, the interface ensures that the user cannot get into contact with dangerous voltage if touching the signal wires when V is connected to the um. Note: "Signal ref." is a signal reference with no connection to rotective earth. PWM outut Signal ref. 8 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK Control mode and signals PWM inut signal EATING At high PWM signal ercentages (duty cycles), a hysteresis revents the um from starting and stoing if the inut signal fluctuates around the shifting oint. At low PWM signal ercentages, the um seed is high for safety reasons. In case of a cable breakage in a gas boiler system, the ums will continue to run at maximum seed to transfer heat from the rimary heat exchanger. This is also suitable for heat ums to ensure that the ums transfer heat in case of a cable breakage. Max. Seed Min. The PWM inut signal values are selected to give the best overview of the um erformance range. 9 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK PWM feedback signal STANDARD A PWM feedback signal rovides information about the current erformance of the um, such as current ower consumtion or various alarm or warning modes. See fig. 7 or 8. Alarms Alarm outut signals are available. Some PWM outut signals are dedicated to alarm information. If the suly voltage is measured to a value below 9 V, the outut signal is set to 7 %. If, at the same time, the rotor is locked due to deosits in the hydraulics, the outut signal is set to 9 %, as this alarm is given a higher riority. The bearings are lubricated by the umed liquid. The focus has been on using eco-friendly materials as well as on limiting the number of materials. Motor The efficiency of the -ole, synchronous, electronically commutated ermanent-magnet (ECM/PM) motor tye is considerably higher comared to a conventional asynchronous squirrel-cage motor. The PM motor is designed according to the canned-rotor rincile. The design of the mechanical motor comonents has mainly focused on these features: robustness achieved through efficient rotection of loaded comonents simle design meaning as few comonents as ossible, each with several functions high efficiency due to ermanent magnets and low-friction bearings. The motor is cooled by the umed liquid which reduces the sound ressure level to a minimum. Being software-rotected, the um requires no further motor rotection. The motor/um and control box have been tested according to VDE 7 and meet the requirements of EN 68- concerning electromagnetic comatibility. Construction * For UPM GEO -8 8

