Please take special note of the following warnings: 1. There is NO obstacle avoidance system included in the manufacturer s product. Therefore, users must always have an operator on the equipment when the AutoSteer system is in use to look for any obstacles including people, animals, trees, ditches, buildings, etc. 2. During installation of the AutoSteer system and during the Calibration and Tuning processes the vehicle AutoSteer system turns the wheels automatically. Be sure that all people and obstacles are clear of the vehicle before engine startup, calibration, tuning or use of the AutoSteer system. 3. Use of the AutoSteer system is NOT permitted while the vehicle is on public roads or in public areas. Ensure that the system is OFF before driving on roads or in public areas. ii GPS AutoSteer System

3 Special Requirements Tools This list consists of the tools required to complete the installation. 4 Safety Information Warning Alerts The AutoSteer system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following safety requirements: As the operator of the vehicle, you are responsible for its safe operation. The AutoSteer system is not designed to replace the vehicle s operator. Note: Verify all screws, bolts, hose, nuts and cable connections are tight after completing the AutoSteer system installation. WARNING To avoid electrical shock hazards, remove the Roof Module from the vehicle before driving under low structures or low electrical power lines. WARNING To prevent injury from falling, ensure you are in a stable position on the vehicle when installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module. If the vehicle does not provide a safe platform, use a ladder to safely access the vehicle roof while installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module. WARNING To prevent accidental death or injury from being run over by the vehicle, never leave the vehicle's operator chair with the GPS system engaged. iv GPS AutoSteer System

5 WARNING To understand the potential hazards associated with the operation of AutoSteer equipment read the provided documentation before installing the AutoSteer system on a vehicle. WARNING High-Pressure Fluid Hazard Read this manual before installation. Wear hand and eye protection while performing hydraulic system maintenance. Relieve hydraulic system pressure before servicing the hydraulic system. WARNING To prevent the accidental engagement of AutoSteer system and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads, shut down the AutoSteer system (exit the program). Never drive on roads or in public areas with the AutoSteer system turned on. WARNING Do not stand close to the wheels and do not move the machine while you are adjusting the Relief Valve. Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake before standing under or next to the machine. Hardware Installation Manual v

6 Caution Alerts The AutoSteer system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following safety requirements: CAUTION The Roof Module must be removed when transporting or driving the vehicle at speeds above 30 mph (50 km/h). The Roof Module can possibly detach due to wind loads at higher speeds. CAUTION The AutoSteer system does not detect obstacles in the vehicle s path. The operator must observe the path being driven in order to avoid obstacles. CAUTION When engaged, the AutoSteer controls only the steering of the vehicle. The operator must control the speed of the vehicle. CAUTION The AutoSteer must be powered OFF when installing or removing the Roof Module. vi GPS AutoSteer System

7 CAUTION The Roof Module must always be firmly secured to the Roof Rail using the provided hardware whenever the vehicle is in operation to prevent the Roof Module from releasing from its bracket and falling. CAUTION The AutoSteer system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the Roof Module. CAUTION To prevent eye injury, wear eye protection when drilling, tapping or using power tools on the vehicle or other hardware. Vehicle Requirements The vehicle steering and hydraulic systems must be in good working order before installing the AutoSteer system. Check for loose or worn parts. Before installing the AutoSteer system drive the vehicle and confirm that it steers straight and the wheels can be turned from lock to lock. Check the steering system hydraulic hoses and connections to ensure there are no oil leaks. The vehicle electrical system and battery must be in good working order. The vehicle should be fully cleaned before installing the AutoSteer system. A clean vehicle improves overall installation and cable routing and will also reduce the chance for oil contamination when the hydraulic connections are opened. It is important to clean the area around under the cab. Hardware Installation Manual vii

