4 CONTROL SYSTEM MAIN MACHINE CONTROLLER PROGRAMMING HYROSTATIC NEUTRAL POSITION AN EA-BAN The purpose of this adjustment procedure is to synchronize the electrical neutral position with the mechanical neutral position of the hydrostatic drive. The mechanical neutral position needs to be adjusted fi rst, and this is where the self-centering drive cable matches the neutral position of the hydrostatic drive. A rotary sensor (potentiometer) reports the position of the drive pump lever to the main machine controller. This procedure records the voltage value of the potentiometer that signifi es when the drive is in the neutral position. The dead-band adjustment is the sensitivity of the neutral position. If the dead-band is set too narrow (too sensitive), the controller may believe the drive is in motion, when it is still in neutral, which would prevent engine starting. If set too wide, the drive may be engaged when the controller believes it is in neutral, which would prevent the sweeping system to engage. Correctly setting these adjustments is important, because they control when the machine can be started, and also when sweeping functions activate and deactivate. These adjustments should be made anytime the Main Machine controller or potentiometer are replaced, the mechanical adjustment is performed, or any time the machine shows symptoms of misadjustment.. Make sure the keyswitch is in the off position. 2. To ensure the drive is in the mechanical neutral position, press the drive pedal into reverse and slowly release it. Avoid biasing the neutral position, and do not move the pedal for the remainder of the procedure. 3. While holding the Engine Speed switch (I), turn the keyswitch (A) to the on position. Continue to hold the speed switch until all display indicators turn off (approximately 2 seconds). 4. When the Engine Speed switch is released, the controller will record the resistance value from the drive position sensor.. The Fault Code Light (S) will indicate the dead-band setting as described below. To change the dead-band (sensitivity), press the Engine Speed switch (I) to cycle through the 3 options. Narrow = Steady on Medium = Slow fl ash (efault) Wide = Rapid fl ash 6. To save the settings and exit the process, turn off the keyswitch. 204 Nilfi sk-advance, Inc. (page 4 of 7)

7 SC8000 / CONORXL / ER300/ER600 HYROBACK NEUTRAL AJUSTMENT MAINTENANCE AN AJUSTMENTS FOOT PEAL/HYROBACK NEUTRAL AJUSTMENT Note: When servicing the hydrostatic drive system, always check for any machine creeping (movement) when the machine is in neutral with the engine running. The machine must not move either forward or reverse after the foot pedal is released. If machine creeps in neutral, or if you replace the Hydroback Centering Unit, pedal cable or Rotary Sensor, you will need to set the hydrostatic drive neutral position, then recalibrate the neutral deadband setting.. Empty and remove the recovery tank to access the Hydroback Adjuster Plate. 2. Block the rear wheels. 3. Jack up the front of the machine until the front drive wheel is off the fl oor. 4. Place supports at the front corners of the machine.. Start the engine and observe the direction of the drive wheel rotation. 6. Loosen the two /6-8 Hex Head Screws holding the Hydroback Adjuster Plate to the chassis. 7. Loosen the jam nut and turn the Adjustment Screw clockwise or counterclockwise to move the Hydroback Adjuster Plate and Hydroback Centering Unit as required to stop any wheel movement. The Piston Pump Lever Weldment on the Piston Pump is now in the neutral position. 8. Tighten the two /6-8 Hex Head Screws to secure the Hydroback Adjuster Plate to the chassis. 9. Tighten the jam nut on the Adjustment Screw. 0. Test the neutral adjustment by activating the foot pedal in both forward and reverse, then letting the foot pedal return to the neutral position.. Readjust the Hydroback Adjuster Plate neutral position if the neutral setting is not repeatable. If you can t get a repeatable neutral position, replace the Hydroback Centering Unit and/or Push/Pull Control Cable as necessary. Hydroback Centering Unit Push/Pull Control Cable Piston Pump Lever Weldment Piston Pump Rotary Sensor Hydroback Adjuster Plate Adjustment Screw /6-8 Hex Head Screw (2) 2. Check the maximum forward and reverse wheel speeds and adjust the pedal stops as necessary. Refer to the Specifications/Propulsion Pump Circuits table in the Hydraulic System section for nominal wheel speeds. 3. Turn the engine off, then see if it will restart. If engine will not start, the Rotary Sensor is probably out of its neutral (deadband) range and needs to be recalibrated. See the Foot Pedal Neutral/eadband Adjustment section for programming instructions. 4. Lower the machine and reinstall the recovery tank. 8 FOOT PEAL NEUTRAL EABAN AJUSTMENT The resistance through the Rotary Sensor (rotary potentiometer) attached to the hydrostatic Piston Pump linkage will vary with the position of the linkage. The river Box must see the resistance through the Rotary Sensor within a particular range, called the neutral deadband, to confi rm the Piston Pump is in neutral before the river Box will allow the engine to start. Once the engine is started, depressing the foot pedal moves the Rotary Sensor out of the deadband range. When the river Box sees the resistance from the Rotary Sensor out of the deadband range, it activates the various scrub/sweep functions. Whenever you change or repair the foot pedal linkage components or the hydrostatic unit, or if you replace the Rotary Sensor or Control Board (river Box), you will have to recalibrate the neutral deadband position and set the sensitivity as follows:. epress the foot pedal to the full reverse position, then allow the pedal to slowly return to its neutral position. o not move the pedal during the remainder of this procedure. 