3 Intrductin Althugh, in the United States, Hybrid Electric cars accunt fr a fractin f 2012 aut sales, nly 3.3 percent, analyst firm Mintel estimated that sales f hybrid, plug in hybrid and electric cars in the US will exceed 535,000 units in 2013, a sizable increase n the 440,000 sld last year. Sales f hybrids and electric cars rse 73 per cent in 2012, making it the fastest grwing segment in the US aut market. car sales were up in 2012 and shuld be even mre up in 2013/ Tp-selling Hybrid-electric Vehicles by Mdel in the United States Image-Marird (Mari Rbert Durán Ortiz) As reprted by the Internatinal Herald Tribune, a separate market analysis by Pike Research estimates that there will be annual glbal sales f 3.8 millin electric r plug in hybrid cars by It als estimates that sales f plug in cars will grw by 40 percent annually. During that same perid, general car sales will grw by 2 percent. Industry grwth is always celebrated; hwever, change brings challenges. SAE is determined t meet thse challenges with the develpment and implementatin f the Certified Vehicle Electrificatin Prfessinal (CVEP) Examinatin. CVE Prfessinal (CVEP): This certificatin is designed fr the individual wh will be wrking in the electrified vehicle industry as a member f a prduct realizatin multidisciplinary team, thse respnsible fr prduct design, manufacturing prcess, design, and manufacturing implementatin. Benefits f Certificatin Certificatin benefits bth the individual and the industry as a whle. Certificatin ensures a certain level f prfessinal standards and eligibility has been attained. Credentialing benefits the prfessin by cdifying it and creating standards; it benefits the individual by ffering a means t prve value and identify a path fr cntinued prfessinal develpment; and it prvides emplyers a reference pint frm which they can evaluate jb candidates. 5 CVEP Examinatin Structure Essential Safety Examinatin The examinee will first face the 10 essential safety questins chsen by their SME peers as life and death safety issues. This examinatin must be passed with a 100% scre. In an effrt t be as fair as pssible, the participant may nt mve frm ne questin t anther until he has selected the crrect answer. This is a timed examinatin f 30 minutes. Secnd, the examinee will face the Cre CVEP examinatin which is given in fur sets f questins cvering tw types f examinatins: Knwledge-based Examinatin Tw sets f knwledge questins are given fr a ttal f 1.5 Hurs. Each set is 45 minutes lng with a break between sets. The questins in the knwledge based exam nly have ne crrect answer. The knwledge based tier is built upn the axim that the Team Members, including Engineers, must have a cmplete grasp f all f the infrmatin necessary t implement the design and be able t evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness f an Electric Vehicle as led in this prcess by an Engineer/Scientist. Applicatins-based Examinatin Tw sets f applicatin questins are given fr a ttal f 2.5 Hurs. Each set is 75 minutes lng with a break between sets. The questins in this set have ptentially mre than ne crrect answer. Yu receive pints fr each crrect answer yu select and yu lse pints fr each incrrect answer yu select. Nt selecting an answer des nt lse nr des it gain pints; hwever, if yu d nt select enugh f the crrect answers in these sets f questins yu might nt achieve the threshld scre fr the certificatin. The applicatins based tier is t check the applicant s ability t apply the knwledge and skills needed fr the CVEP level.