11 1 Installation Overview This Installation Overview chapter contains part numbers, kit overview diagram, cabling diagram and the installation procedure for the Case Combine AutoSteer Kit. Vehicle Inspection Installation Procedure Outline Kit Overview Assemblies Bracket Kit Components Common Kit Components Cable Diagram This installation guide describes the AutoSteer system installation on several models of combines shown on the front cover. The AutoSteer installation kit PN: is used on these vehicle series. Note: If you are installing an electric steering wheel actuator such as OnTrac II, skip the SA Module, AutoSteer Valve connection and System Cable connection installation provided in this manual. Refer to your electric steering product manual for additional instructions. Vehicle Inspection The vehicle s steering system must be in good working condition prior to the installation of the AutoSteer system. Verify the existing steering system is operating correctly by performing the tests listed below: Note: The steering system test requires a relatively large area. Ensure you have enough room to perform the test before beginning. 1. Drive the vehicle in a low gear and slowly turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. The vehicle should steer to the left at a steadily increasing rate until it is making a sharp left turn. 2. Drive the vehicle in a low gear and slowly turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. The vehicle should steer to the right at a steadily increasing rate until it is making a sharp right turn. 12 Vehicle Inspection Note: The change in steering speed should mirror the speed and angle when turning left or right. 3. On flat terrain, drive the vehicle in a straight line in a low gear and release the steering wheel. The vehicle should continue to drive fairly straight without pulling hard left or right. 4. Ask the vehicle driver or owner if they have experienced any vehicle steering problems. The operator should report no steering problems. If the vehicle passes the four tests, proceed with the AutoSteer system installation. If the vehicle fails one or more of the tests, the steering system must be evaluated by a dealer and repaired if necessary. Possible causes of steering problems: Worn joints in steering cylinders and tie rods Hydraulic problem 2 GPS AutoSteer System

13 Installation Procedure Outline Installation Procedure Outline 1. Verify shipped components. Note: Step 2, Step 3, Step 4, Step 5 and Step 9 are skipped if installing an electric steering actuator. 2. Install the Steering Valve. 3. Install the AutoSteer Hydraulic system. 4. Install the Wheel Angle Sensor if necessary. Note: The Wheel Angle Sensor is optional and most installations do not require a Wheel Angle Sensor. 5. Install the SA Module. 6. Install the Roof Rail. 7. Install the Roof Module. 8. Install the Display using a RAM Mount Ball. 9. Install the SA Module Harness. Note: The Cable Diagram on page 9 shows the AutoSteer system electrical connections. 10. Install the Main Cable Harness. 11. Connect the Main Cable Harness to the Display Harness 12. Ensure all connectors are properly coupled. 13. Power ON the AutoSteer system. 14. Adjust the Relief Valve. 15. Calibrate the vehicle. 16. Tune the vehicle. 17. 21 2 Steering Valve Installation This Steering Valve Installation chapter contains the following sections: Steering Valve Installation Procedure Overview Steering Valve Configuration Mounting the Steering Valve Hydraulic Hose and Fitting Installation Steering Valve Installation Procedure Overview Note: You can use a fiberglass cable puller to make it easier to pull the hydraulic hoses and electrical cables through and around the vehicle. 1. Ensure the valve plug and orifice configuration is correct before installing the AutoSteer valve. Note: See the Steering Valve Configuration section for valve plug and orifice configuration information. 2. Install the AutoSteer valve bracket and valve. 3. Connect the hoses between the valve and the vehicle steering system. 4. Check for oil leaks. 5. Adjust the AutoSteer Pressure Relief Valve. 6. Perform a functional test to confirm correct valve operation. WARNING High-Pressure Fluid Hazard Read this manual before installation. 23 Steering Valve Configuration Note: The ports shown in Figure 2-2 are upside-down relative to the ports shown in Figure 2-1. Table 2-1 shows the Steering Valve port function and the corresponding hydraulic fitting size. There are no required plug or orifice changes if the Steering Valve used in this installation is factory new. Skip this procedure if your Steering valve is factory new. However, if you are installing a Steering Valve which had previously been installed on another vehicle, you must verify the plug and orifice configuration is identical to the configuration specified in Table 2-2. If you install the Steering Valve with incorrect plug and orifice configuration you can permanently damage the pump and have hydraulic performance issues. When required, use the procedure shown below. The location of the three internal plugs and orifices are identified by stamped numbers on the manifold. The vehicles supported in this manual use a closed center Load Sense Orbitrol plug and orifice configuration. Note: When required, the internal plugs and orifices are accessed by first removing the larger external plug. Note: The configuration summary provided in Table 2-2 is used exclusively for troubleshooting purposes and to determine if a valve transferred from another vehicle may have been configured differently. 24 Mounting the Steering Valve 2. This concludes the valve configuration. The valve is now ready for vehicle installation. Mounting the Steering Valve 1. Identify the steering valve installation location. See Figure 2-3. Figure 2-3 Steering Valve Mounting Location Mounting Location 2. 25 Mounting the Steering Valve 3. Insert two M8 x 20 bolts into the elongated bracket holes. 4. Place the kit supplied flat washers behind the bolt heads. See Figure 2-5. Figure 2-5 Mounting Bolts M8 x 20 Bolt Hardware Installation Manual 15

