4 Oil, Gas and Dual Fuel Burners Burner series Oiln il, gas, and dual fuel burners are fully autmatic, safe, and reliable. The design and manufacturing f the burners is based n ecnmy, safety, and service as well as envirnmental friendliness. Our gas burners cmply with the EN 676 standard, il burners with the EN 230 and EN 267 standards, and dual fuel burners with all f these standards. All burners are EU type tested. We als supply burners cmplying with varius marine classificatin sciety requirements, such as ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, GL, KR, LR, NKK, RINA, and RS. Cnstructin The steel plate husing incrprates a three-phase mtr that runs the fan lcated in the husing. The il pump has its wn three-phase mtr. The surface f the husing is finished with durable high-glss paint. The husing is equipped with a hinged burner flange with a safety interlck switch, enabling the burner t be swung pen t the left r right. Due t the burner flange, it is pssible t service the cmbustin head, nzzles, and ignitin electrdes withut remving the burner. The stainless steel ally cmbustin head and the diffuser disc can withstand temperatures up t 1,200 C. The cmbustin head is adjustable, t ptimise the mixing f fuel regardless f the firing rate. The burner cntains a sight glass fr flame bservatin. On the suctin side f the fan there is an air damper that, tgether with the servmtr, autmatically cntrls the amunt f fuel and air n the basis f the firing rate required. A remvable upper cver makes electrical installatins and burner servicing easier. Installatin and suitable applicatins The burners are suitable fr warm and ht water bilers, steam bilers, ht air generatrs, and varius types f prcess heating. They are als designed t suit furnaces with high back pressure. The burners can be munted in hrizntal, vertical and upwardfacing, r vertical and dwnward-facing rientatin. Our burners are designed fr peratin in cvered areas, max. +50 C. Nrmal peratin altitude is 500 metres abve sea level (ther altitudes n request). The enclsure class f the burner is IP 20. Fuels Different fuels can be used depending n the burner mdel: KP mdels: - light fuel il, viscsity 4 t 12 mm 2 /s, +20 C RP mdels: - heavy fuel il, viscsity max. 250 mm 2 /s, +50 C - heavy fuel il, viscsity max. 450 mm 2 /s, +50 C heating cartridge fr pump, nzzle and slenid valves - heavy fuel il, viscsity max. 650 mm 2 /s, +50 C heating cartridges as abve + trace heating fr the il piping GP mdels: - natural gas, gases f 2nd family, grups H and E (equipment categry I2R) GKP and GRP dual fuel burners: - fuel prperties as abve, natural gas/light fuel il - fuel prperties as abve, natural gas/heavy fuel il Burners using ther fuels are available n request. Capacity regulatin methds Depending n the mdel, ptins t chse frm are: Three-stage, T Mdulating, M The three-stage burners are equipped with an air damper servmtr, with a run time f 5 secnds between capacity stages. The burners autmatically perate as ne-, tw-, r three-stage accrding t the lad. Mdulating burners are equipped with a servmtr with a run time f 30 sec./90. The servmtr is cnnected t the il regulatr and cmpund regulatr via an axle. A mdulating burner perates regardless f the firing rate, n the basis f the lad. The burners are cntrlled n the basis f cmbustin gas analysis. Oiln preheater guarantees accurate il temperature cntrl RP and GRP mdels are equipped with il shut-ff valves and a filter, and with an electric mass preheater. The preheater is cntrlled via an electrnic regulatr that keeps the il temperature stable. Stable il temperature makes it easier t btain ptimal cmbustin cnditins. In the heavy il burners, the il heated during the prepurge phase flws t the nzzle thrugh the preheater t ensure that the il temperature is high enugh during the ignitin phase. Gas equipment The gas-related cmpnents f the gas and dual fuel burners cmply the standard EN 676: tw shut-ff valves, pressure switches (min./max.), and an autmatic valve leak tester. Other pipingrelated equipment is available n request. Oil piping Munted n the burner, three-stage burners with fur slenid valves (ne main valve and ne valve fr each nzzle). Mdulating burners have three slenid valves. The il regulatr fr the mdulating burner is lcated n the il line returning frm the nzzle. The il filter is lcated n the suctin side f the pump. The tw il hses enable the burner t be hinged. Flame mnitring All mdels are equipped with autmatic flame mnitring. In KP and RP mdels, flame mnitring is taken care f via phtcell; in GP, GKP, and GRP mdels, it is perfrmed via UV cell. Cntrl devices The cntrl autmatics (cntrl unit) are integrated with the burner. The cntrl unit handles all burner peratin phases autmatically. In the event f a burner failure, the autmatics stp the burner autmatically. The mdulating burners als incrprate a pre-munted capacity cntrller. Subject t additinal charge, the burners can be delivered with electrnic rati cntrl. Silencer The sund level f the burners is lw, but, if desired, they can be equipped with a separate silencer t make them even quieter. Optimising cmbustin head pressure lss At an additinal charge, the mdulating burners can be equipped with a system that ptimises the cmbustin head pressure lss. The system reduces the amunt f excess air and als imprves cmbustin figures fr partial burner lads. We reserve the right t make technical alteratins.

