3 Intrductin 1. Applicatins. 200amp lad-break and dead-break dead-frnt elbw terminatins. Three cnfiguratins (standard, extended, and repair length) injectin elbws are available (Table 1). 4 3. Limitatins. Capacitive test pints are available n the extended length and repair length injectin elbws nly. The injectin prt adds 2½ t the back f an elbw and may nt fit in smaller enclsures. Injectin caps are insulated and are nt fully shielded with a semi-cnductive layer. Accessries fr injectin elbws such as injectin caps, permanent caps, and prbes are nt interchangeable between the tw manufacturers (Cper and Elastimld). 4. Required equipment. Injectin elbw. Lug (fr replacement). Injectin cap (fr injectin). Prbe kit (35kV Cper elbws nly). Installing 200A Elbws If yu are installing an injectin elbw n a cable that was nt previusly terminated with an elbw, fllw the instructins supplied with the elbw t trim the insulatin and install the cmpressin cnnectr. If yu are retrfitting an injectin elbw n a cable that was previusly terminated, fllw the steps belw and reference the manufacturer s instructins where directed. Carefully remve and discard the ld prbe and elbw. Clean the cable and remve grease r crrsin inhibitr frm arund the cnductr strands. Measure the cable s insulatin diameter and use the tables at the end f this NRI t determine the crrect part number fr the injectin elbw. Carefully inspect the existing craftwrk including the insulatin shield cutback, the insulatin s surface, cnductr strands, and the cnnectr fr damage. If the craftwrk des nt meet Nvinium standards, take crrective actins. NOTE: All lugs that are nt bi-metal (cpper tp) must be replaced. NRI A Elbws UPR Revised: March 1, 2016 Page 3 f 8

5 Cmpare the existing cable prep dimensins t the instructin sheet that is included with the injectin elbw and make any necessary adjustments. Figure 1: Instructin sheet example. Adjust the insulatin cutback as necessary t expse ¼ t ½ f cnductr strands between the cnnectr and insulatin. The cnductr strands rtate arund at a 15 angle. It is pssible t create a suitable flw path int the cable by pening the cnductr strands. There are tw methds t accmplish this gal: 1. Open the strands by rtating the cnnectr the ppsite directin f the strand lay by 15. Remember, 15 is the strand lay angle. OR 2. Tighten the strands by rtating the cnnectr 15 in the strand lay s directin. Then, rtate the cnnectr back 15 t its riginal psitin. Examine fr any strands that brke during the rtatin steps. 6 1. Install the elbw. Lightly lubricate the surface f the cable s insulatin. D nt apply lubricatin t the inside f the elbw as the grease may accumulate arund the cnductr strands and blck flw. Push the elbw nt the cable. Lightly lubricate the -ring n the prbe and carefully install the prbe. D nt rtate the prbe during insertin until the threads are engaged. Use the trque wrench supplied in the kit r ther apprved tl t tighten. Psitin the hse clamp n the thick prtin f the elbw and tighten until it just starts t defrm the surface f the rubber. D nt remve the yellw warning tags frm the elbw r injectin cap. 2. Operatins and maintenance. Figure 3: Psitin the hse clamp as shwn. The flw test and pressure test shuld nly be perfrmed using the injectin cap that will be used fr injectin in rder t avid cntaminatin between cables. Injectin caps are shipped in sealed plyethylene bags and shuld be pened just prir t installatin. Re-using the injectin cap and tubing is permitted. The mlded rubber shuld display n swelling, blisters r belling, and the black plastic stem shuld be free f scratches. Scratches n the stem can capture dirt and cmprmise its ability t functin as a sealing surface and insulating interface. Lng-term expsure t injectin fluid can cause swelling that may cmprmise the injectin cap. Injectin caps that n lnger lk like new must be discarded. NRI A Elbws UPR Revised: March 1, 2016 Page 5 f 8

7 Fr strage between uses, the injectin cap and tubing shuld be fully drained f fluid, and the uter surface f the tubing and the inner surface f the injectin cap shuld be wiped clean. The tubing shuld be neatly rlled and then stred alng with the injectin cap in a large re-sealable zip-lck bag. Large re-sealable zip-lck bags are available thrugh Supply Chain by part number Prir t use, the injectin cap shuld be examined and cleaned. Figure 4: Re-sealable plastic bag fr string injectin caps. Permanent caps must be stred in a plyethylene bag whenever they are nt installed n an injectin elbw. The re-sealable bags may als be rdered separately by part number. Figure 5: Re-sealable plastic bag fr string permanent caps. Sizing Instructins Injectin elbws are sized accrding t the insulatin diameter f the cable. Elbws can be further specified t match the system such as fr lad-break and dead-break cnfiguratins, single-phase and 3- phase applicatins, 15, 25, 35kV systems, and with r withut capacitive test pints.
