STRT The design & developent of fuy logi ontroller using UPFs to dp out the osilltions in FTS sed integrted ulti-hine power syste when fults tkes ple t different uses (one fult t tie) is presented in this pper. The ulti-hine syste onsists of 3 genertors, 3 trnsforers, 9 uses, 4 lods & UPFs. 3 Siulink odels re developed with & without the hyrid ontroller y onsidering the ourrene of one fult t tie ner eh genertor. The 3 phse to ground syetril fult is de to our ner the first genertor for 00 s in the odel, next t the seond genertor in odel & finlly t the third genertor in odel 3. Siultions re perfored with & without the ontroller. The 3 odels re opred for the effetiveness of the fult ourrene ner eh of the genertors. INTRODUTION ording to IEEE, FTS - whih is the revition of Flexile Trnsission Systes, is defined s lternting urrent trnsission systes inorporting power eletronis sed nd other stti ontrollers to enhne ontrollility nd power trnsfer pility. Dyni retive power openstion nd dping power syste osilltions n lso e hieved using FTS ontrollers. Injeting the series voltge phsor, with desirle voltge gnitude nd phse ngle in line n provide powerful ens of preisely ontrolling the tive nd retive power flows, y whih syste stility n e iproved, syste reliility n e enhned while operting nd trnsission investent ost n e redued. It is possile to vry the ipedne of speifi trnsission line to fore power flow long desired ontrt pth in the eerging power systes, nd to regulte the unwnted loop power flows nd prllel power flows in the interonneted syste. The FTS ontrollers hve een rodly developed on two different priniples, one tht lters the line series retne or us shunt retne or voltge phse differene ross line nd utilies onventionl thyristor swithes for ontrol. In generl, FTS ontrollers n e divided into four tegories sed on their onnetion in the network, vi., series, shunt, oined series-series, nd oined series-shunt. In our work, we hve used the series-shunt ointion []. The orgnition of the pper is s follows. Firstly, rief introdution to the FTS, its evolutions, pplitions, the UPF ontroller & the fuy logi ontroller ws presented in the previous prgrphs. Setion presents the thetil odeling of the ulti-hine syste long with the preters. In setion 3, the ontrol strtegy, the design of the ontroller for ll the 3 odels is presented. Setion 4 presents the developent of the 3 Siulink odels for the dping of the power syste osilltions when fult tkes ple ner eh genertor, individully t tie. Siultion results re presented in setion 5. 96

MODELING OF THE 3-MHINE, 9-US INTEGRTED POWER SYSTEM The integrted ulti-hine power syste odel onsisting of 3 genertors used for the siultion purposes is shown in the for of one-line digr (single line digr) with & without the ontrollers in the Fig. respetively. The genertors, nd 3 re onneted to uses, 5 nd 8. Two UPF s re used for ontrolling & dping the power syste osilltions in the integrted plnt []. One is onneted etween us & 3 nd the other is onneted etween uses 6 nd 7. Three trnsforers T to T3 re lso used in the integrted power syste ner the genertor uses for the power trnsission purposes, i.e., for stepping up & stepping down purposes. Trnsission lines re onneted etween the uses Sine, we know tht the power syste is dyni one, definitely, it is non-liner syste [0]. DEVELOPMENT OF THE ONTROL STRTEGY ontroller is devie whih ontrols eh & every opertion in the syste king deisions. Fro the ontrol syste point of view, it is ringing stility to the syste when there is disturne or noise or fult, thus sfegurding the equipent fro further dges. It y e hrdwre sed ontroller or softwre sed ontroller or ointion of oth. In this setion, the developent of the ontrol strtegy for dping the osilltions in FTS sed power systes is presented. The unified power flow ontroller (UPF) is one of the ost proising devie & ost verstile ontroller devie used in the FTS fily [] - [4]. It is n eletril devie for providing fst-ting retive power openstion on high-voltge trnsission networks & is generlly used s ontroller in loop with the plnt. It hs the pility to ontrol voltge gnitude, line ipedne nd phse ngle, nd n lso independently provide (positive or negtive) retive power injetions, thus providing the voltge support, ontrol of power flow, & n e used to ontrol tive nd retive power flows in trnsission line. Moreover, UPF further iproves the dyni perforne of the power syste in oordintion with dping ontrollers [8]. s result, one of their pplitions is the dping of power syste osilltions using Power Osilltion Dping (POD), whih reently hs een ttrting the interest of ny reserhers, inluding ours. The hert of the UPF is the power eletroni devies, i.e., the silion ontrolled retifiers. It onsists of two solid-stte synhronous voltge soure