5 Hw t chse a burner A. Prcedure 1 Establish relevant biler and applicatin infrmatin biler capacity and efficiency, r required burner capacity back pressure f the furnace fuel/fuels t be used fuel inlet pressure t the burner capacity regulatin methd f the burner 2 Calculate the burner capacity. Burner capacity = biler capacity/ efficiency Example: biler capacity f 6,500 kw, efficiency f 90 % burner capacity = 6,500 kw / 0.9 = 7,220 kw. 3 Gas burners: Required gas flw [m 3 n/h] = (burner capacity [ kw ] x 3.6)/gas s calrific value [MJ/m 3 n]. Example: required burner capacity = 7,220 kw required gas flw = (7,220 kw x 3.6)/35.8 MJ/m 3 n = 726 m 3 n/h, where 35.8 MJ/m 3 n is the calrific value f natural gas. Oil burners: Calculate the required il flw [kg/h]. Required il flw [kg/h] = (burner capacity [kw] x 3.6)/ the il s calrific value [MJ/kg]. Example: required burner capacity = 7,220 kw required il flw = (7,220 kw x 3.6)/42.7 MJ/kg = 609 kg/h, where 42.7 MJ/kg is the calrific value f light il. 4. See the brchure fr burner capacity/back pressure graphs: The graphs indicate the perating range f the burner. Fr example, the back pressure f a biler with a burner capacity f 7,220 kw is 18 mbar. When yu lk at the pint at the crdinates fr 7,720 kw and 18 mbar n the graph at the bttm f the page, yu can see that the pint is lcated within the capacity/back pressure area fr the GP-700 M burner. When the pint representing the required back pressure and capacity is lcated within the indicated area, the burner capacity is adequate. The best size f burner can be selected by chsing a burner fr which the pint is lcated as near the right-hand edge as pssible. Nte that different fuels and capacity regulatin methds have separate graphs. The calrific value f the fuel is indicated in cnjunctin with the graphs. 5. Chsing a valve fr gas and dual fuel burners: Chse a large enugh valve, using the gas valve selectin table. Nte that the values in the selectin table apply when the furnace back pressure is 0 mbar. Therefre, yu must subtract the furnace back pressure frm the actual gas inlet pressure and chse the valve n the basis f the value thus btained. The ratings shwn in the table apply t natural gas. Fr example, when the gas inlet pressure f the burner is 100 mbar, biler back pressure is 18 mbar, and required burner capacity is 7,220 kw, the effective pressure is 100 mbar - 18 mbar = 82 mbar. Fr the GP-700 M burner, fr example, yu shuld chse a valve allwing a minimum burner capacity f 7,220 kw with 82 mbar gas inlet pressure in this case, valve DN Check that the uter dimensins f the burner, especially thse f the cmbustin head, are suitable fr the applicatin; the length f the cmbustin head shuld be such that, when munted, the cmbustin head is even with the furnace wall r abut 10 t 20 mm inside the furnace (see Masnry figure). 7. Check the flame dimensins in the flame dimensin table. Please nte that the flame must nt tuch the walls f the furnace. 