Actutor hs reversible synchronous motor, which opertes t low voltge of 24 V AC. 4 to 20 ma DC input control signl provides proportionl control in combintion with single loop controller (e.g., Model SDC35/SDC36). Fetures Applicble to high differentil pressure pplictions: Wter flow is controlled inside the vlve to prevent over pressure drop, leding to cvittion erosion resistnce. (See Fig. 1.) Compct nd lightweight: Rotry motor ctulizes smll body nd light weight. Vlve nd ctutor integrted in single unit: Pre-ssembled body requires no djustment. All wiring must comply with pplicble codes nd ordinnces. Provide circuit breker/fuse protection when powering this product. Provide circuit protector (e.g., fuse, circuit breker) for the control pnel to ensure your sfety. 2

3 S U A CAUTION Use full fce gskets for flt fce flnges to prevent the product dmge or fluid lekge. Set the selector switches using pen nib or finger. Do not use tool such s screwdriver. Such tool might dmge the selector switches or the PCB. For instlltion, do not mount the vlve in n improper position or overtighten the bolts on the flnge. Doing so might dmge the product. After instlltion, mke sure no fluid leks from the vlve-pipe connections. Incorrect instlltion might cuse fluid lekge. Instll the product so tht no foreign objects remins inside the pipes. Be sure to provide striner on the inflow side of the piping. Flush the piping to remove the foreign objects fter instlltion. Foreign objects inside the piping might dmge the product. Do not llow the fluid to freeze. Doing so might dmge the vlve body nd cuse fluid lekge. Do not put lod or weight on the ctutor of the product. Doing so might dmge the product. Do not instll the product nerby stem coil, pressurized hot-wter coil, or ny high het source. High temperture rdition might cuse mlfunction of its ctutor. Do not use the product in n tmosphere corrosive to the ctutor, vlve, nd their components. Doing so might dmge the product. Do not crelessly touch this product when being used to control hot wter. The product temperture is hot, nd you might get burned. Use crimp terminls with insultion for connections to the product terminls. Filure to do so might cuse short circuit leding to fire or device filure. Firmly tighten the terminl screws. Insufficient tightening of the terminl screws might cuse fire or overheting. Do not touch the moving prts of the product. Doing so might cuse injury. (2/2) Do not disssemble the product. Doing so might cuse device filure. Dispose of this product s industril wste in ccordnce with your locl regultions. Do not reuse ll or prt of the product. During engineering work, do not touch the uninstructed re other thn the setting switches. Doing so, you might be burned. Temperture of some prts of the ctutor becomes high. IMPORTANT: In cse n Azbil Corportion product fils, you re required to provide your Equipment with sfety design such s fool-proof design* 1, nd fil-sfe design* 2 (nti-flme propgtion design, etc.), whereby preventing ny occurrence of physicl injuries, fires, significnt dmge, nd so forth. Furthermore, fult voidnce* 3, fult tolernce* 4, or the like should be incorported so tht the sid Equipment cn stisfy the level of relibility nd sfety required for your use. *1. IMPORTANT: When instlling the product with flnge gsket, do not llow the gsket going inside the pipe. The service life of ACTIVAL operted with smll ded bnd cn be shortened since the ACTIVAL opertes more frequently with smll ded bnd thn with norml ded bnd. To operte the product with smll ded bnd, provide shielded cble for input/output signl lines nd power line. Unshielded cble might cuse error due to noise. 3

