3 Installatin: Fluid Requirements Ultrasnic Flw Meters The Snic-Pr series Hybrid Ultrasnic Flw Meters can measure fluid flw in virtually any fluid in which sund waves can travel. The Snic-Pr meters are cnsidered hybrid because they can measure fluid flw using either the Dppler r Transit Time methds. The Snic-Pr ultrasnic sund transducers are clamped t the utside f the pipe wall and include n mving parts. This methd f flw measurement is safe, nn-intrusive and very easy t service. The Dppler measurement methd requires particles be present in the flw stream t reflect the sund waves. The meter may be perated in the Dppler mde when the fluid cntains 0.02% t 15% (200 t 150,000 ppm) f particles. The Transit Time measuring methd requires relatively clean fluid t enable the sund waves t cmplete their circuit. The meter may be perated in the Transit-Time mde when the fluid cntains 0% t 10% (0 t 100,000 ppm) f particles. T allw fr changes in the fluid s particle cunt, the Snic-Pr mnitrs the signal gain and emplys an Autmatic Gain Cntrl (AGC) algrithm that peridically adjusts the gain maintain the ptimum pwer level. The speed at which sund travels in the fluid must be knwn. The factry will cnfigure the meter fr a knwn fluid during the initial cnfiguratin. The Snic-Pr mdel S3c includes a 5-buttn user interface and remte PC sftware that can be used t cnfigure the meter. Many cmmn fluids are listed in the sftware and can be selected directly frm the menu. Prvided the speed f sund in the fluid is knwn, custm unknwn fluids can be input manually by the user. A list f varius fluids and their sund speeds are prvided in the user manual. Flw Stream Requirements The Snic-Pr s sund wave beam is nly affected by fluid that actually passes thrugh the beam and therefre, the meter will nt measure accurately if the fluid velcity is nt cnsistent acrss the entire pipe diameter. Flw disturbances such as pumps, elbws, tees, and valves in the flw stream can cause swirl patterns and vrtices that will affect the measurement. Install the transducers n a straight run f pipe as far as pssible frm any disturbances. The distance required fr accuracy will depend n the type f disturbance. Cmmunicatins Optins: Any Snic-Pr mdel can be equipped with a Cmmunicatins Package that includes Ethernet, USB, RS-232, and RS-485 cnnectins, and prprietary Snic-Pr User PC Sftware. When cnnected t a PC cmputer running the Snic-Pr sftware, the user can access the cnfiguratin menu fr prgram editing and data lgging dwnlads directly int a PC. The Snic-Pr Sftware user interface mimics the S3 mdel 5- buttn tuch pad s learning t use the sftware applicatin is simple. Simply clicking n the buttns is the same as pressing the buttns n the Snic-Pr SPU tuch pad. Pressing and hlding shift while clicking n a buttn simulates pressing and hlding a buttn n the tuch pad. Prcess Cntrl Optins: Any Snic-Pr mdel can be equipped with a Prcess Cntrl Relay Package that includes three independently prgrammable 10 amp relays. Hwever, relay prgramming requires the Mdel S3 prgramming features r the Cmmunicatins package t functin. Mdels S1 and S2 cannt access the relay functins unless cnnected t the cmmunicatins Sftware. Each relay can be cnfigured t respnd t changes in either the measured rate f flw r the accumulated ttal flw value. When assigned t mnitr flw rate, high/lw/range rate alarms are pssible.
