1 120 Mdel: TM-3 INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU CANNOT READ OR UNDERSTAND THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL OR OPERATE INTRODUCTION This Wired Wall Timer system was develped t prvide safe, reliable, and user-friendly remte cntrl system fr gas heating appliances. The timer is intended as a replacement fr manual ON/ switches that currently perate millivlt and electrnic ignitin appliances. WALL TIMER The wall timer perates n (2) 3V buttn cell batteries (included). Befre using the wall timer, install the tw (2) 3V buttn cell batteries. Fllw instructins belw. Indicatr Light 30 MIN 60 MIN 120 MIN The wall timer has 30 MIN, 60 MIN, 120 MIN, and buttns. 30 MIN: Appliance will burn fr 30 minutes then turn ff autmatically 60 MIN: Appliance will burn fr 60 minutes then turn ff autmatically 120 MIN: Appliance will burn fr 120 minutes then turn ff autmatically : Will manually turn appliance burner ff. When any f the buttns n the wall timer is pressed, an indicatr light n the wall timer s face illuminates t verify that a signal has been sent. If the signal light des nt illuminate, r becmes dim, check/replace the batteries. TO INSTALL BATTERIES 4. Remve face frm backing plate by inserting a small screwdriver int the small slt at the tp r bttm f the faceplate as shwn belw then snap ff. Lcate the (2) hlders fr the 3V buttn cell batteries. Place the buttn cell batteries int the battery hlders, inserting the tp edge f the battery underneath the metal clips, and snap int place. (Make sure that the batteries are installed with the (+) plus side as shwn t the right. After the batteries are installed replace the faceplate n the base. TO REMOVE THE BATTERIES Remve face frm backing plate by inserting a small screwdriver int the small slt n the side at the tp r bttm f the faceplate as shwn t the right then snap. Lcate the (2) hlders fr the 3V buttn cell batteries. Insert a small screwdriver int the slt at the buttn cell battery and pp the battery ut (Slts shwn in picture abve). 2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WARNING This remte cntrl system must be installed exactly as utlined in these instructins. Read all instructins cmpletely befre attempting installatin. Fllw instructins carefully during installatin. Any mdificatins f this remte cntrl r any f its cmpnents will vid the warranty and may pse a fire hazard. D nt cnnect any gas valve r electrnic mdule directly t VAC pwer. Cnsult gas appliance manufacturer s instructins and wiring schematics fr prper placement f all wires. All electrnic mdules are t be wired t manufacturer s specificatins. The fllwing wiring diagrams are fr illustratin purpse nly. Fllw instructins frm manufacturer f gas valve and/r electrnic mdule fr crrect wiring prcedures. Imprper installatin f electric cmpnents can cause damage t electrnic mdule, gas valve and remte receiver. WIRING INSTRUCTIONS A qualified electrician r a gas technician wh is familiar with the gas appliance and gas valves that will be perated by this cntrl shuld install the remte cntrl system. Incrrect wiring cnnectins WILL cause damage t the gas valve r electrnic mdule perating the gas appliance and may als damage the cntrl. Remval f Existing Wall Switch Lcate the manual ON/ wall switch that cntrls the gas appliance. Remve the screws hlding the cver plate ver the existing switch t expse the switch. Remve the screws that secure the existing switch t the junctin bx. Gently pull the existing switch ut f the junctin bx. Discnnect the tw wires frm the existing switch. Cnnecting the TM-3 Wall Switch NOTE: Strip all wires t be cnnected t the wall timer t a length f T much expsed wire can result in a shrt circuit that culd cause the appliance burner t turn ON accidentally. Insert the tw wires riginally cnnected t the manual ON/ switch int the blck terminals n the back f the wall timer. The wires must be inserted frm the bttm f the blck terminal. The rientatin f the wires des nt matter. Tighten the screw n the back f the terminal blck with a small screwdriver t secure the wires in the terminal blck. Gently pull n the wires t ensure they are secure in the terminal blck. Tighten screws t secure wire Insert wires frm bttm SYSTEM CHECK Millivlt Valves Light the gas appliance s pilt flame fllwing the lighting instructins that came with the appliance. Cnfirm that the pilt flame is n; it must be in peratin fr the main gas valve t perate. Press either the 30 MIN, 60 MIN, r 120 MIN buttns. The main gas flame (i.e., the fire) shuld ignite. Press the buttn. The flame shuld extinguish (the pilt flame will remain n). Electrnic Ignitin Systems Press either the 30 MIN, 60 MIN, r 120 MIN buttns. The spark electrde shuld begin sparking t ignite the pilt. After the pilt flame is lit, the main gas valve shuld pen and the main gas flame shuld ignite. Press the buttn. The main gas flame and pilt flame shuld BOTH extinguish. MOUNTING THE WALL TIMER 4. Remve face frm backing plate by insetting a small screwdriver int the small slt at the tp r bttm f the faceplate then snap. Lcate the (2) tw munting slts which align with the munting hles in a standard single-gang junctin bx. Use the (2) tw munting screws (supplied) t munt the base plate t the junctin bx in the wall as shwn. Snap the cver plate in-place ver the face f the wall timer V 3V REV Page 2

3 BATTERY LIFE Life expectancy f the alkaline batteries in the wall timer shuld be at least 12 mnths. Check and replace all batteries annually. When the indicatr light n the face f the wall timer becmes dim r des nt light when a buttn is pressed, r if the wall timer des nt functin at all, the batteries shuld be checked. The Wall Transmitter shuld perate with as little as 4 vlts f battery pwer, measuring each f the 3-vlt buttn cell batteries individually. The length f the wire between the remte receiver and gas valve directly affects the perating perfrmance f the remte system. The lnger the wire, the mre battery pwer is required t deliver signals between the remte receiver and the gas valve. Recmmended length is n lnger than 30 feet. TROUBLE SHOOTING If yu encunter prblems with yur fireplace system, the prblem may be with the fireplace itself r it culd be with the Wall timer. Review the fireplace manufacturer s peratin manual t make sure all cnnectins are prperly made. Then check the peratin f the wall timer in the fllwing manner: Make sure the batteries are crrectly installed. One reversed battery will keep cntrl frm perating prperly. Check if the batteries are fully charged. Replace the batteries if they measure less than 4 vlts (each battery individually). Make sure the wires cnnected t back f the wall timer have nt cme lse and are firmly cnnected. Make sure the wires cnnected t the back f the will timer are nt tuching each ther r anther bare metal surface, this will cause the appliance t turn ON. The wires shuld be stripped t a length f 0.25 t prevent this cnditin. 4 Limited Lifetime Warranty SKYTECH warrants the SKYTECH REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM fr a Limited Lifetime f the riginal wner f this system.