9 Recommended Criteri to Prevent Cvittion Erosion Cvittion erosion is likely to occur in the cse tht the pressure rtio XF clculted by the following formul overreches the criterion vlue. X F = P 1 - P 2 P 1 - Pv Sturted vpor pressure of fluid vries depending on the fluid temperture. Alwys keep the pressure rtio X F < 0.7 (criterion vlue). X F : Pressure rtio P 1 : Absolute pressure of vlve inlet [psig (bs)] P 2 : Absolute pressure of vlve outlet [psig (bs)] Pv: Sturted vpor pressure of fluid* [psig (bs)] If the pressure rtio does not meet this criterion, cvittion erosion my occur. This vlue is thus necessry to prevent cvittion erosion. Note tht cvittion itself my be generted even if the pressure rtio is kept below 0.7. IIn ddition to the pressure rtio, the flow velocity t the vlve in 100 % position is nother criterion for cvittion erosion. 11 Instlltion Precutions for instlltion A WARNING Before wiring, mintennce or setting the selector switches, be sure to turn off the power to the product (including the optionl devices). Filure to do so might cuse electric shock or device filure. A CAUTION After instlltion, mke sure no fluid leks from the vlve-pipe connections. Incorrect instlltion might cuse fluid lekge. For instlltion, do not mount the vlve in n improper position or overtighten the bolts on the flnge. Doing so might dmge the product. Instll the product so tht no foreign objects remins inside the pipes. Be sure to provide striner on the inflow side of the piping. Flush the piping to remove the foreign objects fter instlltion. Foreign objects inside the piping. ACTIVAL Model VY5199J is the vlve nd ctutor integrted into single unit. Do not combine the vlve with ny other ctutor, or do not combine the ctutor with ny other vlve. To remove foreign substnces inside the pipes, instll striner (with 40 or more meshes) on the inflow side of ech vlve. In cse tht the striners cnnot be instlled on the inflow side of ech vlve, instll it on the pipe diverting sections (sections diverting from min piping system to sub piping system). Instll the vlve so tht the flow direction of process fluid grees with the rrow indicted on the vlve body. After instlltion, remove buffer mteril wrpped round the vlve (4'' to 6'' model). Instlltion loction A CAUTION Do not instll the product nerby stem coil, pressurized hot-wter coil, or ny high het source. High temperture rdition might cuse mlfunction of its ctutor. IMPORTANT: The covers might be corroded by some chemicl nd orgnic solvent/vpor. Do not clen the ACTIVAL using such substnces, or do not expose the ACTIVAL to such substnces. Although the ACTIVAL cn be used in high humidity environments (mx. 95 % RH), do not immerse the ctutor in wter. Although the ACTIVAL cn lso be used outdoors, be sure not to expose the ACTIVAL to direct sunlight. Instll the ACTIVAL in position llowing esy ccess for mintennce nd inspection. Fig. 2 shows the minimum clernce for mintennce nd inspection. When instlling the ACTIVAL in ceiling spce, provide n ccess hole within the 20" (508 mm) rdius of the ACTIVAL. And, plce drin pn under the vlve. Do not mount the ACTIVAL on pipe where wter hmmer occurs, or where solid objects including slug my ccumulte. To set the selector switches fter instlltion, leve enough clernce bove the top cover of the ctutor, s shown in Figs. 2 to 4. Mounting position The ACTIVAL cn be mounted in ny position rnging from upright to sidewys (90 tilted). The ACTIVAL should be instlled with its ctutor verticlly positioned bove the vlve body. 12 Piping Check tht the model number of the product is wht you ordered. The model number is shown on the lbel ttched to the yoke. Instll bypss pipe nd gte vlves on the inflow, outflow, nd bypss sides. Also, instll striner on the inflow side. When instlling the ACTIVAL to pipes, do not llow ny object, such s chips, to get inside pipe or vlve. Vlve cnnot fully closes, or the vlve set my get dmged cusing fluid lekge, due to n object jmmed inside the vlve. When piping, do not pply too much seling mteril, such s solidifying liquid nd tpe, to the pipe connection sections so tht these mterils flow into the vlve. Vlve cnnot fully closes, or the vlve set my get dmged cusing fluid lekge, due to the seling mteril jmmed inside the vlve. Before ctivting the ACTIVAL, fully open (in 100 % position) the vlve nd flush the pipes t the mximum flow rte to remove ll the foreign substnces. (Fctory preset position: 100 %) Het insultion Do not pply het insultion to the ctutor or to the yoke, s shows in Fig. 3. If the yoke nd the ctutor re covered with insultion mteril, the pointer