Trnsduer instlltion should be instlled ording to the mnufturer s speifitions. To void interferene, bles should be routed seprtely from the trolling motor power bles. IMPORTANT: Do not route the trnsduer ble down the trolling motor power ord or foot pedl ssembly ble. Route the trnsduer ble down the rm of the mount, then into the bow onsole. Sensitive eletronis, depth finders in prtiulr, should be onneted diretly to the min engine bttery. If only one bttery system is used, then onnet with seprte bles. 13

18 WIRING AND BATTERY ESTABLISHING A COMMON GROUND MotorGuide reommends isolting the trolling motor bttery/btteries from the min engine bttery. Eletrolysis issues: Using the engine strting bttery s soure of power for ny trolling motor my use eletrolysis on metlli prts. If you hve followed the bttery wiring nd instlltion instrutions in this mnul nd your bot ontinues to hve eletrolysis issues, you will need to seprte the trolling motor from ny other bot eletronis. Remove the engine strting bttery from the wiring onfigurtion of the bot nd isolte the power iruit for your trolling motor. Estblish ommon ground: Common ground mens the ground for the min engine essories nd your trolling motor re onneted to the sme negtive ground terminl. Not hving ommon ground n use severe orrosion or eletrolysis. If left unheked, dmge my be used to your trolling motor nd bot. Estblishing ommon ground onnetion will llow inresed sensitivity nd improve detil on sonr disply. RECOMMENDATIONS Bttery type: The reommended bttery is 12 volt deep yle bttery. Ciruit protetion: MotorGuide reommends instlling 50 mp mnul reset iruit breker in line with the trolling motor positive leds within 180 m (72 in.) of the btteries. To order iruit breker kit, ontt your lol servie deler, request kit number MM5870. Wire size: For optimum performne, MotorGuide reommends the use of 13 mm (6 guge) wire if extending the existing wire beyond the stndrd bttery ble supplied with the produt. Bow plugs: For temporry trolling motor instlltions, MotorGuide reommends the use of qulity plug designed for mrine pplitions. 14

22 Trnsom Mount Instlltion TWIST TILLER MODELS MOUNT INSTALLATION 1. Clmp srews: The lmp srews llow for esy motor instlltion nd removl. Mount your motor on the trnsom nd then tighten the lmp srews seurely. 2. Tilt position pin: This pin llows you to djust the tilt of the motor. 3. Depth ollr djustment: The depth of the motor n be djusted up nd down by loosening the depth ollr knob. The depth ollr is loted on the olumn diretly bove the mount. After djusting to the position nd depth desired, tighten the knob. 4. Steering tension djustment: To djust the steering resistne, simply tighten or loosen the steering frition knob. Pontoon Mount Instlltion 1. Crefully selet the re on the dek to instll the mount. Choose n re where the mount will provide mple lerne for ll of the motor positions, inluding the running nd stowing positions. 2. Ple the mount bse on the surfe of the bot dek where it is to be mounted; use the mount bse s templte to mrk the lotion of the holes. 3. Drill mounting holes with 6.5 mm (0.25 in.) drill bit nd ler the holes of ny debris. Countersink the holes (only on fiberglss bots) nd gin ler ny remining debris from the holes. 4. Instll the four stinless steel mounting bolts through eh of the brket mounting holes. 5. Instll the four stinless steel wshers nd nuts on the bottom side of the dek nd tighten seurely. 6. The trolling motor n now be pled in the mount. Bow Mount Instlltion IMPORTANT: Choose n re on the dek tht provides 7.6 m (3 in.) lerne from the bow of the bot for ll motor positions, inluding deployed nd stowed positions. 18

23 MOUNT INSTALLATION 1. Selet n pproprite re on the dek of the bot to instll the mount. Ensure the forwrd mounting srews will not penetrte the hull Mount on dek with 7.6 m (3 in.) lerne 2. Using Phillips hed srewdriver nd the deket srews provided in the hrdwre bg, seure the deket to the mount bse. (The deket for hevy duty spring mounts n be instlled lst.) 3. Use the bow mount bse s templte to mrk the lotion of the front mounting holes in the plsti deket nd the rer mounting holes on the mount bse Drill the mounting holes with 6.5 mm (0.25 in.) dimeter drill bit. Remove ny debris. 19