2. Press and hold the Engine Speed switch, then turn the ignition Key Switch to the run (on) position. Continue to hold the Engine Speed switch until all the display panel lights turn off (approximately three seconds), then release the switch. The fi rst line of the LC will read PEAL CALIBRATION. The second line of the display will read Place Pedal in Neutral with an arrow to the left of the line. The third line of the display will read Neutral eadband. 3. Press the green Scrub On switch. The fi rst line of the LC will read Neutral Set. The second line of the display will show the resistance value, in ohms, that the control board is reading through the rotary sensor. Note that it s normal for this value to drift a little. 4. Press the green Scrub On switch to set the nominal deadband resistance value. The display will return to the previous menu.. Press the Side Broom own (-) switch to move the arrow to the left of the Neutral eadband line. 6. Press the green Scrub On switch to display the Neutral eadband range menu. The percentages shown are the limits the resistance from the rotary sensor can vary from the Neutral Set (nominal) resistance and still be in the deadband range and allow the engine to start. 7. Press the Side Broom Up (+) and own (-) switches to scroll through the available percentages. Note: The ideal neutral deadband percentage range is one that allows reliable starting, yet still actuates the scrub functions with minimal pedal travel. Increasing the percentage range will decrease the pedal neutral position sensitivity, but will increase the pedal travel required to start the scrub functions. ecreasing the percentage range will increase the pedal neutral position sensitivity, but will decrease the pedal travel required to start the scrub functions. The factory default value is 3%. 8. When the arrow is to the left of the desired percentage value: Press the green Scrub On switch to save the new percentage value. The display will return to the previous menu. Press the red Scrub Off switch to return to the previous menu without changing the percentage value. 9. Turn the Key Switch to the off position. The new settings will be saved and remain in effect until they are changed again. 204 Nilfi sk-advance, Inc. (page 8 of 7)

13 CAPTOR HYROBACK RIVE PEAL NEUTRAL AJUSTMENT When servicing the hydrostatic drive system, always check for any machine creeping (movement) in the neutral position. The machine must not move in either Fwd or Rev after the drive pedal is released. If machine creeping is experienced the neutral position of the hydro back must be adjusted. WARNING! Use jack stands to support the machine when setting the neutral drive pedal adjustment. Block the front wheels. Jack up machine until the rear drive wheel is off the fl oor. Place supports at the rear corners of the machine. 2 Remove the right side engine cover to access the hydroback adjustment bracket. 3 Loosen the two Lock Screws (I) that secure the moveable cable mount Bracket (J) to the chassis. 4 Start the engine and observe the direction of the drive wheel rotation. Next turn the adjustment Screw (K) clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW) to move the cable mounting bracket (in or out) enough to stop any wheel movement. The pump arm is now in neutral, tighten the two lock screws to secure the neutral pump arm setting. Test the neutral adjustment by activating the drive pedal in both FW & REV to confi rm proper wheel motor control. Readjust again if neutral setting is not repeatable. Replace the hydroback and or its linkage if a neutral adjustment can not be obtained. 6 Turn the engine off then check to see that it will restart. If engine will not start the pedal sense switch is probably out of its neutral (dead band) setting and needs to be reprogrammed. See the next page for programming instructions. 14 FOOT PEAL NEUTRAL POSITION AN EA-BAN AJUSTMENT FACTORY EFAULT: 2 RANGE: - 9 The various scrub and sweep functions on the Captor are activated when the foot pedal is moved from the neutral position. The engine neutralstart relay is also activated when the foot pedal is moved from the neutral position. These functions are triggered via a position sensor mounted on the hydrostat. Whenever adjustments are made to the hydrostat unit, the neutral position will need to be programmed. Also, the neutral dead-band (sensitivity) can be adjusted if necessary. To set the neutral position and adjust the neutral dead-band perform the following steps: Turn the main power key switch to the off position. 2 epress the foot pedal to the full reverse position. 3 Allow the foot pedal to slowly return to the neutral position and do not move the pedal during the remainder of this procedure. 4 Press and hold the engine speed switch. While holding the engine speed switch turn the main power key switch to the on position. 6 Continue to hold the engine speed switch until all indicators except the engine speed indicator turn off (approximately two seconds). 7 Release the engine speed switch. 8 The status display will now show a number from to 9. Pressing and releasing the engine speed switch will increase the displayed value until 9 is reached. The next press will return to. This number represents the dead-band value. A value of results in the smallest deadband (most sensitive to pedal movement) and 9 results in the largest dead-band (least sensitive to pedal movement). The neutral position is automatically detected at the beginning of this procedure. A dead-band value of 2 or 3 usually produces the best results. 9 To save the new setting, turn the main power key switch to the off position. 0 The new setting will be saved and will remain in effect until it is changed again. 204 Nilfi sk-advance, Inc.
