This gas may easily be ignited by a spark r flame as yu wrk near the battery. T reduce the risk f explsin, discnnect the battery, wrk in a well ventilated area, avid the use f devices that create sparks r use pen flames, and use apprpriate persnal safety equipment and clthing. Display perating endurance btained will vary with installatin lcatin and cnditins, battery cnditin, weather cnditins, and display settings. Depending n the part number supplied (see cver sheet) this kit may include ne 85W, r ne 55W slar panel, 35AH, r 70AH f batteries, battery bx, munting brackets and a charge cntrl device. 2.1 Specificatins Slar Panel: Plycrystalline 55W, 12V, (Pmax 17.4V, 3.15A). Or Plycrystalline 85W, 12V, (Pmax 17.3V, 4.63A). Battery (1 r 2 each): Sealed 12V, 35AH, AGM, 22.5-lbs, 7.68 x 5.12 x 6.10 with buttn cnnectrs. Nn-Spillable DOT apprved. Slar Charger: Mrning Star Sunsaver A rated input (slar panel). Regulatin Vltage 14.1V. Regulatin methd is PWM. Maximum Slar Vltage 25V. Wiring Harness battery cnnectin is fused at 5A fast acting with an ATO 32V fuse. Enclsure: NEMA 3R rating. Fur munting hles and tw 7/8 cnduit hles are prvided. Enclsure is insulated with R3.3 fil faced rigid fam insulatin n all 6 inside surfaces. Battery sits n a plycarbnate shelf. There is rm fr tw batteries. Weight 29lbs (ne battery).

6 S C Slar Kit Installatin Instructins ( A) Nvember 26, Required Maintenance Althugh this system is designed t require little maintenance, the system will perfrm mst efficiently if a small amunt f maintenance is perfrmed. Inspect and clean the slar panel peridically. Check fr lcal vegetatin shading the panel and prune back as needed. When replacing battery be sure t use a sealed battery f the crrect vltage and capacity ratings. 2.3 Battery Life These are suggestins fr btaining the greatest battery lifetime. Never let the battery sit in a discharged state fr mre than a few days. During extended cludy days mnitr the battery level and either recharge as necessary r reduce the pwer cnsumed by the display by limiting its peratin. Try t cnfigure the display in such a way as t ensure that n mre than 50% f the battery charge is remved at any time. Perfrm a maintenance charge n the battery 3 t 4 times each year. 3 Installatin Requirements This sectin describes the cmpnents, tls, and infrmatin yu must have available befre installing the TraffiCalm Slar Kit. 3.1 Equipment Requirements In additin t the Driver Feedback Sign t be installed, yu will need the fllwing suggested items if yu intend t fllw these directins: Ple and fting material Stainless steel banding and banding clips and applicatin tl r adjustable steel banding. Assrted hand tls. Scket set and drive handle Installatin f Slar Panel NOTE It is the installer s respnsibility t ensure that this installatin cmplies with lcal and natinal cdes. Use a ple f prper size with an apprpriate fting fr the sil and lad cnditins. Cnsult with a prfessinal Civil engineer fr prper ple selectin and fting design fr the lcal area. Assemble the slar panel munting bracket using directins supplied with the munting bracket cmpnents. Install the munting bracket nt the ple using the supplied hardware. In nrthern latitudes aim the bracket at true Suth, nt magnetic suth. True Suth is the directin facing the sun parallel t the shrtest shadw f the day cast by the sign ple, which ccurs at Slar Nn. T estimate what time slar nn will ccur in yur area g t the NOAA web site with yur lngitude and latitude. Set the bracket angle using yur current latitude +15 degrees as measured frm hrizntal (flat) t the final psitin. Example: If the latitude is 45-degrees, set the panel angle 60-degrees away frm flat. Yu may be able t get a small amunt f additinal pwer by calculating the set angle using: Latitude * This results in a

