1 PHASE MONITOR RELAYS Prodct Smmary Phase Monitor Relays provide protection against prematre eqipment failre cased by voltage falts on 3 Phase systems. All Macromatic Phase Monitor Relays are designed to be compatible with most Wye or Delta systems with no connection to Netral reqired. Phase Monitor Relays protect against single phasing regardless of any regenerative voltages. The Reference Gide below provides general information on the different versions of Phase Monitor Relays offered by Macromatic (see Prodct Selection on the following pages for frther details): Protection Series Monting Style Phase Loss Phase Reversal Phase Unbalance * In addition to the above approvals, all Plg-in Prodcts are also UL Listed when sed with the appropriate Macromatic socket. Depending on the nit selected, it will protect three phase eqipment against: phase loss - total loss of one or more of the three phases. Also known as "single phasing." Typically cased by a blown fse, broken wire, or worn contact. This condition wold reslt in a motor drawing locked rotor crrent dring start-p. In addition, a three phase motor will contine to rn after losing a phase, reslting in possible motor brn-ot. phase reversal - reversing any two of the three phases will case a three phase motor to rn in the opposite direction. This may case damage to driven machinery or injry to personnel. The condition sally occrs as a reslt of mistakes made dring rotine maintenance or when modifications are made to the circit. phase nbalance - nbalance of a three phase system occrs when single phase loads are connected sch that one or two of the lines (phases) carry more or less of the load. This cold case motors to rn at temperatres above pblished ratings. ndervoltage - when voltage in all three lines of a three phase system drop simltaneosly. overvoltage - when voltage in all three lines of a three phase system increase simltaneosly. However, the motor is nprotected against phase failres between the relay and the motor. Load Side Monitoring With the relay connected directly to the motor, the total feed lines are monitored. This connection shold not be sed with reversing motors. 5

2 PHASE MONITOR RELAYS Phase Loss, Phase Reversal, Phase Unbalance, and Under/Over Voltage PMP Series Plg-in The PMP Series Phase Monitor Relays tilize a microprocessor-based design to provide protection against phase loss, phase reversal, phase nbalance, ndervoltage and overvoltage. The PMPU is a niversal voltage prodct that works on any three-phase system voltage from V (a separate 120V version is available). These devices are designed to be compatible with most Wye or Delta systems with no connection to Netral reqired. PMP Series prodcts protect against nbalanced voltages or single phasing regardless of any regenerative voltages. Universal voltage range of V on PMPU provides the flexibility to cover a variety of applications with one nit Protects against phase loss, phase reversal, phase nbalance, ndervoltage and overvoltage Variety of ser-selectable and adjstable settings for the ltimate in three-phase protection Atomatic & Manal Reset in Same Unit Mlti-Color LED indicates normal condition and provides specific falt indication to simplify trobleshooting Compact plg-in case tilizing indstry-standard 8 pin octal socket 10A SPDT otpt contacts (with appropriate socket) The relay is energized when the phase seqence and all voltages are correct. Any one of five falt conditions will de-energize the relay. As standard, reenergization is atomatic pon correction of the falt condition. Manal reset is available if a momentary N.C. switch is wired to the appropriate terminals. A mlti-color LED indicates normal condition and also provides specific falt indication to simplify trobleshooting. The PMP Series offers a variety of ser-adjstable settings. The percent phase nbalance is adjstable from 2-10%, and also has a Disable setting for those applications where poor voltage conditions cold case nisance tripping. The ndervoltage drop-ot can be set at 80-95% of operating voltage (overvoltage setting is fixed at 110% of nominal). The adjstable time delay drop-ot on ndervoltage ( seconds) eliminates nisance tripping cased by momentary voltage flctations. There is also an adjstable time delay (1-300 seconds) on both power p and restart after a falt has been cleared. Phase Reversal: Unit trips if rotation (seqence) of the three phases is anything other than A-B-C. Undervoltage: Adjstable from 80-95% of nominal voltage. Unit trips when the average of all three lines is less than the adjsted set point for a period longer than the adjstable time delay drop-ot. Overvoltage: Fixed at 110% of nominal voltage. Unit trips when the average of all three lines is greater than the fixed set point for a period longer than the time delay drop-ot. Phase Unbalance: Adjstable from 2-10% nbalance. Unit trips when any one of the three lines deviates from the average of all three lines by more than the adjsted set point. There is also a Disable setting adjstment that will trn off the Phase Unbalance Protection if nisance tripping is a problem.