26 Mounting the Steering Valve 5. Place the S bracket over the bolts. Note: The bracket only fits the mounting bolts using the elongated holes. 6. Place the kit supplied large M8 flat washers and nuts on the bolts. 7. Tighten the bolts using a 13mm socket, ratchet and 13mm wrench. 8. Figure 2-6 shows the steering valve bracket mounted. 27 Mounting the Steering Valve 9. Mount the steering valve to S bracket using the four kit supplied bolts. 10. Tighten the steering valve mounting bolts using a 1/2" wrench. See Figure 2-7. 30 Tank/Return Hose Connection Tank/Return Hose Connection 1. The Tank/Return line is connected into the Orbitrol Tank line using a Tee adapter. See Figure Note: Oil will rush out fairly quickly when the Tank line is opened. You may want to consider draining the reservoir before opening the fitting. Note: The Tee adapter is connected directly to the Orbitrol and is tightened using 15/16 wrench. 31 Tank/Return Hose Connection Pressure Hose Connection 1. Assemble the inline pressure flow switch as shown in Figure Note: Ensure the flow switch direction is heading away from the male fitting. See Figure Tighten the fittings using a 3/4 wrench, 7/8 wrench and a bench vise. 32 Tank/Return Hose Connection 3. Connect the inline pressure flow switch to the pressure port on the orbitrol using a 13/16 wrench. Connect the run Tee to the inline pressure flow switch using a 15/16 wrench. See Figure Connect the reducer adapter to the run Tee using a 15/16 wrench. 33 Load Sense Hose Connection 6. Connect the AutoSteer Pressure hose to the run Tee side connection. See Figure Reconnect the combine pressure line to the run Tee using a 13/16 wrench. See Figure Figure 2-16 Pressure Port Connection AutoSteer Pressure Hose Combine Pressure Hose 8. Tighten all the Pressure Port hydraulic hose fittings. Load Sense Hose Connection 1. Disconnect the combine Load Sense Orbitrol hose. See Figure Connect the Steering Valve Load Sense Out hose to the disconnected combine Load Sense Orbitrol hose using a 11/16 and 5/8 wrench. 3. 34 Steering Line Hose Connections Steering Line Hose Connections 1. Locate the steering line Right and Left connection points. See Figure Note: The steering lines are connected to the existing steering lines using run Tee adapters using 7/8 and 15/16 wrenches. 2. Disconnect the combine Left steering hose from the steel hydraulic line. See Figure Connect the Run Tee to the combine Left steering steel hydraulic line. See Figure Connect the combine Left steering hose to the Run Tee end port. See Figure Connect the AutoSteer Left steering hose to the Run Tee side port. See Figure Disconnect the combine Right steering hose from the steel hydraulic line. See Figure Connect the Run Tee to the combine Right steering steel hydraulic line. See Figure Connect the combine Right steering hose to the Run Tee end port. See Figure Connect the AutoSteer Right steering hose to the Run Tee side port. 35 Steering Line Hose Connections 10. Route hoses neatly to the Steering Valve using cable ties. Note: Ensure the hoses are in a protected position avoiding sharp surfaces. 11. Remove the four cover screws and the valve cover using a 3/16 allen wrench. See Figure Figure 2-19 Removing Steering Valve Cover Four Screws Hardware Installation Manual 25

36 Steering Line Hose Connections 12. Connect the LS OUT hose to the Steering Valve LS OUT port. See Figure Connect the LS Orbitrol hose to the Steering Valve LS ORBITROL port. See Figure Connect the TANK hose to the Steering Valve TANK port. See Figure Connect the PRESSURE hose to the Steering Valve PRESS port. See Figure Connect the LEFT STEER hose to the Steering Valve LEFT port. See Figure Connect the RIGHT STEER hose to the Steering Valve RIGHT port. 37 Steering Line Hose Connections 18. Tighten all the hydraulic hose end fittings. See Step Figure 2-21 Tighten Hose End Fittings 19. Install the threaded Pressure Transducer into the Steering Valve TRANS port. 20. Tighten the Pressure Transducer using a 3/4 inch wrench. 21. Verify all hose end connections are connected to the correct ports before starting the engine. 22. Turn on the engine momentarily (3-4 seconds) then turn the engine off. 23. Check for oil leaks. 24. Turn the engine on long enough to enable you to turn the steering wheel one turn right and one turn left. 25. Turn the engine off. 26. Check for oil leaks. Hardware Installation Manual 27