Install the slar panel nt the munting bracket. 3.3 Suggested Installatin f Battery Bx Install the supplied munting bracket system t the enclsure using hardware supplied by the factry aligning the bracket t the crrect spacing t match the hles in the back f the battery bx. Use the supplied seal washers (see appendix C), which prevent water entry int the cabinet and the supplied ¼-20 x 5/8 blts t secure the enclsure t the bracket. Lift the plycarbnate flr in the bx tward yu using the flap f fil tape attached t the flr and swing it ut f the bx t get access t the 7/8 hles in the bttm. Install the prvided cnduit and cable grip fitting nt the bttm f the battery bx. Rute the display pwer cable with the barrel cnnectr, and green grund wire thrugh the cnduit. These will attach t the display. Munt the battery bx t the ple and secure using the user supplied suggested banding system r ther methd t secure the prvided bracket t the ple. Rute the slar panel cable int the battery bx thrugh the cable grip fitting. Nte: yu may wish t cver the slar panel during daylight installatin t prevent accidental shrt circuit f energized panel during installatin. Swing the plycarbnate flr back int the bx and let it fall flat while maneuvering the wires frm the panel and t the sign away frm the flr. Install the prvided battery wire stubs with ring terminals nt the battery psts, range t psitive and black t Nte: The slar panel nly prvides pwer when illuminated by the sun. If the panel was cvered during installatin, remve the cver befre perfrming this test. negative (discnnect first frm bx harness using the ¼ quick cnnects). Place the battery with stubs int the bx and cnnect t the bx harness thrugh the quick cnnects matching range t range and black t black. Cnnect the slar panel t the harness using the ¼ quick cnnects t the mating quick cnnects n the harness, matching red t red and black t black. Install the secnd battery if prvided. T avid the pssibility f injury r equipment damage: - a lse battery cnnectin ring lug cnnected t the harness and allwed t tuch the cabinet r ther wiring culd cause a shrt circuit. - D nt cnnect the battery cnnectr stubs t the harness until they are securely cnnected t the battery first. Check the panel peratin and battery charging using a vlt meter. During daylight hurs, if the battery vltage rises abve night levels, then the slar panel and charger are wrking. Mnitr the charge prcess thrugh a full charge. If the charge vltage is excessive, then the charger may have failed and will damage the batteries unless actin is taken t discnnect the slar panel until repairs are made. The charger is temperature cmpensated. It is nrmal fr the charge vltage t be higher when the weather is cld, and lwer when the weather is ht. The nrmal full charge vltage varies -28mV per degree C f deviatin frm 25 C. Fr best results, start with a new fully charged battery. Never mix ld and new batteries. Be sure t grund the slar panel rack, and battery bx prperly accrding t cde. 6

8 S C Slar Kit Installatin Instructins ( A) Nvember 26, 2012 TraffiCalm Systems, a divisin f MOR Manufacturing, prvides the fllwing warranty fr its traffic calming slutins whether sld directly by TraffiCalm r by an authrized TraffiCalm distributin partner. Warranty TraffiCalm Systems warrants the prduct, excluding batteries, will be free f defect in materials and wrkmanship fr a perid f tw (2) years beginning n the day the end user receives the prduct. Warranty is nly valid if the prduct is ineffective fr its intended purpse due t defects in materials r wrkmanship. Warranty is nly valid if the prduct is installed, perated and maintained in accrdance with the manufacturer s instructins and recmmendatins (available upn request). TraffiCalm s sle respnsibility and the purchaser s and user s exclusive remedy shall be that TraffiCalm will furnish replacements fr defective parts. Replacement parts will carry the unexpired warranty f the parts they replace. Claims made under this warranty will be hnred nly if TraffiCalm is ntified f a failure within the warranty perid, reasnable infrmatin requested by TraffiCalm is prvided, and TraffiCalm is permitted t verify the cause f the failure. TraffiCalm assumes n liability fr any incidental r cnsequential damages, in any way related t the prduct regardless f the legal thery n which the claim is based.