onverters oupled through oon D link pitor s shown in Fig. 3, i.e., voltge soure inverters shring oon D storge pitor. Two oupling trnsforers re used. s shown in Fig. 3, the UPF onsists of oosting trnsforer nd n exittion trnsforer linked y k-to-k onverters nd. The first onverter is onneted in shunt nd the seond one in series with the line. The shunt onverter is pririly used to provide tive power dend of the series onverter through oon D link [4]. onverter n lso generte or sor retive power nd therey provide independent shunt retive openstion for the line. onverter provides the in funtion of the UPF y injeting dditionl voltge with ontrollle gnitude nd phse ngle in series with the trnsission line through series trnsforer [5]. The in tsk of the UPF is to ontrol the flow of power in stedy-stte onditions. In ddition, high speed of opertion of thyristor devies kes it possile to ontrol rel nd retive power flow. The UPF n e eployed to enhne power syste dping y odulting the onverter voltges. The UPFs re used t ertin lotions in integrted power syste in etween soe uses [6]. In the Fig. 3 shown, the i nd j represents the uses in the integrted power syste odel. These fuy ontrollers hve got lot of dvntges opred to the lssil (P, PI, PID) & the onventionl ontrollers (POD-UPF), suh s the sipliity of ontrol, low ost, high reliility, optness of the hrdwre (sine fuy logi ontroller just kes use of fuy rules) nd the possiility to design without knowing the ext thetil odel of the proess []. Fuy logi is one of the suessful pplitions of fuy set in whih the vriles re linguisti rther thn the nueri vriles & eerged s onsequene of the 965 proposl of fuy set theory y Lotfi Zdeh. Linguisti vriles, defined s vriles whose vlues re sentenes in nturl lnguge (suh s lrge or sll), y e represented y the fuy sets. Fuy set is n extension of risp set where n eleent n only elong to set (full eership) or not elong t ll (no eership). Fuy sets llow prtil eership, whih ens tht n eleent y prtilly elong to ore thn one set. fuy set of universe of disourse X is represented y olletion of ordered pirs of generi eleent x X nd its eership funtion µ : X [ 0 ], whih ssoites nuer µ (x) : X [ 0 ], to eh eleent x of X. fuy logi ontroller is sed on set of ontrol rules lled s the fuy rules ong the linguisti vriles [7]. These rules re expressed in the for of onditionl stteents. Our si struture of the fuy logi oordintion ontroller to dp out the osilltions in the power syste onsists of 3 iportnt prts, vi., fuifition, knowledge se - deision king logi (inferene syste) nd the defuifition, whih re explined in rief s follows [3]. The internl struture of the fuy oordintion unit is shown in the Fig. 5. The neessry inputs to the deision-king unit loks re the rule-sed units nd the dt sed lok units. The fuifition unit onverts the risp dt into linguisti vriles. The deision king unit deides in the linguisti vriles with the help of logil linguisti rules supplied y the rule se unit nd the relevnt dt supplied y the dt se [8, 5]. The output of the deision-king unit is given s input to the de-fuifition unit nd the linguisti vriles of the signl re onverted k into the nueri for of dt in the risp for [5]. The deision-king unit uses the onditionl rules of IF-THEN-ELSE, whih n e oserved fro the lgorith entioned elow [4]. To deterine the degree of eerships for the output vriles, the onept of in-x inferene is used. Note tht oth the ontrollers use the se rule se syste [9]. This proess is wht is lled s defuifition. Defuifition is the proess of produing quntifile result in fuy logi. The defuiftion trnsfors fuy set infortion into nueri dt infortion. This opertion long with the opertion of fuifition is ritil to the design of fuy systes s oth of these opertions provide nexus etween the fuy set doin nd the rel vlued slr doin [3]. There re so ny ethods to perfor the deffuifition, vi., entre of grvity ethod, entre of singleton ethod, xiu ethods, the rginl properties of the entroid ethods & so on. In our work, we use the entre of grvity ethod [3]. The output of the fuy-oordintion unit is further given s the input to the POD, whih in turn is given s input to the UPF ontroller. The POD (Power Osilltion Dping) uses 5 individul loks, vi., the plifition lok, the wsh out link, stge of lg-led loks nd liiter. The odeling of this is done in Siulink nd is shown in the Fig. 9. Note tht the inputs to ontroller (P UPF- nd P UPF- ) re the tive power flow through the UPFs. The output signl of the fuy-pod ointion is the ond signls to the UPFs [33]. Thus, in this wy, the onventionl POD ontrollers re tuned y king use of the fuy-oordintion ontrollers. The ontrol signl generted fro this oined fuy-pod-upf is given to the ulti-hine odel whih is further used to dpen the osilltions [34]. The in dvntge of