8. Remember the accessries: gas pressure regulatr, il pumping unit, biler thermstats/pressstats. B. Equatins and rules f thumb 1. Burner capacity = biler capacity / 0.9 (when biler efficiency is 90 %) 2. Steam bilers: 1 tn/h steam 700 kw biler capacity 3. Light il: 1 kg/h kw burner capacity with calrific value 42.7 MJ/kg 4. Heavy il: 1 kg/h kw burner capacity with calrific value 40.5 MJ/kg 5. Natural gas: 1 m 3 n/h 10 kw burner capacity with calrific value MJ/m 3 n 6. The amunt f cmbustin air: Gas burners: required amunt f cmbustin air fr each 10 kw f burner capacity is 12 t 13 m 3 /h. Oil burners: required amunt f cmbustin air fr each kil f il burned [kg/h] is 13.5 m 3 /h. 7. Oil pumping, filtering, and preheating unit (Oiln HtBx) is required when firing heavy fuel il. When the burner capacity is mre than 2 MW, a transfer pump unit (Oiln SPY) is always needed, including fr use with light fuel il. The required minimum pump utput [kg/h] can be calculated as fllws: Required minimum utput [kg/h] = (il flw t be burned in kg/h t 200 kg/h)* 1.25 t 1.3, where the expressin inside the parentheses indicates the preheated il flw t each burner. An example f burner selectin The max. capacity f a ht water biler is 6,500 kw, efficiency 0.9, and the crrespnding burner capacity 6,500 kw / 0.9 = 7,220 kw. The graph indicates that a suitable gas burner fr this capacity is the GP-700 M, as the pressure lss value fr the biler is lcated inside the area fr the GP-700 M burner n the capacity/back pressure graph. The GP-600 M can als be used fr this applicatin, prvided that the full biler capacity is nt required. Remember t take efficiency int accunt when relating the biler pressure lss infrmatin t the burner capacity/back pressure graph. 2

28 Burner preheater Accurate temperature cntrl guarantees gd cmbustin In burning heavy fuel il, the right atmising viscsity f the il is essential fr gd cmbustin and lw cmbustin gas emissins. A prerequisite fr stable atmising viscsity is that the il temperature stays stable thrughut the firing rate. Oiln ML mass preheater keeps the il temperature stable even if the incming temperature fluctuates. On accunt f the cnstructin and the electrnic regulatr, the temperature f the il flwing t the nzzle remains stable. The burner may, depending n the capacity and mdel, have ne r mre 6-kW heater equipped with a safety device t guard against verheating. The electrnic regulatr has an integrated minimum temperature limiter as well; this prevents the burner frm starting if the il is t cld. 25 Silencer Intake silencer, type MV 1 Cnstructin The MV 1 silencer is made f steel plate lined with fireprf dampening wl. The silencer is cnnected t the burner s suctin side via a screw cnnectin. The silencer reduces the high-pitched sund prduced by the air flw. Silencer, type MV 3 Cnstructin The MV 3 silencer is made f steel plate lined with fireprf dampening wl. This wheel-equipped silencer islates the burner frm fur sides. The MV 3 silencer reduces the sunds prduced when the burner perates.

29 Optimising cmbustin head pressure lss The speed f the cmbustin air at the cmbustin head is cntrlled by mving the adjustment ring in the axial directin. When the adjustment ring is in the frnt psitin, the gap between the ring and the diffuser disc is small and therefre suitable fr the minimum burner capacity. When the adjustment ring is in the rear psitin, the gap between the ring and the diffuser disc is large and therefre suitable fr maximum capacity. Autmatic cmbustin head ptimisatin is available as an ptin fr the mdulating burners. With this, the mvable cmbustin head adjustment ring is cnnected t the servmtr regulating the burner capacity. This way, the adjustment ring is always ptimised fr the required capacity. Furthermre, the adjustment range f the burner increases.