14 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK Construction Stator housing The die-cast stator housing with four fixing holes enables easy change of control box and namelate ositions by removing the four screws holding the stator housing and turning the housing to the desired osition. See fig.. Stator and windings The UPM, UPM GEO and UPMK have a two-hase inserted stator similar to the UP Series circulator ums. The UPM GEO and UPMK is designed for uming very cold liquids (down to - C). In such alications, condensation may occur in the stator housing. To rotect the stator, the coer wires have been rovided with reinforced insulation. Fig. Stator housing The three drain holes located in the UPM GEO and UPMK stator housing, close to the um housing, enable condensed water to escae from the um. Consequently, one of the drain holes must always oint downwards. See fig.. The UPM GEO and UMPK stator housings are electrocoated. TM 7 Fig. Stator Shaft with rotor The shaft is made of ceramics. The rotor core is made of iron lamination and fitted with ermanent magnets. The UPM and UPMK rotor and shaft are moulded together. The UPM GEO rotor is fitted to the shaft with a ie and an elastic sleeve. The rotor is encasulated in a thin stainless-steel cladding welded to the end covers and shaft ie. To avoid reciitation of calcium in the radial bearings, the shaft has been lunge-ground at the journals. It has a through-going hole to ensure good lubrication and cooling of the uer bearing. Air in the rotor chamber escaes into the system through the through-going holes of the shaft. 15 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK Rotor can The drawn stainless-steel rotor holds the ground and honed uer radial bearing at the to. The rotor can has an air-venting/de-blocking screw. Imeller The comosite imeller is of the radial tye with curved blades. See fig.. The imeller is secured to the shaft with a slit cone. See fig., os.. The imeller, shaft with rotor and bearing late are assembled in one unit to eliminate ossible misalignment in the bearings. Construction Fig. 7 Rotor can Bearing late The bearing late is made of stainless steel. The ground and honed inner radial bearing is ressed into the bearing late. Thanks to the relatively large bearing late surface, the motor heat is effectively carried away by the umed liquid. The four tiny laser holes of the bearing late ensure otimum venting and minimise the gradual relacement of rotor liquid with the umed liquid. In combination with the bearing late, the thrust bearing revents forces from being transmitted axially to rotor and rotor can. Fig. 9 Thrust bearing TM 6 TM 79 TM 79 Fig. Imeller Pum housing As standard, the um housing is available in electrocoated cast iron with threaded suction and discharge orts. The um housing is of the in-line tye. The stainless-steel neck ring is ressed into the um housing to minimise the amount of liquid running from the discharge side of the imeller to the suction side. Fig. Pum housing Control box The UPM, UPM GEO and UPMK control box is made of black comosite material with an aluminium heat sink. It contains the PCBs for internal ower suly and communication. Arrows on the um housing indicate the liquid flow direction through the um. The um is designed to be installed uming uwards, downwards or horizontally. Note: The um must always be installed with horizontal motor shaft within ±. The um should be installed in the system in such a way that no major amount of air flowing through the um or gathering in the um housing will affect the um when it is out of oeration. If, in addition, a non-return valve is installed in the flow ie, there is a high risk of dry running as the air cannot ass the valve. Control box ositions The ermissible control box ositions are indicated in the secific um data sheets. See ages 9 to. Changing the control box osition To change the control box osition, remove the screws holding the um head, and turn the control box to the desired osition. Relace the screws and tighten securely. Note: Before any dismantling of the um, the system must be drained, or the isolating valves on either side of the um must be closed. Insulation When the um is to be insulated, the control box (esecially the cooling cover) must not be covered in order to allow cooling by the surrounding air. If the um is installed in a cabinet or fitted with insulation shells, the inside air temerature has to be evaluated. If constant ambient air temeratures higher than C are to be exected, lease contact our Grundfos VAC OEM Division. Diffusion-tight, cold-water insulation must not cover the um head. The drain holes located in the stator housing must always be free. Ambient temerature Maximum C. Note: The ambient temerature for the UPM with a ermissible liquid temerature from + C to +9 C should always be lower than the liquid temerature, as otherwise condensation may form in the stator housing. Relative air humidity Maximum 9 %, non-condensing environment. Note: The UPM GEO and UPMK can handle a condensing environment. Storage temerature Maximum 7 C. Electrical installation The electrical connection and rotection must be carried out in accordance with local regulations. The um requires no external motor rotection. Check that the suly voltage and frequency corresond to the values stated on the namelate. Suly voltage x V + %/- %, /6 z. Reduced suly voltage The um will run with reduced erformance at voltages down to 6 VAC. Inrush current The inrush current is the charge current to the electrolytic caacitor in the ower suly to the electronics. The maximum current amlitude deends on the ower suly and the comlete wiring from the distributor transformer to the um. The um is internally controlled by a small frequency converter running on a DC voltage. Therefore, the VAC suly voltage is rectified to a DC voltage before it reaches the frequency converter. This is done by a rectifier and a caacitor. See fig.. NTC thermistor EMC filter Rectifier DC voltage to the frequency converter Caacitor Fig. Rectification of VAC voltage to DC voltage The load of electronically commutated motors (ECM) behaves as a caacitive load and not as a motor load like in a standard um. When the ower suly is switched on, the caacitor will behave as a short-circuit (as it is "emty", i.e. it has not been charged). Therefore, the current is only limited by the sum of the resistance in the NTC thermistor and the resistance in the coil of the EMC filter. If the ower suly is switched on when the suly voltage is at its highest level, the inrush current can become u to 7.9 A (see below) for a very short eriod of time. After this eriod of time, the current will dro to the rated current. Note: The inrush current of 7.9 A is measured on a flicker network according to IEC 6--:99 + A, + A, Annex B. When the ower suly to the um is switched on and off via an external relay, it must be ensured that the contact material of the relay is able to handle higher inrush currents. We recommend to use secial inrush relays with silver tin oxide (AgSnO) contacts. TM 7 6

17 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK Leakage current The um mains filter will cause a discharge current to earth during oeration. Leakage current: <. ma. igh-voltage test The um incororates filter comonents that are connected to rotective earth. Therefore, a standard high-voltage test cannot be made without damaging the filters. Earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) If the um is connected to an electric installation where an earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) is used as additional rotection, this circuit breaker must tri when earth fault currents with DC content (ulsating DC) occur (tye A). The earth leakage circuit breaker must be marked with the symbol shown in fig.. Signal cable The UPM, UPM GEO and UPMK are seed-controlled ums. To enable um control, a signal cable is required, otherwise the um will always run at maximum seed. The signal cable has three leads, i.e. signal inut, signal outut and signal ref. The cable must be connected to the control box by a dubox housing with a FCI terminal block and terminals. The otional signal cable can be sulied with the um as an accessory. See section 8. The um must not be used with an external seed control which varies the suly voltage, for examle hase-cut or ulse-cascade control. 18 UPM, UPM GEO, UPMK Start-u. Start-u Do not start the um until the system has been filled with liquid and vented. Being self-venting, the rotor can does not require venting before start-u. Air inside the um will be transorted by the medium into the system during the first minutes after um start-u. Furthermore, the required minimum inlet ressure must be available at the um inlet. Note: The system must not be vented through the air-venting/de-blocking screw in the front of the um. owever, the screw may be loosened to check if the system has been vented comletely. Attention: When loosening the air-venting/de-blocking screw, be aware of hot, sraying water. It might haen that the um stos when the air-venting/de-blocking screw is loosened. When connected to an external PWM signal, the um seed is controlled by an external controller which might even sto the um. Without signal, the um will run at maximum erformance. 8

This annex mentions all the grous of roducts covered by the directives.