See Figure Figure 2-22 Complete Steering Valve Note: When the AutoSteer installation is complete, the Steering Valve Relief Valve must be adjusted. 41 Mounting Wheel Angle Sensor Hardware 2. Find the Wheel Angle Sensor rear axle left side mounting location. 3. Secure the Wheel Angle Sensor bracket to the Final Drive support using the M24 x 50 bolts, M24 spring washers and three spacer plates as shown in Figure 3-2. 42 Mounting Wheel Angle Sensor Hardware 4. Tighten the bolts using a 36mm wrench. See Figure 3-3 Figure 3-3 Tightening the Bracket Bolts 5. The Wheel Angle Sensor Bracket is now mounted. Note: In this position the vehicle would travel straight ahead when moving. 6. Temporarily attach the linkage rods. Note: Never attach the linkage rods to Wheel Angle Sensor rod and turn the steering system manually or automatically until the fit has been verified. The linkage rods must remain apart while the steering system is turned to the maximum right and left positions and then temporarily attached at these positions. Failure to do this may cause the Wheel Angle Sensor or vehicle to become damaged. Note: After the linkage rods are assembled in the following steps, they should move freely without touching any other parts and without overextending. Make any necessary adjustments to the linkage rods if there is an interference problem. WARNING Always shut down the vehicle when working around the steering axle and checking and adjusting the Wheel Angle Sensor rod lengths. This installation requires the connector mounting direction as shown in Figure This connector orientation enables the Wheel Angle Sensor protective cover to be mounted later. The reading should also never go below 1.6 kilohms or higher than 6.6 kilohms as this is reaching the limits of the potentiometer and could damage the sensor. 17. 83 5 Roof Module Installation This Roof Module Installation chapter contains information in the following sections: Safety Notes Roof Rail Installation Roof Module Installation Safety Notes The AutoSteer system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the Roof Module. The Roof Module must always be firmly secured to the Roof Rail using the hardware whenever the vehicle is in operation to prevent the Roof Module from releasing from its bracket and falling. The Roof Module must be removed when transporting the vehicle at speeds above 30 mph (50 kmph). Ensure you are in a stable position on the combine platform when removing the Roof Module, so that you do not fall or drop the Roof Module. WARNING To prevent injury from falling, ensure you are in a stable position on the vehicle when installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module. If the vehicle does not provide a safe platform, use a ladder to safely access the vehicle roof while installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module. Hardware Installation Manual 73

The determining factor is the presence of an M10 threaded hole on the cab door frame. If the threaded hole is present you can use the three hole procedure. 112 Display Display 1. Attach the Main Cable Harness to your Display harness. Note: Refer to your Display Owners manual for details on connecting the Display harness. Power Supply Connection The following sub-sections describe basic instructions for connecting your Display and the AutoSteer system to available vehicle power sources: 12V Cab Power Outlet Battery Power Connection Note: Refer to your Display user manual for electrical connection information before attempting to connect the AutoSteer system to vehicle power. If your Display manual requires a cab power connection see the 12V Cab Power Outlet section, if your Display manual requires a direct battery connection see the Battery Power Connection section. There are two issues that must be addressed when connecting to 12V vehicle power: Display Connection AutoSteer System Connection The Display must be connected to 12V vehicle power according to the wiring diagram provided with your Display. The AutoSteer system Main Cable Harness must be connected to a 3-pin 12V power connector. Your Display user manual provides a wiring diagram for connecting the AutoSteer system to 12V Power. Your Display user manual may specify using a cab 12V power outlet or may require a direct connection to the vehicle battery. Your Display wiring diagram specifies the recommended vehicle 12V power source. Whether your Display harness connects to the vehicle battery or to the 12V power outlet inside the cab, it is shipped with the appropriate harness for your installation. 102 GPS AutoSteer System