cnnot be checked nd my be distorted. Fctory preset position The ctutor shft is positioned t 100 % (in fully open position) for shipment. The shft is thus completely turned counterclockwise, nd the pointer points t 100. (See Fig. 6.) Pointer Figure 6. Preset pointer position for shipment Mnully opening/closing the ACTIVAL IMPORTANT: Mnully opening/closing the ACTIVAL with the power (24 V AC) pplied might dmge the ctutor. To mnully open/close the ACTIVAL, do not turn the joint beyond the fully open/closed mrk. To mnully open/close the ACTIVAL, slowly turn the joint. If shock is sent to the ctutor, the ctutor might get dmged. Disconnect the power from the ACTIVAL before mnully operting the ACTIVAL. As shown in Fig. 7, from the front of the ACTIVAL, hold the joint using tool such s wrench, nd turn the joint slowly towrd the set position. Joint Hold the joint using wrench nd turn slowly. 13 Auxiliry switch (optionl) IMPORTANT: The uxiliry switch is instlled on site. Refer to the instructions supplied with the uxiliry switch for instlltion. Do not open the top cover except when djusting the uxiliry switch. Close the top cover instntly fter djusting the uxiliry switch. Do not put ny lod on the top cover. Procedure to chnge the ctutor mounting position IMPORTANT: Do not chnge the combintion of the vlve, yoke, nd ctutor. Set the ACTIVAL (ctutor nd vlve) in 100 % position before chnging the mounting position. If the vlve in 0 % position is ssembled with the ctutor in 100 % position, the ctutor put torque on the closed vlve, nd the ger of the ctutor get dmged. 1) Remove the screws connecting the ctutor nd the yoke. Lift the ctutor nd detch it from the yoke. Mke sure tht the groove on the top of the vlve stem is prllel to the pipes (indicting the vlve in 100 % position). <Step 1 in Fig. 8> 2) Remove the screws connecting the yoke nd the vlve. <Step 2 in Fig. 8> 3) Chnge the fcing direction of the yoke. The yoke nd ctutor cn be horizontlly rotted every 90 (0 /90 /180 /270 from the fctory preset position) to mount onto the vlve. 4) A therml insultion sheet is inserted between the yoke nd the vlve. When chnging the mounting positions, reinsert the sheet nd then fit the yoke into the new mounting position. 5) Before fixing the yoke to the vlve with the screws, check tht the ctutor engges correctly with the vlve stem (t the new mounting position). Check tht the pointer of the ctutor indictes 100 % position s well. Then, fix the yoke to the vlve. <Step 3 in Fig. 8> 6) Mount the ctutor. 14 Wiring A WARNING Before wiring, mintennce or setting the selector switches, be sure to turn off the power to the product (including the optionl devices). Filure to do so might cuse electric shock or device filure. Detch the cover only when wiring, setting the product or mintennce nd rettch the cover fter wiring, setting the product or mintennce. Filure to do so might cuse electric shock. A CAUTION Instlltion nd wiring must be performed by qulified personnel in ccordnce with ll pplicble sfety stndrds. IMPORTANT: The ACTIVAL is designed for 24 V AC power supply voltge. Do not pply ny other power voltge (e.g., 120 V AC, 240 V AC) to the ACTIVAL. Mke sure the polrity of the power supply nd 4 to 20 ma DC feedbck output referring to the wiring digrms. Incorrect wiring might result in PCB (print circuit bord) burnout. To prevent dmge, cover the terminls except when connecting/disconnecting wires. Do not leve ny refuse including metl chips fter cutting knockout hole nd fter connecting the wires inside the ctutor. Do not connect 24 V AC power to the terminls 4 to 7. To keep NEMA 4X nd IP54 protection Use wter-proof connector for the ACTIVAL in high-humidity environment or outdoor loction. Be sure to completely close the terminl cover nd the top cover. Wterproof the wiring port. - For cble connection, use wter-proof connector. (Sel connector Prt No is recommended.) - For conduit connection, use wter-proof plic tube or the like. Wiring procedure 1) To led the wires into the terminls, cut out knockout hole for wiring port. Two knockout holes re provided on the bilterl sides of the ctutor terminls.