24 MOUNT INSTALLATION 5. If using rubber mounting isoltors, drill eh mounting hole with 13 mm (0.5 in.) dimeter drill bit NOTE: A rubber sper or wsher should be used between the bse of the mount nd the bot mounting surfe when the rubber isoltors re not used. 6. Insert the rubber mounting isoltors into the drilled holes. Position the wider side of the isoltor towrd the outside of the mount brket. 7. Ple the mount brket on the isoltors nd lign the holes. Instll the two longer srews into the front holes nd the two shorter srews into the rer holes. Tighten ll of the mounting srews with Phillips srewdriver. Do not tighten the mounting srews with n eletri srewdriver. NOTE: It is importnt tht the brket lies even ginst the isoltors before bolting it to the dek. If the mount is not even, it will bind s it is bolted down mking it diffiult or impossible to unlth. One instlled, the lth pins should snp firmly into ple nd relese esily with quik snp of the wrist nd light pull of the rope hndle. 8. When the brket is instlled, it should fsten seurely nd evenly with the lth pins nd relese with light, quik, pull of the rope hndle. 20

25 BOW MOUNT OPERATION Instlling the Motor into the Mount 1. Turn the brket door knob ounterlokwise nd open the brket door. 2. Ple the motor olumn into the brket nd lose the door. 3. 31 TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION Speed Control FIVE-SPEED AND VARIABLE SPEED MOTORS Foot operted motors re either five speed or vrible speed models. Control the speed of your motor by rolling the speed ontrol knob with your hnd or foot until you reh the desired speed. Five-speed motor: The speed ontrol knob on five speed motor is numbered 1 5 nd llows you to selet one of five preset speeds. Vrible speed motor: The speed ontrol knob on vrible speed motor llows you the pbility of vrible speed seletions from off to high. b - Foot pedl b - Speed selet window (1 5) - Speed ontrol knob Constnt/Momentry/High Bypss Momentry swith: The momentry swith is loted on the top right side of the foot pedl. The momentry swith works in onjuntion with the three position swith when it is in momentry or high bypss position. Three-position swith: This three position swith provides three options for operting the motor: onstnt on, momentry, nd high bypss. Constnt on: This llows the motor to run ontinuously t the speed seleted by the speed ontrol knob without the use of the momentry swith. Momentry: This llows the motor to tivte with the momentry swith t the speed seleted by the speed ontrol knob. 27

Store the trolling motor in dry lotion where it will not be ffeted by tempertures below 29 C ( 20 F). IMPORTANT: Trolling motors stored in tempertures below 0 C (32 F) should be operted slowly for minimum of 15 minutes before going bove 30% opertion. Bttery Inspetion The bttery should be inspeted t periodi intervls to ensure proper trolling motor opertion. IMPORTANT: Red the sfety nd mintenne instrutions whih ompny your bttery. 1. Ensure tht the bttery is seured to the vessel. 2. Ensure tht the bttery ble terminls re len, tight, nd orretly instlled. For instlltion instrutions, refer to Wiring nd Bttery. 3. Ensure tht the bttery is equipped with bttery box to prevent identl shorting of the bttery terminls. Propeller Replement! Alwys disonnet the bttery bles from the bttery before mintining, serviing, instlling, or removing motor omponents. REMOVING THE PROPELLER 1. Disonnet the bttery bles from the power soure. 2. While holding the propeller blde with one hnd, use propeller wrenh or pliers to remove the propeller nut. IMPORTANT: If the propeller nnot be removed esily, hold one blde nd use rubber mllet to lightly tp the bkside of the opposite blde. If the propeller nnot be removed, refer to Troubleshooting. 32
