A technological advantage therefore becomes a successful artnershi Examle: Micro - Axial Piston Pum AKP Alication: Downhole directional drilling in the oil and gas industry Down hole directional drilling tools are used in oil & gas industry to drill for oil. They are used to control the direction of the drilling head in order to change direction from vertical to horizontal and to byass obstacles in the ground. These drilling tools as well as the secial tools LWD - Logging While Drilling, MWD - Measurement While Drilling, Wireline Tools, Comletion Tools and Well Tractors are used in the underground. Challenge: The osition and direction of the drilling tools are directed and controlled from the drilling latform. The drilling tools are driven u to 3 km deth and additionally, u to 9 km horizontally. They must be very small and are exosed to extreme oerating conditions. The ambient temerature can reach u to 175 C, the ambient ressure u to 2000 bar and all the while being subjected to extreme vibrations and shock stress. Solution: AKP Micro-Pums from BIERI, which are comonents of the directional control unit, ensure that the drilling tool reaches the target destination exactly and reliably. The drilling direction is defi ned by three fl as in the tool, which are actuated by a lunger cylinder. Driven by a DC servo motor, our ums ensure that reliable and accurate ressure is alied to the lunger cylinders.