putting the fuy oordintion ontroller efore the UPF-POD in odeling is the plifition prt of the onventionl ontroller eing odified y the fuy oordintion unit, thus inresing the power syste stility. DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIMULINK MODEL In this setion, we present the developent of the Siulink odel for the ulti-hine FTS sed power syste with nd without the ontroller. The Figs. 0 - show the 3 siultion odels of the 3- genertor, 9-us syste instlled with two Fuy-POD-UPF ontrollers, i.e., first one etween nd nd the 3 rd us nd seond one is t 6 th nd 7 th us when the fult tkes ple ner genertors, & 3. The entire syste odeled in Siulink is losed loop feedk ontrol syste onsisting of the plnts, ontrollers, oprtors, feedk systes, the ux, de-ux, integrtors, stte-spe odels, su-systes, trnsforers, the output sinks (sopes) & the input soures [39]. The Siulink odel is developed fro the si funtions ville in the Siulink lirry & fro the vrious tool-oxes ville. Trnsforers re used for voltge step up & step down purposes. The output signl of the Fuy oordinted POD is plifition signl djusted to the UPF POD ontroller & given s input to the UPF. In this wy, the onventionl POD ontrollers re oordinted dynilly y ens of fuy-logi & the plifition prt of the onventionl ontroller is odified y the fuy oordintion ontrollers, thus ting s pre-plifier [38]. Fuy oordinted ontroller onsists of 3 si loks vi., fuifition, inferene, nd the de-fuifition loks. set of 9 fuy rules re written nd lled in the for of file in the developed Siulink odel with the ontroller. In the work onsidered shown in the Fig. 0, the oined effet of Fuy-POD-UPF is inly used for power syste osilltion dping [37]. The Figs. 3-5 show the siultion odel of 3-genertor, 9-us syste instlled without the ontrollers for ll the 3 odels. This syste is thus, n open loop ontrol syste euse of the sene of the ontroller [40]. This is done in order to opre the effetiveness of the inorported ontroller in the odel when the fult tkes ple with the odel without the ontroller when the fult tkes ple [36]. SIMULTION RESULTS Digitl Siultions re rried out in Mtl 7 & ws run for s with & without the ontroller for ll the 3 odels, vi., fult t genertor (odel ), fult t genertor (odel ), fult t genertor 3 (odel 3). The step sie for ll the 6 siultions (3 with ontroller & 3 without ontroller) ws tken to e very sll so tht we get very urte results. For the softwre ipleenttion purposes, we hd tken 3-genertor nine us syste with 0 KV line nd 00 MW genertors. It is lerly oserved fro the oprtive siultion results tht with the developed ontroller, the dyni perforne of the power syste is quite iproved with the inorportion of the fuy oordintion shee for ll the 3 individul odels. It is lso oserved tht with the ontroller, the power ngle hrteristis urves exhiit very less overshoots & undershoots. The osilltions re lso dped out in lesser tie. The response hrteristis tke less tie to settle & reh the finl stedy stte vlue in ll the 3 ses. Without the ontroller, the response hrteristis tke lot of tie to settle whih n e oserved fro the siultion results in the Figs. 9 - respetively. ONLUSION FTS sed ulti-hine power syste oprising of 3 genertors, 9 uses, 3 lods with nd without the Fuy-POD-UPF ontrollers ws onsidered in this pper y developing 3 Siulink odels. Siulink odels were developed in Mtl 7 with & without the Fuy-POD-UPF ontrollers for the onsidered ulti-hine odel in order to dp out the osilltions. 3 odels were developed. In the st odel, fult tkes ple ner genertor. In the nd odel, fult tkes ple ner genertor. In the 3 rd odel, the fult tkes ple ner genertor 3. The ontrol strtegy ws lso developed y writing set of fuy rules. The fuy ontrol strtegy ws designed sed on the onventionl POD-UPF ontroller & put efore the POD-UPF in the odeling. The in dvntge of putting the fuy oordintion ontroller efore the POD-UPF in odeling is the plifition prt of the onventionl ontroller eing odified y the fuy oordintion unit, thus inresing the power syste stility. Siultions were run in Mtl 7 & the results were oserved on the sope. Grphs of power ngle vs. tie were oserved with nd without the ontroller for ll the 3 odels. Fro the siultion results, it ws oserved tht without the Fuy-POD-UPF ontroller, the nine us syste will e hving ore disturnes, while we hek the power ngle on the first genertor in odel, seond genertor in odel, third genertor in odel 3. There re lot of ringing osilltions (overshoots & undershoots) & the output tkes lot of tie to stilie, whih n e oserved fro the siultion results. ut, fro the inorportion of the Fuy-POD-UPF oordintion syste in loop with the plnt in ll the 3 odels, gve etter results there y reduing the disturnes in the power ngle nd lso the post fult settling tie lso got redued lot.