113 12V Cab Power Outlet 12V Cab Power Outlet 1. This combine does not provide a cab 12V power outlet. Note: Since there is no 3-pin connector in the cab, you need to provide a cab power outlet. Connect the provided power adapter cable to a vehicle power source capable of providing 12V at 15A maximum. See the power cable adapter as shown in Figure 7-24 and Table 7-2 for connection details. 2. Connect the Red (+) and Black (-) power cable adapter wires to 12 volt power and ground on the vehicle protected by a 15 amp fuse. Note: The white (switched power) wire does not need to be connected. Note: Table 7-2 shows the Power Cable Adapter functions. 117 8 Post-Installation Procedures and Information This Post-Installation Procedures and Information chapter contains information on required procedures and processes to perform after the installation process is complete. The information for this chapter is contained in the following sections: Relief Valve Adjustment Verify the Vehicle is Ready for AutoSteer Create New Vehicle Calibration and Tuning Notes Relief Valve Adjustment The steering valve has a built-in Load Sense Relief Valve that limits the maximum pump pressure when using the AutoSteer system. The Pressure Relief Valve must be adjusted after the entire AutoSteer system has been installed and the system has been checked for hydraulic leaks. The Display, Roof Module, and all harnesses must be connected prior to performing this procedure. WARNING High-Pressure Fluid Hazard Read this manual before installation. Wear hand and eye protection while performing hydraulic system maintenance. Relieve hydraulic system pressure before servicing the hydraulic system. WARNING Do not stand close to the wheels and do not move the machine while you are adjusting the Relief Valve. Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake before standing under or next to the machine. Hardware Installation Manual 107

118 Relief Valve Adjustment Note: The steering valve in Figure 8-1 is shown on a bench without the hydraulic hoses connected for ease of viewing the adjustment process. When you adjust the relief valve, the adjustment is performed with the valve mounted on the vehicle and the hydraulic hoses connected. Figure 8-1 Steering Valve Relief Valve Adjustment Pressure Gauge Test Port Pressure Relief Valve Note: Turn off the engine before connecting a pressure gauge. 1. Remove the Relief Valve cover by removing the four screws with a 3/16 Allen wrench. 2. Install a 5000 psi pressure gauge on the Steering Valve diagnostics port labeled as GP. Use a short extension hose on the pressure gauge if necessary for easier reading. 3. Clear any bystanders from around the vehicle to prevent anyone getting injured when the steering wheels are moved in the following steps. 4. Put transmission into neutral or park position and turn on the hand brake. 5. Start the engine and leave it at low idle. 6. Immediately check for oil leaks on all hose connections that were opened. 7. Turn the steering wheel full right and then full left and check for correct manual steering response. Immediately check for oil leaks on all hose connections that were opened. Air in the hoses may cause a slight steering delay when the system is first powered up. 8. Observe the standby pump pressure shown on the pressure gauge. The standby pressure should be around 200 PSI (14 Bar) to 500 PSI (24 Bar). See Figure GPS AutoSteer System

119 Relief Valve Adjustment Note: If standby pump pressure is zero, less than 100psi, or very high, such as 3000psi, you might have a plumbing error. Figure 8-2 Observe Pump Pressure 9. Clear any bystanders from around the vehicle because you will be moving the wheels in the next step. 10. Power up the AutoSteer Display. 11. Follow the instructions in the Display user manual to navigate to the Vehicle window from the AutoSteer Setup screen. Select Steering Components, and then select Hydraulic Valve. If the safety screen requirements have been met, press the Continue button. Note: The active vehicle must be a "standard hydraulic" type in order to successfully complete Step 11. The default vehicle on a new system works. However, if the system has been moved from another vehicle a new vehicle profile may need to be created and selected before starting Step Press the Steer Right button to command the wheels to turn to the right. Allow the steering axle to reach the right stop and hold it there. 13. The maximum pump pressure allowed by the AutoSteer valve will be displayed on the pressure gauge. 120 Relief Valve Adjustment 14. Stop the steer right command, straighten out the wheels, set the engine to low idle and ensure the vehicle transmission is in Park. Note: Do not adjust the Pressure Relief Valve with the system commanding a vehicle turn. During a commanded turn the Steering Valve and hoses are under maximum pressure creating a high pressure leak or explosion hazard. Note: The steering valve in Figure 8-3 is shown on a bench without the hydraulic hoses connected for ease of viewing the adjustment process. When you adjust the relief valve, the adjustment is performed with the valve mounted on the vehicle and the hydraulic hoses connected. 15. Turn off the engine after Step 14. so the Relief Valve is not being adjusted with the engine running. Note: The AutoSteer Display may be reset due to low voltage each time the engine is started.
